🇪🇸 Juan Mata

Not as pacey as Hazard. Very good vision though and not a bad finisher either. However one thing concerning about Mata is that he doesn't have the nerve, bottled quite a few penalties and just seem to not have that x-factor at the most vital moment like Drogba. Not unsellable again imo, if Jose want him and we get at least £45m, he could go and we should sign Thiago/Isco to replace if he leaves. However one of our best player atm, understandably why some fans would hate to lose him.

you mean the x-factor when he gave the assist to drogba? or the corner-kick against benfica?

No that is not it, the x-factor is like when he scored against MU late last season but there are too few moment of that to talk about. Taking a corner mean nothing, it just happens to find our player's head and go in, that corner could have been taken by Azpliculetta and the result will probably be the same.

Go watch our game vs. Tottenham away last season and tell me Mata has no "x factor".

Seriously, did some people even watch us last season?

AT THE MOST VITAL MOMENT, I never said he doesn't have it in him. In fact, he showed a few time why he is our favorite player with games against MU and Spurs

Him not scoring penalties is down more to the fact that his penalty taking skills are average and predictable if you like, nothing to do with his mentality.

Care to mention those 'AT THE MOST VITAL MOMENT'?

CL final miss?

And vital moments are like that Drogba header in CL final, Drogba last min goal against MU FA Cup 2006...etc a moment of brilliance.

His stunning volley vs United? The cracker against Arsenal? His corner kick assists in the dying minutes of the Shaktar, Benfica, and Munich matches? His assist to Ash in the last 5 minutes against Stoke for the game winner? The fact he has 3 assists in 2 European finals? I'm sure there's a lot more from his 1st season if someone looked it up. I know we're not supposed to personally insult people but my word some people make it really difficult.

Like I said, that was more down to his way of taking penalties. His other missed penalties is an example of it. His technique and style isn't exactly the best. And admittedly, Mata did look nervous when taking the penalty but arguably understandable considering he has never found himself in such high pressurized situatiob before. He will learn to get stronger from such moments, as every player does.

And vital moments are like that Drogba header in CL final, Drogba last min goal against MU FA Cup 2006...etc a moment of brilliance.

Think it's myopic to just put down a moment of brilliance down to goals. Delivering assists and quality assists at that is also as important as scoring vital goals in big games and Mata performed magnificently on both fronts last season. I mean how many times have we looked clueless when he's not playing last season? How many times last season, when we are not winning or losing, Mata comes up with a crucial opening goal or delivering a quality assist that leads to a goal for us and save our bacons?

You talk about Drogba's header in the Champions League final being a moment of brilliance. Yes, no doubt it was brilliant and crucial header but funnily enough, had Mata not delivered the right quality of corner then, Drogba wouldn't have scored it. And mind you, Drogba's last minute goal against Man United in the 2007 FA Cup final was not a moment of individual brilliance. It owed more to a moment of team play brilliance between Lampard and Drogba.

I asked you for 'vital moments' that you think Mata is not delivering and yet all you have given is just comparison with another player. Not giving the moments like I asked kinda defeat your point about Mata doesn't have the 'X-Factor' in him. You say it but don't have the substance to back it up. And think it has been obvious that you like Isco very much judging from your post above and the one posted in his thread IIRC but it seems to me that you are using him as a reason to downplay the quality of players we have, first Oscar and now Mata, all because you want us to buy Isco.

Juan Mata staying at Chelsea and will get Mourinho call to rubbish Barcelona links

A complete turnaround from the Mirror...

Juan Mata’s future at Chelsea is secure, with Jose Mourinho planning to make the Spanish ace pivotal to his new-look Blues.

Mata’s Stamford Bridge future appeared in doubt amid suggestions the Special One was not entirely convinced by the former Valencia man.

...

The Portuguese will instead tell Mata that he is integral to his thoughts and team-shape for the new campaign.

Mourinho’s determination to keep Mata at the club and onside - a new five-year deal could be on the cards as a statement of intent - will reassure Blues fans, who have taken the little Spaniard to their hearts.

Finally!

Not that this article in itself is anymore reliable than all the other BS ('a source in spain')... It was just that all this talk about him leaving was getting on my nerves.

I don't think we will sell him and we probably shouldn't do so now. He is our second best and probably most important player. So there is no reason to do so. Bu it is not that he is sacrosanct. For anything above 50m I'd consider selling him. Replacing him would not really be that much of a problem. We got Oscar and de Bruyne, who can be at least as good. They are much more complete. Also it would be easier to implement the 4-3-3 which IMO is better for the epl and fits us better than the 4-2-3-1. For the money we could get a player who would help us in departments were we got bigger problems such as defensive midfield.

But again why? He is at the very peak of his power right now. We can still make a good profit on him in a few years.

Big whoop he missed a penalty, even I've missed a penalty. The best players in the world all miss penalties, hence why I've missed one
