We could have hired Ake for 40 and we didn't because someone wants to burn 80 in Rice.

Meanwhile Christensen plays

I don't think Ake is any improvements over Andreas and Zouma. So no thanks.

AC has been quite good lately, and I refuse to put that red card on him, 100% it was on shitbox Kepa for horrid positioning which led to him not coming off his line properly. Again this should carry some weight, as I have been roasting AC for ages.

I thought he was excellent for a game and a half up till that moment, dare i say pre Barca self (don't want to speak to soon as i thought he was "back" after Baku). On a seperate note is he serving his ban tomorrow or at West Brom?

Possible return date: September 26 (vs. West Brom)

Andreas Christensen was sent off for hauling down Liverpool's Sadio Mane after a VAR review when the winger was through on goal at the weekend. As a result, the defender is set to serve a one-match suspension and will play no part in midweek.

Oh come on ... AC along with Zouma has been surprising better for us over last season. As rightly said if the 2 plays at this level then no point getting Ake plus Silva is still to start.

I really hope Mendy is better than Martinez as he just put in another very good performance tonight.

Honestly we dont want anyone to be better than anyone ... just need the player to do exactly what they should without making mistakes. All these are no where top 5 or top 10 so no point going into if this turns out to be better than this.

Starting to wonder if Lampard actually even knows himself what he wants...

Has Lampard EVER actually spoken ANYTHING about Rice. Do we have an actual footage of him saying that he wants Rice as a CB, or he wants Rice as a DM. What are we basing all of this on? Metro? Daily Fail? Sun?

Based on what has been reported by The Athletic...

The article claims that Lamps wants Rice.

Matt Law has re-iterated that we will try for Rice, Romano has, Phillips has. Multiple sources since the last month have said that we will be willing to hear offers for Kante and jorginho and replace them with Rice. So how is it that he has had a "re-think" about rice or even his position? Seems to me that Rice is viewed as a DM option since a long time.

Yes, it is not a secret that we want Rice but I was merely making the point on whether Lampard knows himself where he actually wants to play Rice because it was only not too long ago that he reportedly wants him as a CB and he supposedly wants him as a DM now. Am sure you may have seen the debates here about Rice in the CB role some weeks ago.

Also, Lampard ruled out selling Kante less than 2 weeks ago - https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/lampard-kante-fundamental-chelsea-inter-rumours/kikd377ff8b196044jhsaej4. As for Jorginho, well, it's all just rumors at the moment even if we want him gone. Lampard hasn't spoken anything about him in the public.

Regarding Kante - what is he supposed to say? "No Kante is for sale, please come and get him". You actually think ANY half-decent manager would say that? He also said Kepa is his no.1 GK and we got a new GK 2 days later. I mean seriously, aren't we clutching at straws now to bash FL.

Dont think Rice has been talked as a CB since we got Silva. Since we got Silva, all rumors and everything has been about Rice as a Kante/Jorginho replacement.

Plus I read an interview Rice gave saying his fave position was in MF.
The whole problems been we havent had a pre season so FL can even begin to get a idea of ALL the lads together to see WTF hes going to do, He has to use the games for testing which is shit.

I know managers say diplomatic things all the time but that doesn't mean they don't say the truth from time to time. With Kante, it feels to me like you're the one who strongly thinks he will be sold and wants to stick to that agenda even when Lampard has said he doesn't want to lose him. Moreover, Lampard has also gone beyond and above to praise Kante every single time when he doesn't need to and if you compare the comments about him not wanting to sell Kante and the ones on the CHO-Bayern rumors last week for example, there is a bit of a contrast there. He pretty much said "No, Kante isn't for sale" but somewhat left the possibility open about CHO potentially leaving.

As for Kepa, well, Lampard didn't say Kepa is his No.1 keeper. He just said he is our keeper and that we are bringing in competition. That was it.
