Emenalo set for Chelsea DoF role as Hiddink snubs Abramovich

Michael Emenalo is set to become Chelsea's next Director of Football after Guus Hiddink opted to see out his contract with Turkey.The Nigerian was controversially forced on ex-boss Carlo Ancelotti in October after the Italian's assistant Ray Wilkins was sacked.

Ancelotti's relationship with Emenalo, brought to the club as a scout under former boss Avram Grant was strained throughout the latter months of the campaign.

While Emenalo sat near Ancelotti in the dug-out, the Italian appeared far keener to consult Paul Clement rather than the ambitious African, whose experience of top level football is extremely limited.

New boss Andre Villas-Boas will be given the power to select his own coaching staff, with physical trainer Jose Mario Rocha and opposition scout Daniel Sousa coming with him from Porto and other appointments expected.

But with Hiddink - still on the pay-roll as an adviser to the club - understood to have told Roman Abramovich he does not believe it would be right to walk out on his Turkish paymasters, Emenalo emerged last night as the favourite to take over the role effectively vacated by Frank Arnesen's move to Hamburg.

If this seriously happen, then it would show how RM is unpredictable. On one hand he sign a young manager who has loads of potential and on other hand he puts Emenalo who doesnt has "P" of potential on a position which really needs responsibility. I would rather see RA as the owner + DOF offically rather than Emenalo. I hope Emenalo is not made the DOF rather show the door.

is anyone else wondering what really happened with all the rumors around Hiddink and his return in some capacity ? In the inderpendent today it says Hiddink rounied his chances of returning by insisting for Ray wilikins to return . I hope he has not been played with and relations between him and the club can remain goood .

I really wish people would stop questioning Emenalo's knowledge of the game. Obviously he is doing something right otherwise he wouldn't have been employed by a club like Chelsea. Just because you don't hear him talkl about his role very often, does not mean he cannot do it effectively. That being said, it doesn't look like he will be staying as assistant coach for the coming season, maybe a role upstairs could be on the cards.
