In his mind (and most peoples minds before this past season where he dropped a level) he’s a superstar who deserves superstar wages. And tbf, “elite” goal scorers are rare and command huge wages. So I don’t really blame him for refusing to drop his salary.

He scored more than 15 goals in Seria A once in 4 seasons, a league where grandpas like Giroud still scoring for fun. Guy needs his head checked if he believes he is elite. Besides the fact these numbers are bang average, he isn't even a fit beast. Edited August 15, 2024 by TheHulk

Really weird how these Italian clubs (even the biggest ones) are all broke as a joke yet have these star players on mega wages. Like when Juve were paying CR7. Pizy 18,953
Ugo on loan to Southampton is a potentially great move for him. If they actually use him every match that could be massive for any future he has back here. If he does well but we don’t end up needing him we can probably get the Saints to buy him for £40m or something. mkh

Really weird how these Italian clubs (even the biggest ones) are all broke as a joke yet have these star players on mega wages. Like when Juve were paying CR7. A few years ago, Italy became concerned with their brain drain and tweaked their tax laws to combat this. It was a 5-year tax break to skilled workers who moved to Italy, whether it was Italians returning from abroad or people from other places entirely. The idea was to tempt talented people to settle in Italy, spending money and creating jobs. The was a part that applied to football, which allowed players and coaches who haven’t worked in Italy for the previous two years, whether native Italians or not, to pay taxes on just 50% of their incomes rather than the usual 100%. This meant that in Italy, the clubs offer salaries to their players based on the amount they will receive after tax, which is why the media in reports those amounts in after-tax terms, as opposed to the UK who report the salary before tax. This meant Italian clubs could afford to pay good wages to their players. The law ended earlier this year. Neres and Lukaku don’t play the same position and aren’t similar even a little bit. https://football-italia.net/napoli-lock-down-neres-Chelsea-wait-lukaku/ David Neres now, Lukaku later With that in mind, Sky Sport Italia and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano both report that Napoli are tired of waiting and will use that cash for David Neres. He will cost €28-30m including add-ons and can be ready to undergo a medical as early as Monday, with the player travelling over the weekend. Neres was already left out of the Benfica squad for this weekend’s game because the move was known to be imminent. While Lukaku remains a target for the Partenopei, Antonio Conte will have to wait a little longer for this reunion.
