The Next Manager?

Recommended Posts

We've been linked with both Sampaoli and Simeone, but what strikes me as odd is they both have completely different footballing philosophies. Simeone is a 'win-at-all-cost' manger while Sampoali is an idealist, he wants his teams to play attacking football and to entertain the fans. In short, one is a Bilardismo (Simeone) "I learned competitive know-how from him (Bilardo) he is one of the managers who left his mark on me the most."

and the other is a Menottismo (Sampaoli)," I believe that the only way to succeed is by uniting players with a love of playing. You try to inspire in them a love of the shirt derived of enjoyment, not obligation. When you succeed in this individualistic society, it is by committing to something intangible, with humility. That allows everybody to come together; the social or cultural background of the people involved doesn’t matter."... How does Roman want Chelsea to play? if reports are to be believed he wants us to play attacking football while integrating youth, then it seems rather obvious to look for a manager that fits that profile, instead i bet we'll just hire any 'big name' manager who has a good CV completely disregarding whether they fit our needs.

I like this post on WAGNH about Lucien Favre --a manager whose Gladbach side were fun to watch. http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/2015/12/28/10670434/barcelondon-lucien-favre

Well this is what I think we need right now.

AVB would have been perfect but he came in too early.

At that time we should have had kept Carlo.

But that's gone, now I think this is the perfect time to try it again. Someone young with a vibrancy.

Don't want these past it guys like Mourinho, Guss, Carlo and all those.

Let's take a gamble with someone young like Barcelona did at the time with Pep and A. Madrid did with Simeone.

Seriously though. Getting fed up with these Mourinho cultists rewriting history, scapegoating Emenalo and acting as if Mourinho is the victim in all this while he was actually the architect to this nightmare of a season we're having.

There's no 'cultists', just Chelsea supporters. It's a little odd to use that as an insult when you're one of those people who feels the need to have an Emenalo avatar to fit in with others. That's not a criticism because you may well not be mindlessly following the crowd in doing that and sincerely want to celebrate the man for what he's done.

You'll also notice that it's not just Emenalo, but the entire board AND Mourinho who are receiving criticism. It would probably be those you might label 'cultists' who are looking at the situation in a more holistic manner than those who would call Mourinho 'the architect to this nightmare...'.

Also @ Ossie : Could you stop with this "we didn't back him" crap already ? It's ridiculous. I already posted it twice. We spent over 300 million euros on 13 players in the last 5 transferwindows. We backed him.

Backing a manager doesn't mean buying every single player he wants no matter how insane the transfer fee.

So what if he didn't get Pogba (Juve wanted 90 million euros for him) or Stones (Everton wanted over 50 million euros for him). That's not a valid reason for "leading" us to 1 point off relegation.

It's widely agreed that when you win the league, you need to improve the squad isn't it? You'll hear the 'two or three world class additions' point thrown around, to stop the club from stalling. That's just to retain the title, without looking at going further in Europe.

The club didn't do that. They didn't match the ambition of the coach and it's quite clear they didn't back him in a number of ways. The Cech situation is the obvious one where they went against his express wishes and sold him to a rival. You can't look at that situation and say they backed him, because they quite clearly didn't.

It's quite absurd for a club to not only not strengthen the squad in a summer transfer window, but to actually STRENGTHEN a direct rival in a position they've been struggling in for almost a decade. They undermined his position within the club and they made his job harder.

As for the thing where you take the focus off the summer transfer window by looking at average spend over five windows, I honestly don't think that will work with many Chelsea supporters. They know that the squad wasn't strengthened and that there were no REAL additions to the squad, only like-for-like changes.

Now none of that means we should've been in the position we were, but they are quite clearly factors and not 'crap' and they will be factors for the next coach, and the next coach, and the next coach unless something ABOVE the coaching position changes. That's not the opinion of a Mourinho cultist, but a fellow Chelsea supporter just like every other poster in this forum is.

Always thought it would be JT or lamps, not Drogba.

Think they still want to play another season or more.

DD could be an outside bet here......providing he gets his licenses.

Wouldn't be my choice as I would want someone there on merit as the same for any job on the coaching staff

But when City won their title they had a similar summer to us and they didn't fall apart like us.

They finished in top 4.

I don't get the idea that Chelsea are in such deep hole that it takes years to recover. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this time next year we're second in the Premier League and lamenting why we're not first. I didn't say that we are on top of the world last season when we were toying with the league, playing good football and making profit neither things gone completely south and we're at the bottom now.

We were making plus 150m€ offers for Stones, Griezmann and Pogba and we were actually the only club close to prize Pogba away from Juventus this past summer and the last one on that battlefield. If that's not sign of ambition I don't know what is. It's really only the case if club should go for 'cheaper alternatives' or stick to their clear targets.

We will recover and recover soon, really. Roman just ended Drogba's playing career by one phone call because he still undoubtedly cares.

The emenalo avatars are just a funny response to the ridiculous scapegoating of Emenalo by Mourinho cultists and yes i'm gonna continue to use that word because it's very fitting for you lot.

Also according to a lot of you he's the main reason Mourinho was fired so to me he's a freakin legend. (not serious, tongue in cheek moment)

Mourinho wasn't sacked for not retaining the title though. He was sacked for "leading " us 1 point off relegation.

No mate it's you who's trying to take the focus off the previous transferwindows and focus only on the summer transfer window.

We never sold any players that were starters under Mourinho. The only players we sold were squad players.

We did strenghten. We bought Willian, Matic, Fabregas, Costa, Pedro. I would classify those players as "real additions". We also bought Filipe Luis.

If Mourinho had actually played him instead of continuing with Azpi at left back Luis wouldn't have left and we wouldn't be forced to keep playing Ivanovic at right back.

"You'll also notice that it's not just Emenalo, but the entire board AND Mourinho who are receiving criticism"

When have you or any of the Mourinho cultists criticised Mourinho ?

The only thing i've seen from you guys has been something along the lines of "yes Mourinho isn't blameless but..." and then you guys give a whole list of excuses why Mourinho isn't to blame and then go on by blaming the players, the board, Emenalo basically everyone else, for the problems at this club.

I love that I'm apparently a Mourinho cultist. Makes me wonder what I was doing before he arrived at the club. Would it be fair if I called you an Emenalo cultist. Does your support predate his time here I wonder?

Actually don't answer that. It's not worth talking to someone who is disrespectful to fellow Chelsea supporters.

So if DD is being earmarked for the job, would you put this down as a tactical move by Chelsea to keep the support happy?

How very cynical of you. But I think it's a distraction. Why now? Why not 6 months ago?

Current manager doesn't have enough talent in his squad at Gladbach, but it's interesting how he uses Stindl as the CF/false 9.

Not long in this forum, but my previous forum (not banned, I just got fed up) had a great Rodgers thread. He provided so many quotes, he was box office. To think he'd come here would absolutely mortify me.

Love the match day thread seperatons here. Greatly done :)
