I don't like Crapello as a manager, but as a man of principles I do rate his decision.

Harry Redknapp is an awful manager, it sickens me how deluded this country is, it seems any dick who's English is a brilliant manager. FACT, Brendan Rogers is the best English manager around. I'd even rather have Steve Keane over 'Arry.

England are fuck regardless, but Harry is not the man to lead.. Fuck sake.

I have so much Respect fro Capello now, sticking by his principles and not being taken for a cunt. He's the boss and he should be able to chose who he wants as his captain. He showed a lot of bottle making this decision but he's shown that he's a true man and not one of the FA's sheep. All that the FA and the Media have ever done for the England national team is ruin their chances in every major tournament, and once again, well done to the FA for meddling in team affairs and fucking up our chances in the Summer.

I'm a proud Englishman and i love my country but i would not cry one bit if we lost every match horribly in Euro 2012 now. I also think JT should now turn his back on England along with Lamps and GTFO of there. Retire now lads, seriously. It's a sinking ship and a fucking shambles.

Fair play to Capello. Saw that his role was clearly being marginalized by the FA and rightly stuck to his principles, even in public, on the John Terry matter, innocent until proven guilty. I have all of the respect in the world for Fabio Capello.

The English media wanted Terry stripped of the captaincy, the English media wanted Capello out oft he England job. I saw Martin Samuel describe it as a social lynching, a perfectly adequate term on this occasion.

I also never understood the complaints of English fans about Capello. Look at what he is working with and look at what he has had to deal with. When the Terry/Bridge incident was turned into a full blown scandal by the media it deprived Capello of his rightful captain at the World Cup and disturbed his preparation. The English hysteria about captaincy also threw him off balance. At the tournament itself, his star player, Rooney, didn't perform and there was little he could do against a far superior Germany team. Since then signs have been a bit more encouraging but fans haven't forgiven him for the World Cup debacle. Personally I don't think any manager can or will do significantly better than Capello did. There isn't any great suggestion that the crop of young players England have at their disposal will be any better than the last bunch and Capello did all he could with them.

The way Capello was ridiculed in the papers was ridiculous. They painted a picture of a bumbling buffoon who always made the wrong decision. In reality this is one of the most respected and successful managers in world football. A Seria A winner. A La Liga winner. A Champions League winner. What makes people think Redknapp, with his significantly less impressive CV, will do any better?

I respect Capello for having the moral courage to speak out against what he believed was wrong. I also think Fabio probably saved himself a lot of headache and saved himself from a media bashing once England performed poorly at the Euro's this Summer, at his age, with the success he has achieved in his career, he doesn't need the bother.

The Football Association has announced Fabio Capello has resigned as England manager, and it has been accepted with immediate effect.

Capello had criticised the FA on Italian television following the decision to strip John Terry of the captaincy ahead of a court case in July. On Wednesday, a meeting with the board was held and Capello - who oversaw 28 wins, eight draws and six defeats during his time in charge - tendered his resignation.

An FA statement read: "The Football Association can confirm that Fabio Capello has today resigned as England manager. This follows a meeting involving FA chairman David Bernstein, FA general secretary Alex Horne and Fabio Capello at Wembley Stadium.

"The discussions focused on the FA board's decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello's response through an Italian broadcast interview.

"In a meeting for over an hour, Fabio's resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England manager with immediate effect."

Capello has come in for heavy criticism in the English press, with several newspapers calling for his resignation in light of his reaction to the Terry affair, but Bernstein said he was satisfied with the manager's behaviour.

"I would like to stress that during today's meeting and throughout his time as England manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner," Bernstein said. "We have accepted Fabio's resignation, agreeing this is the right decision. We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future."

A press conference will take place on Thursday at midday local time.

Prior to the announcement, ESPNsoccernet had been informed that the FA had lined upHarry Redknapp as Capello's successor.

With Capello's contract having been due to expire at the end of Euro 2012, Tottenham boss Redknapp had long been tipped to take on the role, but his tax evasion case had raised doubts. The FA had been closely monitoring developments in the case and, following Wednesday's not guilty verdict, the path was made clear to offer the 64-year-old the job.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs would allow Redknapp to take on the role part-time until the end of the season, but former national team manager Sven-Goran Eriksson believes he is the perfect man for the job.

Eriksson told BBC Sport: "I think Redknapp will be a very, very good choice. He's English; he knows his football. He is doing a great job with Tottenham and has done a great job with every team he's had in the past, so I guess it will be him.

"You need to be an experienced manager used to dealing with the big names and some knowledge about international football would help. I think Harry has all these things."

Scotland boss Craig Levein feels it may not be feasible for Redknapp to take on the national job in addition to his club duties.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I think it's extremely difficult. I believe England have got a great opportunity in the summer going to the Euro finals.

"It might be very difficult for a manager to stay at his club and devote the time that's needed to do the England manager's job. I don't know what the FA will decide is best way forward."

Guus Hiddink is reported to have expressed an interest in taking the job.
