Gregory van der Wiel

Right back has been a problem area for us for years. And it hasnt been helped by the mangerial revolving door, as different managers have come in with different tactics.

eg. Mourinho didnt like his full backs going past the half way line and now AVB excepts them to over lap and get crosses in, whilst making sure they get back to defend.

Ivan is NOT a right back, he's a CB who can do a decent job there but he prefers CB and has said so.

He's not the quickest, but is best at defending, but his crosses arent as good as Bose.

Bose is better at crossing, but more inconsistant at defending.

Sam - heart says yes, head says no, again he is not a SPECIALIST right back.

So as hopefully AVB is here for at least the 3 years, he will continue the search for the right player.

We know he will be 22-25 cos thats the AVB template.

I dont think VDW is the answer, in the games I have seen he fits in the Bose category, but then thats what good coaching and training is all about

Ivanovic is far more effective on the right back than centre back. I'd go as far as saying he's one of, if not the best right back in the PL.

So apparently his agent has told Valencia FC that Van Der Wiel would sign for another club.

For some reason i see him signing with us. I don't really rate him, but he is excellent going forward.

Not many good right backs available in the market.Should keep Iva as our first choice for right back,Paulo as our second and gradually play Hutchinson in that role.

A very risky move. IF Ivanovic gets injured, suspended or is used in CB because of injuries like now, we'll be stucked with Ferreira only. He's already 33 and can't expect him to still perform well everytime we play him. Regarding Hutchinson, we all do want to see him play in the starting XI but it all depends on whether he can recover fully from his injury problems. Until that happens, we definitely need a new RB in the summer.

He had one good season. He thinks he can play like Dani Alves but he is more akin to Dani Alves not playing for Brazil or Barcelona. The Bosingwa comparisons are too harsh, he isn't at that level...yet.

Wow, at people saying he's another Bosingwa. Just watch him at the European Championship this summer, maybe you'll turn around. He's way better defensively than Bosingwa could ever hope to be.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. We only bought Bosingwa because he impressed at Euros 2008 and look what has happened since then!

Remember, Bosingwa was a heck of a RB in his first season with Chelsea, but ever since those injuries he has never been the same :(

He was good under Scolari but even after the injuries he has had, there is still no excuses for his pathetic defending every time!

I think you're too harsh on that. His 1-on-1 defending is quite okay, but it's true that he isn't a defensive monster like Ivanovic.
