    Absolutely INCREDIBLE signing!
This is a sign of intent from the board, this is an unbelievable moment for us, we managed to sign a top 3 midifielder in his position guys, this is an absolutely gigantic signing for us, the level that Azpi, Kante and Eden were.
I am actually pretty emotional that this actually happened. i love this club so freaking much

I honestly think it just clever business. I know it's quickly becoming cliche but our business model is a proven success. I'm sure you are aware of our recent achievements. Whilst the likes of City spend ridiculous amounts and fall very short of what we have achieved. It's not like we don't spend either. The majority of this forum act as if we have spend fuck all in this window in a market that is chaotic and in my opinion out of control.

He's clearly still adjusting to the league (though the ref today was practically taking the piss all the fouls he was not giving him). He's also still also building chemistry and learning how to linkup with his new teammates.
But his movement is absolutely world class, inside and outside the box. And the way he attacks the ball with his head could be taught in academies.
Definitely need to see him contributing more, but can't complain with 2 goals and 2 assists in his first two home games!

Loved his performance, effort and attitude. Not the mentally weak boy we feared he was. bounced back from that penalty miss immediately. He might very well be the man we need. Lets hope he can start next match, score again and put his doubters to shame.

I cannot believe that he has the audacity to say such a thing — him from all people... Seriously, him who made us park the bus against a team playing with ten men for 70 minutes while we were at home ; him who made us play one of the most defensive, conservative and uninspiring — in a word, the shitiest — football that I have ever seen.
At times, I wish genuinely that his name were to be erased from our history, even if that means losing our titles, I cannot stand being "grateful" to such a little man and I cannot stand the fact our club is associated with him. He is really a pathetic sad man — he is of the worst kind.

He's trying to put the narrative out there that Chelsea are an ultra defensive team. He wants the media to pursue this narrative and taint our stellar season with this angle.
It must be eating him inside to see what's happening at Chelsea this season and the feel good factor currently around the club. There's been a lot of good press for Conte in recent weeks and this is his pitiful attempt to try and put a stop to that.
The man is an absolute c*** of the highest order.

Luiz is our best defender. I shared that view the first time he was here, and now people are sharing that view with me the second time around.

Just because he smiles and jokes around, doesn't make him and his play a joke. He has always been world class.

Yeah, don't think anyone expects him to keep this up.
If you just want to see the types of finishes, he's capable of, you can check his highlights from the Chelsea youth games. He's definitely capable of more than just tap-ins.
It's his all around game is what I'm looking to assess because that's what he needs make it at Chelsea. This is where Bamford was poor even though he was scoring a lot as well.

His all round game isn't that great tbh. He's just a very good, clinical poacher. Could make a career as that but from what I've seen he needs a bit more if he is to make it a CFC. The Championship is an entirely different level to the PL so I'm not getting my hopes up yet. He should keep proving me wrong though.

I just think his scoring run is unsustainable at the moment. I want to see more varied finishes before we start declaring he's a future star.

Wish I could watch a full match to watch his all round game.

If memory serves - and although it often fails, I don't think that's the case here - David had always showed up in the big games we played. His brainfarts happened mostly in smaller games. I believe I discussed this in the past - while he was still with us - that he has concentration issues. He's sharp in big games because he's 'overly' focused (to his standards) and he is sloppy in smaller games because he doesn't take them as seriously as the big ones (concentration speaking, I do believe consciously he takes all matches seriously, but I'm talking unconsciously). It's the same with Diego Costa and friendlies. Diego rarely shows up at them, even if you see him trying, although sometimes is even in his body language he isn't riled up to the friendly.
That means we have a more solid defense against bigger teams and are taking risks against smaller teams. I hope Conte can help with this, but I also believe against certain teams, even if we concede a goal, we should be outscoring opposition.
People were saying that we stood no chance playing against the Manchester teams or even our (inferior) London rivals because of our defense. Well, whether I still like him or not, David Luiz had always been a big-game kind of player, so we clearly made progress on that. Hopefully he won't give away more goals than we are capable of netting ourselves against mid-table and bottom-table teams.
The more I look into this transfer, the more it makes sense given how the market worked for us and how we don't have European football to offer and no guarantee we will have next season (things in England are going to be close, as usual). As much as we'd like to believe the opposite, EPL isn't like other leagues where a big team doesn't get into UCL in a fluke season, but is back in the next. Actually Germany, Spain and France don't even allow fluke seasons to big teams, as they're worlds apart from the second tier. In England it's different and although I really hope/expect we'll break into the top 4, there's a chance we won't. We are some way to being the team we were for the last decade where UCL was a given. Hopefully we'll back to that soon.

