Kendrick Lamar is so fucking phenomenal, he will go down as one of the all-time greats.

i agree,, hopefully radio hosts like DJ envy(105.1 up here in NY/NJ) and Co. will play him instead of the "i fuck hoes, get money, and 50mil 100mill its accumulating" repetitive crap the likes of Wayne and Rick Ross produce.

which leads me, this is not just for you @, but everyone in here @BOSS,@DDA, @, @Leif,@Rambo,@Kojo,

what do you look for in a Hip-Hop/Rap song? does it have to be Lyrics, lyrics, lyrics,, or can it be beats, flow, etc.?

becuase i'll be honest, i dont mind some (again SOME) of the songs people like Rick Ross, and Co. do. even if its about the standard "fuck bithces get money, etc etc" but what i dont like is if thats ALL you can do. because now your lame and fake and theres no unique meaning to anything you do.

people like Eminem (my personal favorite) or K-Dot, Joeybada$$ T.I etc. etc. i like more because even if they rap about hoes and materilistic shit i know thats not what their truly about.

just want to hear other peoples opinions on the subject that is Hip-Hop/Rap,, also how do you view the state of the game today? you like it, hate it? share your thoughts.

It depends. I don't usually have a 'set criteria' for a favorable hip-hop song. Some artists aren't all that lyrically but their flow over a beat can make them seem (and rightly so) very good. Others are lyrically phenomenal and their story telling ability is second to none.

So what I'll look for in a song will depend. If the beat is on point, even if the lyrics are shit but still tolerable then I'd consider that a good song. At the same time if the artist is delivering a good flow and showing good lyricism on a mediocre beat.. that too could amount to a 'favorite song'.

As for the state of hip-hop itself? Well hip-hop's dead. Everyone knows and understands that. But there are a few artists still keepin' it real. Guys like Kendrick Lamar for example, Big K.r.i.t, Lupe Fiasco.. but Nas called it right when he dropped "hip-hop is dead".

fair enough,, my prime example of a weak lyrical song but amazing flow (IMO) is racks on racks (remix) by YC. something about that song just moooves me.
i just wanted to get some views on the matter and wheather people were optimistic about the future of the game nd all. theres no doubt the game is fake/dead/whatever you wanna call it but i see light at the end of the tunnel.

I thought I saw the light when J. Cole was on the rise, then he sold out. That's the problem with these potential saviors of hip-hop, it's very hard for them to stay true to their original music & seek the fortunes they desire from the game. Someone like K.Dot does seem like he's got his head on properly and GK,MC is a brilliant follow up to S.80, but it's what he does after that which I'll judge him on.

which is fair enough....im not much of a J.cole fan myslef but someone like K-Dot i hope stays true also,, the problem is nobody wants to call these "fakes" out directlyT.I adresses it in his song IM BACK but not fully and the only one who has the guts to say it, DMX, doesnt get as much love from POP media sooooo we're left with the YMCMB dick-riders. have you listened to the snippets of KD-MC? i already did, couldnt resist, and i think some of the samples were dope some were iffy but i'll wait for the whole thing.

Meek Millz is also somebody i really like but i fear each day Rozay just gains more and more influence on him (in a negative way) and makes him talk about the material bull-shit.

he adresses it here at the 3:00 mark. and hopefully he follows up with that and decides not to fake it even though he's "made it". (which was also a song of his.)
