Can't wait for the inevitable Mourinho to Chelsea links in the next few weeks when we draw/lose two games in a row.

Its amazing how many people still want Jose despite getting sacked at Chelsea twice, Failing at United (26 points after 17 games when he was sacked), failing with Spurs, leaving Roma in 9th, having a terrible record with youngsters.

"At least he will motivate these youngsters" sounds like the vibes argument people make when making nostalgia appointments like Jose, Lampard, Gerrard. We need a tactician - imaginative and able to coach attacking patterns.

Who is that? I seriously cannot think of anyone, outside of Benz that fits the profile. I do understand he is a bit of a idiot, but sometimes you to accept things in order to improve.

Additionally, I am not that certain he is actually complettly washed. His game wasn't based on his physical traits and he won the Ballon in 2022. Madrid also would've kept him if he hadn't wanted the money - which I can even understand, would you turn down 15× your wage?

I've mentioned Muriel almost every window. He fits the profile for the way we're trying to play and wouldn't cost much.

Benzema's biggest game over the last few months was in the CWC, in which he was dire (missed a PK to boot). I personally think we ought to stay clear, regardless of whether there's any chance of this happening.

I don't want him as much as the next person, but he has only "failed" at Spurs. That could have been different had he remained in charge of the cup final. The youngsters thing is something I mentioned to a friend shortly after his dismissal was announced, that there was no chance of that happening for the stated reason. Our team would be his worst nightmare to work with.

I don't think he 'failed' at United, won them a European trophy and also had them in the top 3 of the league table until things fell apart after his fight with Pogba/Martial.   He also won a European trophy for Roma.

I'm not saying that he'd fit at Chelsea right now but someone like a younger version of Mourinho (new ideas, winning mentality, wants to prove himself against the better teams, enjoys the challenge) would be interesting with the current youngsters we have in and around the first team.

Unfortunately Poch won't lead us to anything, it'll always be 1 step forward and 2 steps back under him as the youngsters have nothing to aspire to.  At least if it was young Mourinho, you know there's a pedigree of winning from his FC Porto days, or if its Conte, you know he's going to kill you in training and make you work hard and suffer until you play his way.

Chelsea striker links and the latest on Mauricio Pochettino’s job safety

There’s still no movement on a striker for Chelsea, as they’re still waiting to see what happens with Christopher Nkunku. Chelsea remain optimistic over his injury, but they are waiting for more clarity on the situation.

Still, Chelsea also feel it looks complicated to sign a striker this January - it’s not easy to find a striker for Chelsea’s level, so they are still exploring options and we’ll see what happens.

Despite links with Karim Benzema and Roberto Firmino, I don’t think it’s going to be that easy to sign players like this on loan from Saudi clubs. I know there have been a lot of stories, but I’m told there’s nothing concrete or advanced - Al Ittihad also have a new director now to take care of the situation, so let’s see the next steps of this story in the next few days.

With Firmino I think it’s a case of him being offered to clubs, but it’s not more concrete than that yet. We’ll have to see if Chelsea find someone they really want or if they decide to wait until the summer transfer window.

In terms of outgoings, Trevoh Chalobah seems to have a preference for staying in the Premier League. He wants to play regularly in England, it’s really important for him to play. I’m told there will be contacts today or tomorrow to discuss his options, but I still see him leaving Chelsea this January.

Chelsea have decided to trust Mauricio Pochettino and his job remains safe. In general, the situation looks good, even if it can still improve, but the club and the directors want to give him time. My feeling is that their idea is to continue with Pochettino until at least the end of the season, and then at the end of the season they will talk with him and we’ll see.

Barcelona still going strong for Lucas Bergvall

In a recent update, Matteo explained that Barcelona were going to up their offer for Lucas Bergvall, the hotly pursued Swedish midfielder, who has been linked not only with Barcelona, but also Manchester United, Juventus and Inter Milan. Here are their strongest competitors.

The team that has the best chance of signing Bergvall is Barcelona, because they have a major advantage in their favour - the desire of the player. Bergvall is prioritising signing for Barcelona.

In recent months, Barcelona submitted an offer for €5m, but they are going to present an offer that comes close to €10m, including variables. Barcelona will try to offer that amount because they know the team that has offered the most is Eintracht Frankfurt, around €10m. So Barcelona want to offer close to that. But Bergvall has told Djurgardens clearly that he wants to go to Barcelona.

A number of teams have asked about him, because he is one of the most talented of the 2006 generation in Europe, Inter presented an offer, Udinese asked, Manchester United asked, but the two teams that are closest are Barcelona and Eintracht Frankfurt. Barcelona will up their offer in the coming days.

Mitrovic and Firmino are also in the Saudi league
