They would be. They need another CB. Got rid of Sule. Upemecano has been average and needs a leader next to him. Hernandez and Pavard are make shift Cb also.

Like Sterling, de Ligt seems like one Tuchel really wants. Losing out on him would be hugely damaging. A young CB that grows with the team for years and years.

Now we’d have to turn to much more short term solutions.

The Telegraph article by Matt Law literally says no progress is currently being made regarding Ronaldo until Tuchel has been heard. The club have no idea what he'd cost and how much he'd demand in wages, not even if United are willing to sell him at all.

The same article also says the club are hoping to have two new signings confirmed before heading out for pre-season tour on Saturday this week, and working on those deals takes priority on any potential pursuit of Ronaldo. So hopefully it will be Sterling and a defender done this week.
