Good question, what do they know that every reporter doesn't know. I wonder if Costa to China being put off has changed things, they were expecting huge fees for Costa. Atletico are likely not even going to pay half of that sum. It would have been much easier for Chelsea to fork out the hefty fee when knowing Costa sale would have financed it. Now its not the case. Georgy 439
Selling an arguably better player we had for 30m, to buy a mammoth for 100m. Meanwhile Arsenal bought a player twice as good as Lukaku for 50m, while Aubameyang, Belloti and Morata despite being better and cheaper we prefer Lukaku. Hilarious crap if this happens and for anything close to that sum. simonez

Hilarious crap if this happens and for anything close to that sum. The price of Diego wont represent fair market value cause of the drama surrounding him. Calling Lacazette twice as good as Lukaku isn't accurate, Lukaku has been banging in goals in a harder league. Belotti and Morata are really good players (i personally want Belotti) but in this market we dont know what their price is, only really Belotti at 86M. Of the 4 strikers Laca/Belotti/Morata/Lukaku I would argue Lukaku has the most experience and success leading a line by himself, Morata has had the most team success obviously but not as much game time. I understand you don't like lukaku for whatever your reasons are, but the player has been massively successful in how a striker is deemed a success (goals, i know it can be debated but they are all being paid to score) in a very difficult league. If he does end up coming I will be fine with a fee of 70-80M but that being said I hope we don't set a world record for him. Stats and AK-3001

Jype 6,398
1 hour ago, Leif said: How many top teams do Juventus, Bayern, or PSG have to face a season? How many do we? They can afford to, and always do, rest their very best striker(s), while playing youth or otherwise for half the games of a season. They can save Lewandowski & Cavani for the big games in Europe, pulling them off after 60 mins each game. If we saved Costa that way, for example, mainly for the big games like these others do, our season would collapse. Where is our Dybala? And Mandzukic? Don't imply Juventus don't have multiple top strikers. Where is our Muller? Their Plan-B centre forwards are as good as all our Plan-A ones from the past 5 years. Why wouldn't you compare us to teams in our own league? Because it defeats & contradicts your point? Any point no matter how solid can have a point built against it if someone wants to build it enough - that doesn't mean it's valid. The idea that for Chelsea, to win both league titles and European titles, multiple top strikers aren't needed, isn't valid. That shouldn't even need explained, it's obvious why a team can't do that, why 1 striker can't do that. Like you, I can just ask, how many great strikers do Barcelona have? How many great strikers did United have last season? How many great strikers did we have during our most successful period? How many great strikers do Man City, our actual competition, not PSG, have? Did I just make a point by asking those questions? No, because they're obviously stupid in this context. Comparing us to a team who couldn't even win the French league this season, to a team that beat Roma by 4 points, their worst season in ages, to a team who walk the league even with half of their players injured. Not a strong rebuttal. Serie A is not as bad anymore as it was a few years ago, I'd classify the likes of Roma and Napoli as "top teams" just as much as teams like Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are in the PL. Sure, competition is a little bit tougher in English football due to couple more good teams but overall it's still really overrated compared to the other leagues so let's not kid ourselves here by saying that teams in the Prem need that much more quality to compete than top teams in the other leagues do. Nice facts you got there re: Lewandowski. In all competitions he started 45 out of Bayern's 50 competitive games (31 in BuLi, 4 in the DFB Cup, 9 in the CL plus the Super Cup) and was substituted out a whole of six times, with five of those substitutions being after the 80 minute mark. Too lazy to check but pretty sure Cavani started close to 50 games last season too but yeah, PSG didn't really win anything significant so there's that. Dybala is a great player and Mandzukic is not bad either. If you watched any Juve games last season you'd know Mandzukic was primarily played out wide as a winger and Dybala played behind Higuain but pretty much never as a striker. Feel free to disagree but I'm quite certain Chelsea have good wingers or attacking midfielders too like this guy called Eden Hazard, maybe you've heard of him? I compared to other European top teams we're competing against for the CL, because that's what I figured you were after. All those show that it's not some undisputed fact that a team needs to hoard many world class strikers to compete at the highest level. But okey, I'll play this game: Man City - great options in both quality and quantity, I'll give you that. Man United - after this window will most likely have Morata and Rashford. I'd have to be pretty fucking drunk to take that duo ahead of Lukaku/Michy. Liverpool -  they've got Firmino who's not really even a real striker although a handy little player, Origi who's shit, Sturridge who's barely fit to play football and Ings who I'm pretty sure everyone has already forgotten about having played about five games for them in two seasons. Not exactly world beaters most of those, are they? Arsenal - Sanchez, Giroud and Perez probably all leaving by the looks of things. Lacazette a lot more unproven than Lukaku and their backup is Danny Welbeck who's both a sick note and a shit striker who can't hit a barn door. Walcott is a decent lad, but plays mostly on the wing anyways. Tottenham - Harry Kane, a great player. After that who do they have that makes you so concerned, Vincent fucking Janssen? That Korean guy is allright, I guess.  You're nothing but a bad wind-up merchant who's trying so hard to be controversial.
Dahnald 256
Arsenal signed Alexandre Lacazette for 53 million. That's cheaper than Lukaku and I rate Lacazette higher than Rom.

Batman obviously will stay, if that is the case. Don't worry, there are some options available if we offer the right price. My concern is that we need two more strikers to be able to run well in 4 competitions, when it looks like we are struggling to sign even one. Jype 6,398
Matt Lawton, chief sports reporter for Daily Mail, is reporting Lukaku to United for £100M as an almost sure thing. Morata to United is already pretty much done, so could they really be in for Lukaku too and spend a combined £180M for two strikers? Really scary stuff, if true. Would leave Chelsea slightly fucked too, because after Morata and Lukaku there'd be only Aubameyang and Belotti available that even remotely fit the bill. I wouldn't say no to Aubameyang but not sure about Belotti, haven't seen enough of him.

Pizy 18,909
I'm not worried for us either way. If he comes here, fine, if he goes elsewhere we know for sure we'll bring someone in. We have to. We're getting a top class striker from somewhere. Would be funny to see Martial and Rashford get Mourinho'd, though. How would they feel if United spent £200m on new, young strikers?

Still hoping to get Lukaku though. These new reports might as well be someone at Everton spreading rumours to get Chelsea to increase their bid and hurry the fuck up. Transfer like this, it's not really in anyone's best interest to let it drag on for too long.
AK-3001 286
Not sure why people on here are happy about Lukaku to United.  You folks don't realize Costa is set to leave, Lukaku is the most settled striker in the league that's available and has years left in his career. Thor, Stats and MefiX19
