Frank Lampard

When Lampard signed a contract which was a relief for most people as we thought he could leave, I don't think anyone would think he would be starting our first 3 games which he has done. Did not see at all. Mourinho needs to rest him sometimes and rotate IMO as much as a legend he is. He has started every single game. I think he should be used as Giggs does but a bit more obviously as he has more legs than him. What an ironic turn. He looked like he would not be offered a contract and then you see him starting our first 3 games icon_rolleyes.gif

Jose's love affair with this guy is truly disturbing.

Jose's going with guys he can trust and who know this league.

There's nothing disturbing about that - your reaction on the other hand....well it's predictable. I do hope you find a way to enjoy this football club though.

A 35 year old who gets run over so easily and can't do the basic jobs he needs to do as a midfielder?

I am really worried about his continual presence in the starting line up. He just does not cut it in big games anymore for us. I hope Mourinho realises that soon enough. For a player who has had a pre season disrupted by injuries its really surprising that he has played over 270 minutes of football without being substituted. I hope Van Ginkel starts on Friday. The kid was impressive in pre season and deserves his chance.

Pity everyone's being so harsh in him. he started 3 games in such a small span of time. That's the problem, not that he's a bad player. People cried when he wouldn't get a contract and are now crying when he's playing. There is no pleasing for some of us. Only talk about taking up Ginkel, if you've seen him play at Vitesse. He's more of a holding player, rarely gets forward. In the Ramires-Lampard partnership, Ramires is the one who holds. Who in their right mind would put two holding midfielders together when one needs to get forward? No point in converting Ramires into an attack-minded one, he's doing brilliant at distributing the playing and controlling the midfield.

Are we talking about the same box-to-box midfielder that scored 12 goals in 41 appearances for Vitesse last season?

Goals are nothing. He makes very few forward appearances. Even the goals he has scored are dodgy ones. People compare him to Lampard cause they think he makes late runs. However he makes very very few of them.

No central midfielders makes as many forward runs as Frank, but still, you don't score 12 goals in a season while playing the holding role (while playing well, at least).

Their new manager has just been appointed in 2013, after consulting to Emenalo. But the assistant manager has been there since 2009 or 10 I believe, Albert Capellas Herms . He's the one who's the master-mind behind Vitesse's philosophy. Their holding midfielders play high-up the field. van Ginkel used to partner with either Propper or Janssen. They don't have Chelsea's system of having one midfielder pushing up and one holding. When Vitesse employed it in between games, Ginkel used to hold and cover for Kalas or Leerdam and Aanholt while Janssen went forward . His 12 goals have come from moments where he is up the pitch alongside a midfielder. Vitesse never played a high line, so with someone as intelligent as Ginkel or Propper, the distance could be covered quickly. That doesn't necessarily mean that he attacks a lot. he prefers to defend, and distribute the play.

Well I won't argue any further since I only watched 2-3 Vitesse games at the start of last season. His defensive side does seem better than his offensive side.

Agreed but you never know until we've given him a chance as the attack minded midfielder in our squad . If people are ready to take a risk then we can have him adapt into that kind of a role that Lampard has played in the past three games .

That is what makes Jose special . He doesnt read the rubbish on forums and picks his teams on what players do on the pitch ,anyone thinking Lampard will be rested is right ,for the league cup and some easy home games :D .

Love having Jose back and seeing the people who write Lampard off eat their words.

Like Jose first name on the sheet for me is Lampard.

I really hope it's just a case of 'blending in' the new talent/squad, i.e. Van Ginkel; starting off with a squad similar to the end of last season and gradually introducing the new starting 11 to include MvG and Willian etc.

Lamps starting against Hull I can understand. First game of the season and all that against smaller opposition. Maybe against Villa too since MvG is probably not ready yet and Mikel hasn't had a full pre-season. But not against United away.

If José was going for a counter-attacking angle, surely it would've been better to have a pairing of 'Mikel-Ramires' with Mikel deep and Rami allowed to push forward when required...did Mourinho see what that pair did at Old Trafford last season? Even Essien instead of Lamps would've surely been better?

But what do I know I guess...maybe José just really didn't want to lose, so he had to ensure Ramires was shackled (and he plays so poorly in comparison to when he's not).

Then again, Mourinho can hardly complain about how we didn't move the ball quickly from defence to attack after selecting Lampard and shackling Ramires...

Really hoping for a big impact from MvG this season, as our chances of signing another DM look very slim at the moment.

Just accept Mourinho is a class manager who knows a player and he chooses Lampard ,every time.
