But I don’t think we can do wrong with either. If we can somehow clear out ALL of RLC, Gallagher, and reluctantly let Kova or Kante leave then one of Ugarte or Caicedo PLUS Lavia would be incredible. But with the striker likely taking up a huge part of the budget as well as goalkeeper I can’t imagine us spending another £100m or more in midfield after doing so on Enzo. Think it’ll be just 1 new midfielder so we better nail that choice whomever it is. Caicedo a better footballer for sure, but I can't help but feel Ugarte is what we need. A traditional DM. You also have to see Enzo at Benfica and for Argentina, and he thrives best next to a DM. Caicedo is just a complete CM. kexik and Pizy

Yes, strictly in terms of statistical profile Ugarte probably makes more sense. But as you say Caicedo looks like he has more to his game. He’s easier on the eye and a better all around footballer. He very much reminds me of prime Kante though obviously not as good yet. Not someone who is a pure DM but more of a roamer. If one of our rivals gets Caicedo he’s going to be a massive pain to go against for years. Reddish-Blue, Strike and Fernando 2

Jorginho left and if we let both Kante and Kovacic go we would not have any left. Mount is also leaving, possibly Gallagher as well. That leaves us with: Enzo 22 Casadei 20 Santos 19 CC 19 (don't think he can play in pivot anyway) And new MF will also be young Lavia, Ugarte, Caicedo... I don't have a problem with one of them being in pivot starting with Enzo regardless age but are we really gonna have only these kids on the bench when realistically all should probably go on another loan? With only PL and Poch playing 4231 having 4 midfielders is ok. But it should be Enzo, new MF, Kante/Kovacic and one youngster. So if we cannot extend Kante just keep Kovacic even if that means losing him for free next summer. PSG only paid £15.5m for and they want to sell him he is a really solid player, I have followed him for ages

ZAPHOD2319 4,818
Sporting Lisboa beat Vizela 2-1, with Franco Israel and Sebastián Coates starting. Manuel Ugarte was on the bench, he did not see minutes waiting for his future for the transfer period. His arrival at Chelsea could be confirmed next week. lucio

The funniest part is...an injured Hazard would still be the best attacker at Chelsea right now....that's how far our standards have fallen since his departure to Madrid I do wonder what the club does with someone like Havertz as he won't be a 15+ goal a season striker for Chelsea and even Mudryk has looked horribly off the pace (so far), feel like Pochettino is in for a rough ride with our rubbish attack. At least he had Kane + Son at his previous club to score goals and get results

I wouldn't say terrible management, we just buy players that don't really fit together. Signing Pulisic, Morata, Ziyech, Havertz, Mudryk, Sterling for 40+ million each...not to mention Lukaku for 90+ million in consecutive seasons is just poor transfer judgement. Only Lukaku had shown that he could consistently score goals, the rest of them were always known for their inconsistency and I doubt many people had actually seen Mudryk play for his previous club before we got the news out of the blue that we were hijacking the Arsenal deal (that they had been working on for 2-3 months). I guess I’d include transfer policy and lack of planning as part of the management off the pitch and training ground too. Our coaches have been very willing to sacrifice all our attacking play for “solidity” , tuchel even admitted it. but I don’t disagree , buying lukaku when he was completely unsuited for our style and system was ridiculous Edited May 27, 2023 by lucio Reddish-Blue
Pizy 18,907
I know I said yesterday that Ugarte doesn’t really wow you when just watching highlights. But….when you watch the videos of him against individual big clubs he looks incredible. I’ve just watched him physically dominate the midfields of Juve, Arse, Spuds, and Benfica. And he’s much better technically than I initially gathered from his compilation videos. This kid could form a truly special partnership with Enzo. Hope we manage to beat our rivals to him. He’d be a major signing for any PL club.
