ZAPHOD2319 4,819
Spurs are only 6 points behind us, tied with ManU and Wolves. I doubt we want to strengthen their squad.

Special Juan 28,141
It really is laughable how it has got to this point on the 29th January after fighting to get a ban over-turned. Clubs ran by fucking arseholes. Atomiswave

This ain't Football Manager. It's quite clear most of our business will be done in the Summer. What that might be, is a mystery. Atomiswave 6,117
THis is taken from a another Chels forum: I keep reading people mentioning how they're prepared to stay put and wait for the summer because there's no value to be had in January, the transfer fees quoted are overly inflated, because clubs know we're a bit desperate, no point in signing new players just for the sake of signing, etc etc and I happen to agree with most of it. But the way I see it, each and every club's strategy and actions should be judged based on their needs, capabilities and circumstances they operate under. Liverpool and Man City, for example, don't have to sign anybody urgently, they're well stacked as it is, and can wait till summer to conduct their business. We aren't. On top of losing our best player and not being able to sign new players in the summer, we're still suffering from terrible transfer business of the last few years, where we spent a fortune on misfits, quite a few of them are so poor, they're currently out on loan because we have no use for them in the squad. What happened to our scouting, by the way? When was the last time we've uncovered a relatively unknown player for a modest fee who became an integral part of the team? Who was the genius who decided that wasting £300m on a collection of Drinkwater, Bakayoko, Zappacosta, Kepa, Morata, Batshuayi, Barkley, Emerson and Giroud was a good strategy? Who scouted Michy and didn't notice that he is sh*t at everything except shooting from inside the box? Or that Drinkwater is a midtable level footballer? Who dug up Zappacosta in the dying hours of summer of 2017, the same window when City bought Walker, Mendy and Danilo? Who is the expert who felt Bakayoko is worth 40m and is the player we should go after at Monaco when he was literally the least technically gifted player on that team? Who thought it was the risk worth taking to splash the world record fee for a goalkeeper on you-know-who? I know there are no guarantees but don't you think we've had way too many misses in the recent years than we did hits? Our shocking transfer business in the last three years or so is bigger reason for our current struggles than the transfer ban or even loss of Hazard. The board repeatedly failed to back the managers and by extension failed the supporters.
Jase 43,479
Not sure how reliable the fella is but according to him, Mertens doesn't want to leave and wants to stay at Napoli till the summer at least.

Do you really think a club like Real Madrid will let go their only backup ? they have been looking at a lot of strikers they do have Mariano Diaz as well, although they barely play him RM is clearly not happy with Jovic atm his returns are poor atm 1 goal, 2 assists in 675 minutes his only goal was versus Leganes, the worst team in the league if we had set up some deal, they could have had cover at least we should have tried a lot harder and earlier I do not believe he is a 5 to 8 goal a season striker at all
Special Juan 28,141
It's too frequent all this though, we have seen it for a few seasons now, this scratching around and panic buying. Where was the clubs vision based on the transfer ban been lifted? In any business you have a plan, a plan based on things not working out the way you had 'planned' They are letting managers down, which results in their sacking. It's alright saying summer is where the real business is done' but come the summer, and if we miss out on top 4 you can scrap half the names on the sheet you had penciled in, this is all part of the January window and buying reinforcements for the areas you see need it. I've said it before they are putting all their eggs in the Tammy basket and whether it be injury or goals drying up they are sadly mistaken. Season after season we fail to secure the so called targets and end up going for the shit scraps left on the plate. Is there any wonder why we are fucking miles behind City, Liverpool and soon to be Leicester in pushing back up the league?

Its just ridiculous tbh, for years the go to narrative the wait until their was a player worth it or in others words "don't sign more Baka/Zapas etc", now they're getting their wish all of a sudden that's the wrong way to do things after all. It is frustrating not getting another striker (or even a LB for that matter) but not half as frustrating as committing to another one who isn't of the required quality just to sign someone, that's one of the reason's were currently looking for another striker in the first place (we could have just ran down Remy's contract and brought ourselves time in the striker search instead of signing Michy). ulsterchelsea and Strike

Kun Aguer0 36
There's no sense in singing Mertens now. First 32 yo and the club politics is clear, no long term contract for a player over 30. He is 32 and probably wants a 2-3 year contract. He wouldn't accept loan deal probably imagine him flopping at this age, no one would want to sign him anymore (for some good salary ofc)... He was a great player back in the days, but that time is over... Vesper
