Romelu Lukaku

It seems like he's being wasted. Not in the squad for Sunderland, not in the Champions League squad and unlikely to play against United. Yes, he's a talent but talent need game time and I don't see Chelsea offering him that much of it. We most likely bought him so another club doesn't buy him.

My $0.2

Finally got to see Lukaku in action for the whole 90 and another 30 minutes as well. Decent performance, with great commitment.

However, what he does need to work is his technique (crossing mainly) and his jumping. For such a tall guy, its a wonder that he couldn't get his head onto some of the good crosses played into the area; In short, he needs to work on his fitness. (Remember the cramps as well?)

But what amazed me today was his speed. He could indeed become a deadly weapon if honed properly. But to work in this Chelsea team he'll need to become a better all-round player, and a more complete center forward.

Didn't do well when on the ball. Almost always made the wrong decision between shooting or passing and thus a few moves broke down. Needs a better first touch but when playing with his back to goal it doesn't matter that much because his strength is unreal.

That's the difference between him and Drogba, but he's only 18 and there is so much time to progress and become a better player.

The service he got in the first half would make Torres feel sorry for him, Sturridge and Kalou were too greedy to work with him so he had to drop deeper to get involved with our play. After Alex's red card the game was crazy and it's impossible to draw too many conclusions out of it but he showed good fighting spirit, endurance and speed.

He has a lot of potential in him and he could be a great player. His physical strength is impressive. But, he will have to work very hard to fulfil this potential. His first touch is abysmal, his technic is average at best, and as some other members have already said, for his tall he's not really good with his head. If he can progress in those things, he will turn very good.

Hence I think we have done well to buy him that early. Through our good training ground, with the good staff and all he will have a good chance to improve his technical flaws, in a better way than what he could have done in Belgium or a through a loan.

Definitely needs to go out on loan in Jan. His technical attributes are very very poor right now. With consistent playing time he'll improve a great deal in 6 months. I think if we keep him here and just have him play 15 minutes every other week it'll do him no good at all.

Nice lil' write up about Lukaku's current state of mind. On the issue of loaning out Lukaku, I don't agree w/ letting him develop on another club. Let him train everyday w/ our vets (JT, Lamps, DD). He is obviously is learning from them & that is a good thing. Not sure if Pullis or Coyle can help in those departments.

Agreed. But it should be some team that plays simple football and passing game, not a strong physical side like Stoke. Everton would be a good choice if possible.

Training won't help imo he needs to go somewhere and gain match sharpness

Yeah, I'm glad the Stoke loan didn't work out. Bolton are dire right now, but maybe Wigan?? Or perhaps Sunderland... they're really lacking in the striker department

No. I'm agreed with Rodbog here. He doesn't need to go out on loan. What he needs at the moment, is to train harder and harder. Because at the moment, he is still a raw product, a work in progress, and keep in mind that he is only 18.

Indeed, at the moment, I believe the more important thing for him and his develoment, isn't to gain playing time, but to improve his basic football abilities. I mean, he needs to work on his first touch, on his dribbling ability/quality, on his header. And those things are improved through training sessions. Furthermore, we seem to have one of the better training facilities in the country, isn't it ? Hence I think he will be in a better environment here, to improve his flaws, than somewhere else in a smaller club with smaller facilities.

this is a settling in season for him ..as well as what Kostas correctly recognised he needs work on his fitness levels

Drogba and Kalou will be away at ACON in January..Lukaku needs to be ready by then ...Training with the squad will prepare

him better that a period on loan .

Actually I was agreeing w/ you ;) Remember he got plenty of games in Belgium. He needs assistance going to the next level. Coyle or Moyes can't give him that. They will only get him injured.
