Tough to say because everyone will have their own criteria, but he's certainly up there. Our best goalscoring midfielder without a doubt and he gets extra points for longevity but is he the best player we've ever had on our books?

I think, because of the titles, because of his involvement and professionalism, because of his natural talent to find the perfect pass & perfect timing to score, and because of his longivity, he deserves the title of greatest ever.If Zola won that much trophy with the same amout of goals he scored when he was i player, i'd go for Gianfranco, but Lamps through the years was the perfect player who represent the Chelsea mentality, he is our heart.

Best player ever for me and of his current generation its not even close. I am sure many of our older members may differ who had seen the likes of osgood and tambling etc, but for me Frank Lampard is NO.1 and for anyone to surpass him would mean they would have to do something so so special...

Lampard is one of three players to feature in both games against Southampton (2-2 draw at home, 2-1 loss away) and QPR (0-0 draw away and 1-0 loss at home).

In fact by my reckoning of the last six games we've lost, the only TWO players to start each of them has been Ivanovic and.....

Lamps.

(Southampton away, Man City away, Steaua away, Newcastle away, Swansea home, QPR home).

That doesn't include the Man United FA Cup game that he came off in when we were 2-0 down, before coming back to draw 2-2.

Well, here we go again.

He looks good when the opposition's midfield is nonexistent (i.n. West Ham, West Brom), but as soon as the midfield is combative and puts pressure, he is nowhere to be seen. He was a passenger in all the games aforementioned by The Only Place. The interest, when you keep old players around, is that while they aren't as good as they were, they can give you leadership and experience. Though, the problem is, that Lampard seemingly doesn't give us that. He failed to have an impact in these games ; and you never saw him trying to put the team together, to grab the leadership and instruct other players when we were in a mess.

Aside for the reminiscence of the old good days, I fail to see any reason for which we should give him another contract, even if it were for £80k per week. I just think that's the best if we part our ways in the summer.

Exactly. I was telling my mate today he is utter useless in games when teams press us and give us little time on the ball. Everyone, well not everyone, a lot of Chelsea fans seem to think hes still the player he was 3-4 years ago when he clearly isn't. I've heard 'he should be given a contract because of the fact hes scored 180 odd goals for Chelsea' far too many times this year too (before he scored a lot of his goals this season and ultimately his 200th). Maybe a 20 goal a season central midfielder is irreplaceable but a central midfielder of high quality that fits a philosophy and formation isn't. This team isn't built around the likes of Lampard, Drogba, Makelele, Terry etc anymore. Also the point about him taking a pay cut, even for a player who's going to play against all the smaller teams, 80k a week is a lot. I doubt Mata is even on 80k a week. That money could be reinvested elsewhere.

It's been a miserable season, the owner doesn't want you anymore, being asked to play in a defensive position, a position that he's hurting the back four and exposing Mikel by bombing forward all for the pursuit of a record out of selfishness. Yeah I can see how he mentally checked out and doesn't give a fuck really. Rafa's first choice pairing down the stretch of the season should always be Mikel and Ramires and Lamps off the bench in relief of Mata with an odd start. He only cares about his offensive side because he wants to remain in Hodgson's WC plans and I can't really blame him when the club has made it clear he has no future with them.

As a blues legend, he deserves at least one-year extension on his contract. 34 years old and still score more goals than Torres. Every Chelsea fan would break out in tears if he left at the end of the season.

Rumours from the paper changes over time. His agent says the club seems reluctant to offer him a new contract.

Why doesn't Roman like him? Why? It seems pretty reasonable to offer him a one year extension on his contract based on his performance so far this season. Why did we offer Cole a new contract not Lampard?

I just can't understand the reasons behind it. I would lose half of my love on Chelsea if Lampard leaves. I have been watching him playing since 2003.

First, we don't know for sure if the club is reluctant to give him a new contract. Maybe they are trying to work out something.

Secondly, we don't know Lampard's wage demand, it certainly wouldn't be the wisest thing in the world to pay a ridiculous amount of money to a 34 year old.

Thirdly, Lampard is one of the best players who's ever put on a chelsea shirt, i love him to death. BUT he has not been able to produce the goods consistently this season, yes he still scored more than 10 goals in the PL this season but his overall performance hasn't been up there. Different to Cole (who also experienced a dip in form due to age) but still is one of the best fullbacks in the world.

Last point, just because a legend is leaving doesn't mean you have to love the club less, no one is bigger than the club. I love Lampard a huge amount, as well as Drogba who left. Would I be heart broken if Lampard leaves, or Terry in the near future? heck yeah I would probably shed a tear like I did when Drogba left.

Would I love Chelsea less, no way.
