Yeah, I just got done watching some footage of him at City from last season and it was VERY underwhelming. He looks like your average PL defender who you’d see at a midtable side. Nothing standout about him at all.

He’s not quick, he’s not physically dominant, he’s just average on the ball, I didn’t really see any passing range or distribution in his highlights so it must not be particularly good.

I guess we just have to trust Tuchel’s judgement here.

I have no idea how big of a bearing HG quota plays nowadays, but aside from that aspect, it seems like we're almost buying him for the sake of it. It's highly unlikely he'll improve, so we have to be content with the player he is now.

Koulibaly should have always been our number one CB target when assessing the available options this summer. I guess there's still time for things to change, though.

Tha's not even the question.

Did they buy a washed up 27 year old who has not played regularly for years and has not developed at all?

Salah and KDB were always good players, sold bc of a short-term manager and who made great progress as players. They were signed before entering their peak years and put in a system tailor made for them. Nothing of this holds for ake

Still have no clue how Barca are paying for Dembele’s wages, adding Raphinha’s wages on top of his huge transfer fee, potentially adding Lewa’s wages on top of huge transfer fee, want Azpi + Alonso who are on big wages, and then also want Koundé who will be on big wages + big transfer fee.

For a club up to their eyeballs in debt and begging their current players to slash their wages. Economic “levers” or not, it’s all so fishy.

That's my point. Why pay £50m for a fourth choice player like Ake when you can buy Koulibaly for €30m.

Apparently bc ake can play lb (terribly), is homegrown and left footed

apparently when you check those it is irrelevant that you suck at football

This.

People want us to integrate Colwill and have him develop, yet at the same time want a players like Kimpembe or Gvardiol who would both start the majority of the matches. Ake is a good squad player to have and it will allow Colwill to easily displace him should Colwill fulfill his potential.

Having a poor or mediocre back line is worse than having a mediocre attacking lineup.

We are more likely to drop out of top 4 because of it.

The only plus side for me if we signing Ake really is some of us can trawl through our attics for our Gullit wigs and might come across something more valuable.

I had one as a kid when we signed Ruud!

Will have to speak to my mum and see if it's still around in her house somewhere, I can hand it down to my boy haha.

July 8th and nothing. I'm depressed, I'm not going to come back here for a while.

I wonder if Tuchel will get fed up and leave after a bad season because we didn't help him improve the squad. We just bought duds and more duds.

Part of his job to recruit players too. They're playing for him so if we fail this window then he deserves some blame.

Seems like we're ready to negotiate and spend.
