UEFA have confirmed Chelsea successfully balanced their transfer spending this summer to comply with the terms of a settlement agreement for breaking financial rules. Chelsea were fined €31m in July for breaking UEFA’s football earnings and squad cost ratio rules. As part of a settlement agreement, Chelsea could only register new signings for their Champions League squad if their transfer fees were offset by selling players who were in their Conference League squad last season.

The departures of players such as Noni Madueke, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson means Chelsea have been able to include new signings Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Alejandro Garnacho, Jamie Gittens and Jorrel Hato in their squad for the league phase of the Champions League.

Chelsea made a record £314m from selling 23 players this summer. They spent £296m on new signings to end the transfer window with a profit of £18m.

UEFA say they checked Chelsea’s Champions League squad to make sure it complied with their requirements: “The squad list submitted fulfilled the criteria of the settlement agreement and it was therefore already reviewed and approved before publication on UEFA's website.”

Chelsea are playing Bayern Munich, Benfica, Ajax, Qarabag, Barcelona, Atalanta, Pafos and Napoli in the league phase of the Champions League. Their first game is in Munich on Wednesday 17 September.

So if we signed Simons, we would have been over the cap?  😄

The extent of the ‘bomb squad’ isolations include having to use a seperate toilet, a different changing room and not being allowed to eat with any first teamers. The remaining ‘bomb squad’ members are Sterling, Disasi and David Fofana.

the not sorted list (my list and I am not listing potential sales of regulars like Enzo, Cole, Trevoh, or Tosin, as I want Wes Fofana sold before one of them)

Benoît Badiashile is shit and always injured
Axel Disasi is shit
David Datro Fofana
Raheem Sterling
Wesley Fofana I am NOT remotely convinced he will ever fully recover to a decent level of both play and injury
Tyrique George
Gabriel Slonina
Mykhailo Mudryk

plus the  loanees who are not good enough to ever be Chels Sr team:

Teddy Sharman-Lowe
Brodi Hughes
Caleb Wiley
Leo Castledine
Omari Kellyman (sure looks that way)
Jimmy-Jay Morgan
Deivid Washington

plus

Nico Jackson IF the obligation clause is not satisfied

Plus our 2 main GKers, Sanchez and Filip Jörgensen, one of whom surely needs to go when Penders comes in OR if we buy a better one (in which case both may go once Penders is ready to at least be the backup to a new GKer)

You realise that if we sell Tosin and/or Chalobah, we would have to replace them with locally trained players to have a full champions league squad

I just hope we don't rush Colwill back, let him recover properly as he'll be key for our defensive lineup.

I can’t picture any situation in which we sell Tosin or Trev. If CB’s are moved on next summer they’re going to be Fofana and Badiashile. Disasi will surely go in January.

Jorgensen I can see being more willing to stay and be #2 behind Lenders than Sanchez will be if that’s what the plan is.

The only one of our big players I could see going is Enzo if he has a mediocre season and both he and the club feel like he needs a change of scenery.

💥SportBild revelation
Fuss about Xavi Simons:

Princess" in the dressing room
Within the team, Simons is said to have been nicknamed "Princess" because of his airs and graces. He also refused to be kitted out together by kit supplier AlphaTauri.

Missed Verstappen appointment: Following a syndesmosis tear, Simons traveled to the Red Bull rehab center in Los Angeles in November 2024. A meeting with Formula 1 star Max Verstappen was planned there. But Simons didn't show up - allegedly due to too many fans in Las Vegas.

Dog on roof terrace: During an international match trip with the Netherlands in March, his dog is said to have spent several days alone on the roof terrace of his Leipzig apartment. Residents wanted to call animal welfare and the police. RB intervened and the animal was later taken abroad.

Fire alarm due to hairspray: A few days before the Bayern game in May, his hairdresser accidentally set off the fire alarm at the training center - the hairspray was so intense that the fire department was called.

Favela party: On a PR trip to Brazil, Simons had the team bus driven into a favela because he wanted to introduce new "friends" there. Security forces stopped the action immediately and his team-mates reacted angrily.

Xavi Simons bid farewell to RB Leipzig with just a word and a smiley face in the club's internal WhatsApp group.
