Barcelona won't sign Azpilicueta, who will extend for 2 more seasons at Chelsea.

 

Azpilicueta wanted to have his future sorted before the start of PL. Barcelona asked him to wait a bit so they can solve the FFP issue with La Liga. In the end, he decided to extend at Chelsea. He has informed Xavi about it this morning.

Azpi runs the danger of damaging his legacy if stays here and performs poorly but he should definitely be allowed. He has been a great servant and deserves to see out his career here under the right conditions I.e. reduced role and salary. 
In no way should he ever play rwb again tho . And also not a back 3 with Thiago and Cucurella

So that’s probably Azpi starting as the right sided CB for the foreseeable future until we sign another CB, then. Someone who has looked past it for 18 months now. 😒

Never would’ve imagined we’d be starting the new PL season with Azpi or Chalobah as first choice players still. I guess Azpi playing at CB is slightly better than him playing wingback…

People complaining about Dave staying need to get a grip. He will fall into the Milner type role where he is a bench player and comes on for 20 mins in tough games where we need to grind out results. 

Dave is a top, top professional, can play multiple positions and is experienced. Players like that are always valuable.

Yuck. One of Ruben’s most annoying traits is his awareness (or lack thereof). In midfield he gets caught napping or just slowly jogging around nonchalantly. Having him do that as a wingback for any extended length of time sounds terrible.

It was always probably unrealistic to expect us to sign another super expensive LWB in Cucurella as well as a new RWB. But it leaves us pretty short of quality if James does a hammy or something again.

You can’t have two world class players for one position 🤣

if Haaland does a hammy  ,city must sign a new haaland ? This is football you should have and luck in your team

Actually from what i've seen and heard Haaland's 'back up' is a lot more suited to Pep's style.

If we sign fofana actually I don’t care about azpi he will be benchwarmer. 
If Reece James gets injured  we have and challobah for Rwb position .

Chalobah is a good second choice he is a good defender not perfect but ok

If Haaland does his hammy they also bought Alvarez who some think will eventually be even better.

But anyways, we didn’t need to sign some top class new RWB to backup James. Just someone who can actually run, contribute a little to the attack, and not get ripped apart in open space defensively. Azpi has looked really poor for a while now. He’s still capable of the odd class performance, yes.
