Stamford Bridge Thread

The chairman told viewers he was sure the name Stamford Bridge would go with the club should it move, and that the club would listen to fans' recommendations that a new ground design should have one, big, single-tier 'home end' stand as seen at some other grounds across Europe.

'If it makes sense and makes the fans happy, of course we'd consider things like that.'

Apparently the egm is now being held in the great hall in the west stand, the cpo have brought in the Electoral Reform Services to oversee the vote due to greater numbers now expected to turn up on the day, they are writing to all cpo shareholders and you need to email them to confirm your presence on the day.

If you are going make sure you have photo id on you ie: driving licence or passport, as no photo id means no admittance.

OPEN LETTER TO SHAREHOLDERS OF CPO

Recently, the club wrote to Chelsea Pitch Owners (CPO) asking the shareholders to allow the club to buy back the freehold land on which the Stamford Bridge stadium sits.

We believe there has been a lot of incorrect information spread through social media and otherwise regarding our proposal and we have tried to correct the misinformation through meetings with groups of shareholders, press briefings and information on the club website. We believe we have been transparent and all our fans should rest assured there are no hidden agendas.

Over the last few years, the club has made representations to the local authority regarding sites nearby. These representations are vital to ensure we protect our long-term position in relation to potential development sites in south-west London. It goes without saying that a move to another site in south or west London would be our first choice.

We emphasise that no decision to move has been made. But in order to give the club the option to move quickly, if the circumstances require, we need the ability to assure possible stadium development partners that we are permitted to leave Stamford Bridge and also able to use the development profits to help fund a new stadium. All development profits from Stamford Bridge would be used to partially fund a new stadium, and for no other purpose.

We also believe the protection Chelsea Pitch Owners gave the club in the 1990s is no longer necessary. CPO was formed when developers had their eye on this land, and there was a mortgage on the site.

The developers were looking for ways to push the club out against its will and redevelop the Stamford Bridge site which, at that time, was worth more than the club sitting on it.

Now the club is worth significantly more than the site. But Stamford Bridge is severely limited and we are unable to expand the stadium in a financially viable way. There is simply only so much you can fit on a site that is less than 12 acres.

We believe our proposal is a fair one. We know there is no one proposal that will please all fans. What we tried to do is meet most concerns and get the support of the CPO shareholders.

We can assure you we all want what is best for Chelsea FC and its fans. If we are not in a position to take up an option of a larger stadium sometime in the future, we will be faced with our matchday revenues continually dropping against those of our competitors.

Since Mr Abramovich bought the club in 2003, it has enjoyed the most successful period in its history. The owner and the Board want to build on that and we believe a vote in favour of the proposals is a vote for a continuation of that success.

Absolutely shameless

Agreed, the club could have done better than release that on the 15th anniversary of his death, shameless.

you dont understand.

were chelsea!

we neen to move away from strampord bridge to bigger stadioum,65,000.

we are a big club.stop with that,we are not everton.

obviously you have not thought this through. We were formed in 1905 after STAMFORD BRIDGE was built and there was no club to fill it. As a result, Chelsea Football Club were created. We have played there through the good and bad times right from the beginning in 1905. When you are actually at Stamford Bridge you can only really appreciate this and see that this site was also where we were playing 106 years ago. Without it we would not exist as a club. If you went to Stamford Bridge you would realise that it is our TRUE home, not some horrible 65 000 bowl stadium in Wormwood Scrubs

I haven't said much about this case, but I now and then think how horrible this situation actually is... Long story short, Terminator X hit the nail right on the head: Progression vs. Sentiment.

Do we move and progress as a club? Or do we stay in our real home with no chance to up the standards to a big club level? I feel that more spirited and long-time supporters will choose sentiment, and the more recent and factual fans will choose progression.

I still haven't decided my mind, because I want both - to stay AND progress. So it's a battle still going on in my head and I can't imagine what actual CPO voters think who bleed for this club.

It will come down to emotion and reason in the end. Although it's well known either option will have its pros and cons, it's a question of giving weight to those pros and cons, and which option eventually outweighs the other.

All of the planning applications made by Chelsea to the council since the 1950's. Nowhere can I see that we have actually applied for planning permission to expand Stamford Bridge since 2003

But that could be because they could not figure out a way to expand, so it would've been pointless to apply for planning permission.
