Just because you found something on the internet does not mean it's true. And I am not saying he definitely is not earning that, just seems highly unlikely.

To prove my point, i just put "oblak wages" on google, first result was the following.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2821923-jan-oblak-atletico-madrid-agree-on-new-contract-until-2023

"AS' Manolete reported in February that Oblak was set for a deal that will earn him an annual salary of around €10 million (£8.7 million)."

Don't you think it seems more likely he's earning those wages, versus the ones you listed previously?

I said the same thing. Just seems so weird. Especially given ATM's wage bill is far lower than ours.

Oblak is impossible. And after a mega outlay on one failed keeper I doubt we'd ever do that again. People need to get Oblak out of their hands. Even if we did want him he's at the absolute perfect club right now under the perfect manager. Doubt he has any desire to leave.

Not saying we will sign Oblak but he may fancy a new challenge and it's not like Atletico Madrid often win trophies anyway.

He is the reason why we signed Kepa lol.
We wanted to trigger his release clause and he said no to us and now he wants to come?

the ones I quoted

as the source of yours is shit

and it is ONE source

the ALWAYS lying AS

they rival Don Balon for the worst made up shit in Spain and Bleacher report is simply quoting them

and in their own article they say a between €150m to €200m release clause, which is just a flat out lie

plus they do not even given an exact figure on his wage, they say 10 to 12m euros

this below is GROSS salaries

I edited my post above to reflect it is gross

I do not know why that other site said he nets it, other than they they misused the term to mean something it doesnt

but the figures match, dead on

20.8m euros per year gross

that works out (at today's FOREX rate) to £363K per week gross pay, ie, how we always discuss salaries here and how they are always reported in the major outlets

AS was just spitballing his NET salary (they said 10 to 12 m euros per year so did not even give an exact figure)

I am not going to get into net salary as I would have to have far more information on how his deal would be structured (due to different tax laws and the actual distribution of pay)

Football's Role in the Spanish Economy

Megan Pitman & Mason Milne

Introduction

One of the most important aspects of society is sport, and football is the most popular sport in the world. People of every age, race, and gender can participate, whether its through playing, coaching, watching, and more. Because of its prominence in so many different categories and different lives, football plays an extremely vital role in the economy. With an abundance of successful professional teams and a powerful league, Spain's economy is especially influenced by football.

Economic Impact

Spain sees a multiplier effect in the contributions to their economy. Numerous sectors are positively affected by this sport. Ranging from catering, transportation, and bars/restaurants, football has been a crucial factor in economic success.

We just shared quotes from Atletico assistant Burgos where he said: The russian wants to take Oblak.

And Simeone also said like day before something like he hopes Oblak continues with them.

Why would they say this? It is like they are preparing fans maybe for his departure?

And this russian thing is easy to assume it is Chelsea. We need GK and can not see Monaco going for Oblak

So basically our interest is confirmed from Tier 0 source and surely Roman and Marina know his salary and if they are still after him it is not a problem for them.

I corrected it, his gross is £363K PW, the table had the correct salary (20.8m euros per year) but it called it net, when it was gross

I just went back and sorted out a lot of posts

sorry for the inconvenience

it still is a massive amount

Damn that’s fucked up. Even at clubs like Atletico which are not exactly bathing in cash the wage bills have exploded. Thank fuck no one from our players is close to that top 25. A salary cap may be a sensible idea after all

This is so weird. We were begging Atletico to take morata and costa off us when no one else would and they be like “yeah sure, here are 50m and another 400k per week just to make sure they join”

costa even states that he only wants to go to Atletico and morata had ruined his rep still Atletico get bent over for wages. Something is fishy

Jesus. I didn't know Atleti could pay those sorts of wages. I always thought of them as sort of a medium sized club like Spuds that pay decent wages but nothing crazy like the very big clubs do.

billionaire owners and huge global fanbase and revenues

they are a monster club

they just always get compared to the two biggest sporting teams in the world (RM and Barca)

Atleti isn't even a massive, globally supported club. And Lá Liga payouts aren't nearly what PL payouts are, right? How can a club pay wages like that then?

yes, they are globally supported and get massive revenues, they were tracking to almost €400m net revenues this fiscal year until COVID hit

for fiscal year 2018-19 they had €367.6m

People needs to forget about Oblak...

It ain't happening not with lots of position to improve....I would rather sign a very good back up ala Cakir or Rajkovic that wont cost massive amount capable of displacing Kepa if he continues to shit himself and go for monster CB like Milan Skrinian or Nikola Milenkovic than just blow all the money on a keeper...

Thank you for taking the time to dig into it.

You know as well as me how erroneous information can be shared all over the net by all kind of different sources, some more reliable than others. What those sites usually do is just quoting themselves. Just because i read it on "sillyseason", "soccerladuma!" or "prezi" will not make me buy into it more.

The most legit of the lot would be capology (maybe?), never heard of them and i have no idea of how reliable they are. I tried to find more about them, and by the looks of it, they have been reporting some weird stuff if true (have a look at the below). In the end and as far as i know, there isn't really any reliable website reporting on wages, its often just based on leaks and speculation.

Where i'm getting at with this is that neither you or I really know how much Oblak is earning, and that's a fact. All i know is that it strikes me as highly surprising that he would actually earn those wages, which is why i just don't believe it's accurate.

With that being said, if those numbers are true, we should stay the hell away from him, giving him such high wages would completely disrupt the club's wage structure.

sure, use some rando off reddit whose own link doesn't show what he claims to try and do another FUD post

you can believe what you want, but even your own link (AS) from before puts Oblak at 10m to 12m euros per year NET

lets take the middle number

€11m per year net

that is £10m per year

The top tax bracket in Spain is 45% for 2020

this is from KPMG, the 4th biggest accounting firm in the world

https://home.kpmg/xx/en/home/insights/2011/12/spain-income-tax.html

a7f5f4636f5e55a3235e14a95eb4aa22.png

if €11m is 55% of his gross salary, the his gross salary is €20m

multiple major sources say his gross salary is €20.8m

that puts his net (at the 45% tax bracket) at €11.44m which is between €10 and 12m per year (so within the range your own article states)

€20,8m in pounds is

£18.91m per year (at current FOREX rates)

or

£363,653 per week in gross wages

you can chose to believe that or not

it is taking your own article and showing that the numbers fit within its construct
