Osimhen wins us that game. Simple as that. 
 

Lavia, Fofana(considering when was his last game), Cucu were good.

Palmer, Neto, Nkunku, Colwill, Gusto were ok.

Sanchez, Enzo, Caicedo and Jackson below par.

City were average, but the early 1-0 helped them tons. We need at least 3 in a row after this one, if we are going to be comfortable top 4 team…

Gusto I agree with, though. That was pretty damned concerning from a defensive POV. Doku blasted past him repeatedly as if he wasn’t there. And Gusto has plenty of pace himself.

Yeah I’m not a huge fan of Caicedos game in general, so I usually need a bit more from him. He was doing better by the end of last season tho.

honestly I’d rather see Lavia and Enzo there. Always go with the more skillful players until balance stops you heh.

As much as people want to hate on him, I thought Enzo instantly looked more comfortable when he moved back deeper. When he’s got space and isn’t being constantly pressured he’s good. 

I’ll say again, PLAY HIM DEEP! Not against top teams of course, but against 80% of the PL opponents we should be playing him deep and letting him run the game like we did Jorginho.

We played against 50% power city at home.

We easily lost the game and barely challenged Ederson.

It looks like Chelsea playing under Poch or Potter or Lamaprd, nothing has changed.

If we will continue to play with Miss Jackson as out ST and with Enzo as our attacking midfielder, nothing will change.

I wonder if having a squad this deep does not make it easier to push players out; I mean to avoid litigation, for ex.

You can keep a group of players training separately simply for reasons of space in the facilities. Maybe I'm just looking for a silver lining. 🙂

I still can't understand Jackson at all.

The good: in his ruled out goal, he was in a great position considering where the shot was coming from and City's D was slightly asleep letting him be. He comfortably gets to the ball after the rebound and applies a good finish.

The ugly: he's fucking OFFSIDE during the entirety of the play! It's not like the D moved at the right time which caused him to be offside; their D never moved and Jackson just lazily stayed offside the whole time. WTF?!

I can imagine Maresca wasn't too happy with that (as well as the weird second finish) given he replaced him with a 18yo who hardly touched the ball in 30min of play.

If he could finish reliably he’d be amongst the best strikers in Europe. He does almost everything you ask of a striker well except he isn’t clinical. 

So what he should be is our backup striker behind an Osimhen. He’ll still get lots of games and plenty of minutes but we won’t have to depend solely on him for goals.

He can be exactly for us what Julian Alvarez was for City behind Haaland.

It's hard to know how these players will behave in the away games, but I do expect, given the options, that we will be able to apply pressure at all times when playing at SB. We simply can get fresher legs of about the same quality in the second half, which is something we were direly missing last season.

Yeah even a Striker of the same level would help getting him more focused. Speaking of which, the weird part is that the first goal was more about mentality and nothing else.

Regarding Alvarez, agreed as a striker option, except that Alvarez had the quality to play as CAM (as he did many times), and I don't see that quick and smart passing in Jackson's game at all.

But also, I’m encouraged by a lot of what I saw. Caicedo was excellent until that error on the goal, Lavia was the best midfielder on the pitch, the CB pairing today was relatively comfortable for the most part and not a shitshow like most expected. Neto I think will cook against most opponents with his directness. Cole was quiet but has barely trained with the team so he’ll get better and better.

I think we’ll be just fine once the games start coming and we build confidence. 

Something that is also clear is that Jackson is still ultra frustrating. He gets into such good positions but always fluffs his lines. I was just saying the other day that we shouldn’t panic and sign someone but perhaps we should just for insurance in case Nico misses loads of chances again like last season.

Nahhhhh exactly we won't finish near them and it's silly to expect otherwise. Just gotta do what we can with what we have...
