The Roberto Di Matteo Thread

It's a beautiful morning (with signs of storm coming in the noon) and I'm thinking that perhaps Bobby is the perfect man for us. Here's a guy who's cool as fuck, works with what he has with little to no fuss. Tell me that's not perfect for Roman and co. because let's face it - the manager is not boss at Chelsea. They don't call the position "head coach" for nothing. Perhaps what we need is a man who's willing to be a part of an equation, not a Ferguson.

It's just a thought though. I'm sure there are things that I miss. Being halfway around the world and all.

Many of us don't know which outcome would benefit the club reasonably.

The main factor and influence RDM had that led to this club's success was his ability to motivate his players and provide the best possibly style of play and strengths our current squad was capable of. He has shown tactical weaknesses that were at some point amateur. The question remains with RDM is if he will be able to provide a successful team to carry on in this club's future, tactically and mentally, which is what Roman is trying to figure out.

Guardiola to Chelsea will be the biggest 'wtf' moment in football history. But the idea that he will flop i believe is false. AVB failed for seeking into this clubs future, failing to deal with the present which led to his downfall. He did not have players of his disposal to create his philosophy. Now, with the signings of Hulk, Hazard, and possibly more, Pep would have ideal players to his disposal and has the experience to get the best out of them, ie messi and xavinietsa. Thought, it could lead to another disaster flop

It's a sticky situation if you think about both solutions logically, hopefully the best outcome will be put.

What about the high line and playing 3 defenders? We can't get away with that.

Pep and Barca dont always play that way. They still used a 4-3-3 against bigger clubs like Madrid. They are a lot of crap teams in Spain so they decided to get extra attacking in those matches where they knew they would have the ball all night. I dont think he would employ that here if he was hired

One of main reasons they went to 3-4-3 was because Spain is a 2 horse race, you almost need 3 pts every night to keep up with Real. Teams were parking the bus on them, especially when Barca was away, just trying to get a 0-0 draw. Barca had to try something to get road wins because they couldnt settle for road draws.

The thing with Roman is he wants succes as much as he wants us to play free-floating football, RDM (delivered) and may deliver even more succes but make us play entertaining football aswell ?Very much doubt it.

I wonder which Barça players would follow Pep. Thiago, Perdo, Busquets and Cuenca would be my guess.

Another great reason why he would be a good apointment. I think some are not giving Pep's intelligence any credit. Surely he knows we can't play 'exactly' like Barcelona do. In fact, just about no-one can. I don't think he will try stuff like turning Mikel into a CB or playing only 3 defenders. He will adapt his game to the EPL and have us playing good attacking sexy football without compromising our defense (surely he also saw AVB fail). I would love him here and that no pressure for 2 years might be exactly what Pep needs to build a dynasty.

To be fair League form was in shambles when he took over anyway and was pretty much a case of hope that other teams drop points.

And considering with Carlo we finished 2nd and he still got sacked..pretty much have to win it every year to be in with a chance!

It's the relative league form that is judged rather than the absolute. We finished with just 9 points less this season (having effectively fielded a 2nd team in the last 2 games) but nowhere near the top 4 nevermind the 2nd place.

I don't understand Roman at all.He sacked 7 or 8 managers because they didn't win the Champions League and now he's planning to part ways with the man who did win it.

He's sticking to the tactics that made Chelsea successful :Goober:

Thats the thing there will always be that pressure. If he doesnt deliver...then most probably offski's for him.The whole thing is just crazy and if it doesnt work out with Pep..bit to late to offer it to RDM!

And happy birthday to him!
