how did that work for Casillas and Pepe? ... I'm sure that's the excuse but ... we'll see, I guess

The situations can't be compared. In Madrid there was huge issues and fighting in the dressing room and you have no idea how much politics there is there, even among players. And, tbf for Jose, neither of the was good enough to be in the Madrid starting XI.

Mata is a professional, there is nothing personal between him and Jose. He will either step-up and prove that he can be a vital part of Jose's system or he will leave, it's that simple.

Perfectly said. Just that most fans couldn't bare to face that 2nd option you said because Mata was our best player in the last 2 years.

The fight, discontentment was created by Jose because he benched Casillas.

Now, you want Mata to adapt to a different role or hit the road ?

I know it is not the same, I didn't claim it was ... but the fact that he went public with the issue didn't help .. I'm glad he talked about high line defense and the need for the number 10 role to press the midfield, that was exactly what I had in mind. But, again, he could have avoided saying "Mata needs to learn playing my way" , "Oscar is my number 10", "Mata had a better stat because Oscar was playing wide and was helping to defend" ... he was better off not saying any of those things, IMHO :)

PS: especially on the part where he defended Oscar's stat last season against that of Mata, I think Jose fell in to the pundit's trap ... it was rather an emotional statement, totally uncalled for

The fight was way before Lopez was bought and Cassillas benched, in fact that is why Lopez was bought, because Jose had issues with Iker. The issues started with Ramos the year before.

Being beneficial to the team or "hitting the road" is kind of how all player-club relations work.

Yeah, of course you can make a case of why he should not have said that, but Jose is the ultimate motivator, half his "game" is the psychological war. It has worked miracles in the past so I trust his judgement here. Sometimes the war has it's causalities, but it is for the good of the team in the long run.

Ok then. Mata is not beneficial to the team if I read it well,

Today, I read:

New Chelsea style doesn´t suit Torres. Is he going to be benched too ?

on the bright side of things, we now once more have a manager with balls and he understands the need for change ... I'm enjoying Jose talking about high blocking (as he calls it :)), repossessing the ball quickly in the opposition half, the need for keeping the ball on the ground for we don't have DD any more and that we will never try to get back to the old ways of doing things ... its really great listening all these from Jose cause some of us were expecting the opposite :)

But is there someone in Torres' position playing much better than him?

Torres, on any account, has been just as "benched" as Mata and has gotten almost the same amount of minutes. It comes down to who is playing best in the current system and, atm, Mata is not. You can't keep starting a player for what he has done in the past.

If all in here is pointless to you, perhaps you should ask the mods to pack it in & close this forum ?

I did

Close this thread. I'm getting sick of this shit.

:Goober:

:Goober:

I mean what we're arguing and discussing right now will be pointless, if Mata perform again. As simple as that. We all know it is just a matter of time.

he benched casillas because casillas was starting to suck. even carlo has taken the same decision and any1 who has watched RM continously would say that it was the right decision. the benching had nothing to do with the fight/discontenment. they were fighting way before casillas was benched.

May I ask who exactly is better than Torres, currently ?

If I remember correctly, Chelsea´s strikers scored ONE GOAL so far.

Certainly, I do not want to start a player based on his past. All I am asking, if Jose didn´t want to use Mata, why not sell him then ?

Luiz benched, KDB not playing, Mata´s benched, the strikers are useless...but Jose has got a new project ?

seriously??? PAST?? so mata won his last POTY award and was our most influential player 10 years ago, right??

he has had 2 starts in the season out of which the 1st one was after he had just 45 minutes in the whole pre-season. he was not even physically fit, forget about being match-fit (i dont think he is match-fit even now).

mata is benched for very valid reasons, but to give the argument u have given here is like saying mata is a worthless and has been on a declining trajectory for sometime now.
