Arsenal face paying a higher fee for Benjamin Sesko this summer as his release clause with RB Leipzig has increased ahead of the summer transfer window.

Sesko is one of Arsenal’s top striker targets ahead of the summer window alongside Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres.

However, Mikel Arteta’s side face strong competition with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea also monitoring the 21-year-old’s progress in the Bundesliga.

Sesko, who has scored 13 goals in the Bundesliga this season, is available this summer due to a variable clause in his deal with RB Leipzig which is linked with his appearances, goals and assists for the German club.

According to Sky Germany, the clause started at £49.5 million (€60m) but it is now in excess of £66m (€80m) ahead of the summer window.

You have to admit it's a bit contradictory to say you don't believe in the club's approach to recruitment and that, instead, you're excited about players who were signed precisely because of that approach.

For these two players in particular they feel much less risky. One looks like a generational talent and the other is now battle tested in a solid league and will come back to the club in a position where we’re well stocked.

What I’m disliking about the clubs approach is that we’re ONLY targeting players like this and not supplementing the team with experienced buys.

I do want to point out that we're only a few points behind the likes of Arsenal who were supposedly in the title race this year at the start... Also City who are a top class team.

People are making it seem like we're 7 to 8 decent signings away from competing, but in reality, we are a few good signings away from pushing up the top. A top quality CF and a defensive signing or two.

I know people don't like Sanchez, but I feel even he will look a lot safer with better defenders in front of him as well.

The problem people have is the way in which it could have been so much simpler and this situation not happening at all. Forget Arsenal and City this is about us and how we have completely dropped our standards, threw games away and gifted teams easy wins because we lack pride and passion for the badge and themselves.

if we are to actually compete against the big PL sides, we need a GK, at least 1 quality leader at CB and a proper striker.

He's still a rubbish keeper and wouldn't be #1 choice at any other top 6-8 PL side.

People forget that the Brighton manager lost faith in him and made him 3rd choice keeper at one point....and we still have him on the books as our so called #1 keeper 😆

that December/January run really cost us in the end.  Draw with Everton, loss to Fulham, loss to Ipswich, draw to Palace, draw to Bournemouth.

Tragic of the highest order.

Not even good sides either, says something when the main highlight of the season was coming from 1-0 down against Fulham to get a last minute winner

We were a few signings away last summer and the board has a summer where they spend £200million +, make 11 signings and only Neto has had any effect on our team.

Felix, Sancho, KDH, Jorgensen, Tosin, Guiu, Kellyman, Anselmino, Veiga, Wiley is a complete waste of a summer

Even if we had just signed a CF who could fill in for Jackson, we'd have locked up top 4 by now

I am genuinely not bothered in the slightest seeing these Delap to United advancing reports. This would probably sound like sour grapes to a United fan, but I think he will massively underwhelm there just like their last two striker signings Zirkzee and Hojlund. I think his work rate and tenacity will be an improvement for them but in terms of putting up actual numbers I don’t see it.

I’d be very happy if they got him rather than Osimhen as was rumored.

Osimhen is 26 and had 2 good seasons, one of them in a dogwater league... Is there a particular reason people are acting as if he is a surefire thing?

Provided we get a quality striker in his prime

Guiu doesn't really belong in this. Sure he is raw but he has been OK when he has played was showing signs he may kick on. Getting injured when he did was incredibly unfortunate.

That said, he should've been brought as CF3 with development minutes in the youth teams and/or loaned. Not our CF2 - although I do think Nkunku was thought to be able to contribute there. However, you're right in that Neto is the only player that made sense and he should've been followed by more established players.

  • Fabrizio Romano: “EXCL: Real Madrid have sent formal contract proposal to Dean Huijsen and his camp today, talks ongoing to sign Spanish CB. Negotiations continue while Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool remain ready to enter the race in case of complications. Real remain player’s priority.”

  • Real Madrid have also been in talks with Bournemouth about Huijsen’s £50m release clause structure and instalments. Bournemouth have approved Real Madrid conditions for the Huijsen deal with the defender’s £50m release clause to be paid by the end of 2026. The deal can now be considered done between the clubs. Final green light still needed to proceed and seal the deal with the player’s camp.

  • Romano adds: “Xabi Alonso asked Real Madrid to accelerate on Dean Huijsen deal as ideal quick solution for a top talent… …as Premier League clubs wanted to get the deal done already last week, but Dean decided to wait and give priority to Real Madrid. Key meeting took place on Monday.”

  • Rodrygo Goes: “Thank you for all your messages and concerns. I’ll be back soon. Stop making things up.”