He hasn't even kicked a ball yet for us and you guys are moaning.
Just remember who we currently have at RB. Moving Azpi over there alone would be a huge upgrade and if Alonso can become a consistently good (doesn't even need to be great) LB that can link up with Hazard and put in dangerous crosses our team is much better.
Wait until he makes a handful of appearances before we start shitting on him.

The more this sinks in the happier I am
we need some passion and fight in the team - not the limp performances of last season
all of our defenders have a mistake in them - as do all other teams defenders - I just have a feeling this time round he will be a little more polished.
I'm definitely looking forward to him and Zouma in defence - two big crazy characters
Well done to all involved for rescuing the transfer window - decent signings, decent money - impressed  - I know I have been massively critical - but fair's fair - I was wrong and should have had more belief, I think last season jaded me more than I care to admit!
Lets keep the pressure up on those Northern Monkeys and if the draw - we could be top after next game  Roll on!!!

Mourinho axed, Luiz returns. For me it doesn't get better than this.
Relation between Mourinho and Luiz was far from good. I think Jose was the reason why Luiz celebrated against us in that CL game. Luiz even said for french press about Mourinho that "he might be special for you, but not for me". Luiz never looked really happy in french league. Things are normal now: Luiz a Chelsea player, and United with a successful but annoying manager that you would love to defeat.

I have read the transfer threads for a few weeks here now, and god does it bring out the worst in people.
The club can basically only do one thing right, and it is to sign the best players for low to reasonable prices (which they have managed in at least one case this summer so far). Anything else, and heads MUST ROLL for their incompetence. Circumstances does not matter, only what the fans WANT RIGHT NOW!!. It is not how a business works to begin with, and that isnt even the largest issue. This sense of entitlement is disgusting to be honest.
People who mention Pogba, Modric and Stones should think about it for a while. Modric was not sold to Chelsea because Spurs did not wish to strengthen a direct rival, it was not down to the fee (which at the time was substantial). Stones had fees approaching the one he got sold for this summer rejected last year, most likely due to his not so stellar 2015-2016. In both cases the players had transfer requests denied, and in both cases the clubs saw that it would be a struggle to keep those players. When it comes to Pogba we know very little. Maybe he was overvalued according to CFC, maybe we were not deemed to need him last summer (in relation to his fee), maybe he or his agent werent ready to move yet etc.

If Chelsea tries to pay a lower transfer fee for a highly rated player, and manages to do so, they are geniuses. If they fail, they are idiots.
If Chelsea tries to over-bid for a player, then there will be complaints that they are insane, and that the player is not worth the price.
If Chelsea looks at other players, then everyone is unhappy either with us targeting hard-to-get players, or for looking at what is deemed as "average" replacements (or Papi as it is spelled in these parts).

There is basically always something wrong with our strategy according to people here. This even though we have signed two players that appear to be excellent for reasonable prices, and some serious effort to adress the CB issue.

Things could be better from a relative point of view, but that does not mean that things could have been handled better. For all we know, the transfer people might just have been supremely unlucky, and are doing their absolute best to get us what the team needs.

I think thats a really simplistic way to look at transfer negotiations. If a club doesn't wan't to sell a player they aren't going to opening put a price tag on his head. Napoli know we need a CB so why would they accept our first few offers.

