Sorry, but this post is just bizarre.

Did you forget where the assist for the only goal in the game came from?

Tbh that is exactly why Maresca criticized him last week or so. He demanded more assists and goals. Today it was the same. He could contribute to 3 or 4 goals tonight but was frustrating as hell in the box every time. And this is the reason why he lost starting spot to Neto.

We’ll probably play with Malo inverting like Cucu has been with Veiga being the more defensive fullback against Everton.

Winning and being able to capitalise on others dropping points is the cherry on top.

I'm grateful that naive moments (Tosin effectively gifting Mbeumo a goal to name the obvious one) in the final 10 minutes of the game didn't have an impact on the outcome in the end.

I don't want to tempt fate, but we could be sitting in a place next Sunday that most of us would have never considered in the slightest.

This last bit of resilience, composure and ultimately quality is all that is missing for us to win the league again. I was impressed with how patiently we ground them down as their defending und the first half was actually quite good. The last minutes however showed why we might not be able to see out tight wins vs top opposition yet. But seriously, if we go into the January transfer window anywhere near top spot, clownlake would be stupid not to go all in and buy a top quality, experienced CB and goalie to give us a real fighting chance to win it.

On the other hand why mess with a team that is winning? I would keep any purchases minimal personally, unless we see unique opportunities... Who is going to sell us a world class CB or GK in January?

Also, why are you calling them Clownlake? We are second in the fucking league under their management right now. Mistakes in the early days were under Boehly and since Clearlake kicked him out of the driver's seat and really took charge we've seen a pretty serious turnaround...

I’m so sick of hearing on here how he isn’t quite good enough yet and better players would bury any miss he has.

The utter nonsense needs to stop. He’s a top forward. Also he does so much off the ball which makes him even more valuable.

Agreed. He does miss some annoying shots but all of our great players did, people just forget...

Not many clear upgrades on NJ in the world. Haaland and who?

I do think we are short up front because Nkunku has not really banged and at any rate is not really a proper 9, and if NJ gets injured or has AFCON we will be short. But as competition / rotation for NJ, not replacement. He's one of the most promising signings we've made in years and only 23.

This is a similar point I was making in a diff thread: players have different characteristics, so if we replace Jackson with another player, who may even be more clinical in front of the goal, you lose certain qualities that Jackson has.

Jackson is really quick and difficult to take down. He's a surprisingly good short dribbler, and have gotten better at releasing the football at the right time when he makes his runs, which was the only real critique I had of his game (no he's not a great header of the ball). He's a good high presser, and seems to link up well with a number of players including Cole. It's easy to imagine Cole struggling a bit more if we'd replace Jackson with a more static striker, for example.

malo gusto was a bargain, tbh. 20M euros was a awesome deal

I don't know I thought he was not at his best today.

He was ahead of cucu but not cucu has excelled him.