I must have watched a different Koulibaly in the videos I've seen of him. The exact opposite of a "lump who lumps the ball." He's a physical and athletic monster and is extremely comfortable on the ball. Much better than anyone in our squad now. He'd instantly take our defense to the next level.
I really, really hope we can negotiate with Napoli this week and get this done. Don't even care what crazy price we pay. He's too important not to get. He's the dominant CB we need so let's hope we don't walk away and settle for a lesser player. He should be priority #1.

I don't suppose the player would choose Everton over Chelsea. I'm certain however that his agent will keep the possibility of joining Everton open as long as possible in order to encourage Chelsea to maximise their contract offer.
Of course the agent may also be keeping the possibility of a move to Chelsea open only to encourage Napoli's new contract offer. Let's hope not. Let's hope that only half of this agent's tongue is forked. ?

Well, according to my sources (:P they're still better than the DM, Sun and Mirror) the kid is talented, technical, killer instinct ,but already has an arrogant attitude about himself (not as bad as Lukaku though) thinking he's something very special. He's small, but fast, and in a sense could be compared to Walcott.
He could develop into a very good player, but he isn't on the level to move to big team yet. Discussing with my boys, we came to the conclusion it'd be good for his career to go to one of the three Portuguese teams, a medium team in Spain or maybe even a big in Italy and see how he develops after it.
I don't know anything myself, as I stated before, but I've never rated Theo, so I don't think I'd rate Gabriel either. Also his picture when you google him is ridiculous, omg, he has terrible styling(footballers normally do these days). Between the three guys I asked, only one thought maybe he could come to Chelsea, the other two don't think it'd be good for Chelsea (or the kid).
Unfortunately I start working in a week from now, and God knows how my life will be after vacation is over. I hope to make some time to be around more often.
Dude, I really don't have a problem with you, I swear, I even got along with you while I used to post, but seriously, what are you still doing here? I don't mean as a Chelsea fan, but in the forum. You seem delighted with the possibility of Conte having trouble with the board or vice-versa, you want Mourinho's team to beat Chelsea to punish players that Mourinho himself brought here and who Mourinho himself burned bridges with when he started behaving in an improper way, you're more active in Mourinho's thread than you seem to be in the rest of the forum. So I ask again, what are you still doing here - picking silly discussions and collecting people to dislike you? Of course, I'm not kicking you out (don't have the power or even the will to do that), I'm just questioning what's the point of come here to post about this kind of stuff. You're making no friends with such statements and it's very clear to everyone how you feel about Mourinho, what Chelsea and Mourinho did to each other last year and the current team and manager. Maybe you could take a break from the forum.
And talking about naive, let me tell you something, managers - let alone head coaches - don't have such things on their contracts about transfers. They could have a line or two mentioning they must have a saying in new contracts, but in a club with loan culture such as Chelsea, it's really irrelevant. Less and less managers have this power in football nowadays, as their tenure are shorter and shorter . Clubs keep making investments in the kind of people they hire to make part of their boards, and there's a reason for that. Suggesting that Conte or anyone else should have such a clause in their contract is beyond naive... which is ironic.
It's not only his propaganda of what he did to those players, but how some of them were picked by him and he had the ability to develop them into those talents they became. He has an eye for players with potential and a good hand to work with them. Not only this could be good propaganda to attract players that want similar development in their careers, but also tells a lot about Conte himself. We should definitely trust the unproven players he brings because if he has his eye on them is because he sees a potential he could help develop, which is great because it makes for good bargain tag prices and have players develop to meet our needs, not the other way around. It's always better to develop the player rather than get the final product because there's no guarantee a big name in one league will be as successful in another, except the very, very very top players that could play anywhere. Also, developing a player means that he already knows and has been adapted not only to the league, but to the club style and philosophy (two things Chelsea desperate need to establish and start working on).
