You just can't get away with that in a midfield pairing, especially one in the PL. Look at the stark contrast between him & Caicedo since joining in terms of overall effort. Sadly don’t think he’s suited to an intense league or an intense style of play. Fully believe he will be awesome for the right club in the right league. They’re having one of the best transfer windows ever to add to a side that already walked the league. Wirtz, Frimpong, Kerkez, Guehi. They have their long term goalkeeper in place for when they allow Alisson to walk with Mamardasvili. And after they sell Darwin Nuñez soon they’ll use that money to probably get Ekitike or Gyokeres. This is what a club that has their shit together from the top down looks like. They’re going to get all of their business done early in the summer and they’re all quality, proven players who will go straight into their starting XI with the exception of the keeper. Meanwhile, we’ve been in the “considering” phase for weeks now and haven’t heard about a single deal making any sort of progress since Delap was signed. Nahhh agree. Their squad was already strong and theyre just adding to it. We need a proper goalie for starters before we can compete! Liverpool unfortunately aren't our rivals atm No point keep buying players to loan out! They need to look at what we need now not produce players to sell which unfortunately seems to be their business model.

I really like him as a personality, his passion on the pitch, and at his best he’s great. But man, he just fails repeatedly in matches against opponents who are very aggressive and intense. On the ball he’s super careless with it and off the ball he’s so painfully slow that it looks like he’s running in cement boots. When he was at Benfica you saw him playing deeper as sort of that tempo controlling midfielder spraying it around and creating magical chances. We saw that initially when he moved here as well. I remember an early Liverpool game where he completely destroyed them single-handedly and ran the show. These days Maresca deploys him so high up that he is often seen pressing all the way to the keeper. For me he needs to play in an area where he has space and can see everything in front of him. Having him high up takes away his passing and vision when we’re attacking and it makes us super vulnerable when the ball is turned over defensively. It’s the exact sort of issue we had with both Fabregas and Jorginho at times. The difference with those guys was Cesc had generational passing skills and creative vision and J5 was immaculate with the ball and impossible to dispossess. Enzo is neither. For the first time ever I actually find myself wondering if we should listen to an offer if Madrid comes in for him as is rumored. That game under Poch? First game of that season? He played as the more advanced midfielder out of the pair of him and Gallagher then also IIRC because Liverpool pressed CG whenever he got the ball and made it really uncomfortable for him as Enzo was positioned slightly higher up the pitch. The physicality and intensity has always been his issue. It’s never going to change. You cannot be a £100m+ plus midfielder and not be able to run and compete physically these days. The amount of average footballers who are very good athletically that can just run over you these days if you aren’t at it is incredible because you need to be of a certain athleticism to play in modern day football now due to the nature of how quick, direct and transitional it is. But even deeper he isn’t switched on enough to hold his position and see danger as we seen with Potter & Frank using him as a 6 often. He has just come off a good season in terms of goals and assists so would assume he’s safe but if anyone offers anywhere near to what we got him for, I’d take it. Particularly Madrid. I genuinely reckon Modric at his current age is quicker and more athletic than Enzo Fernandez ever will be. The deal did not go through, however this hasn’t stopped Chelsea fans taking to social media to beg for their club to bring the Frenchman in as a result of this game. One user said: “The fact some of you defended the club not signing Maignan is crazy, JUST LOOK AT SANCHEZ.” Sanchez is a big problem but Diet Pep is a much bigger problem. Before he goes we cannot even discuss individual players. If you want to look at a proper manager, just look at Conte (who gets clowned) he literally turned Victor Moses into a PL team of the year player by playing to his strengths. Yet, Diet Pep had Palmer move 10-20 yards up the pitch to play sideways and backwards - so that we keep possession better - and Sanchez is the biggest problem. Literally 1984 shit. I said during the game a few hours ago that Lavia (or I guess Santos or Essugo now) NEED to be on the pitch if Maresca is going to play Enzo so high up. The protection of Caicedo + another is needed to mask Enzo’s lack of mobility. Maresca wants to play him further up against small team who we can dominate then fine. But against teams like we saw today who press and run like maniacs he is an extreme liability who negatively affects everyone else around him. Mate, until people realise Caicedo is a 6 and not a 4 (or a 4/6 combined) and Enzo is a luxury hybrid 8/10, we are always going to get overrun in CM. But against teams like we saw today who press and run like maniacs he is an extreme liability who negatively affects everyone else around him. I think having one of Lavia/Santos/Essugo (Essugo must be the next one the fan base raves about based off a handful of games) with Caicedo in midfield is something we wont see with Maresca. Unless Caicedo is playing as a RB. But then defeats the our pose. There are plenty of technically gifted footballers out there who are athletic and adept tactically though. Fernandez may be potentially as good as anyone out there with the ball but he is probably one of the most tactically unaware and lethargic looking midfield players I’ve seen in a while in a Chelsea shirt. He is kind of like our own version of Pogba in a way. Talented for sure, really inconsistent and really doesn’t give anyone a clear idea where his best position is or what his role in the team actually is. Improved his output last season a lot but again, how many stand out games did he play where anyone thought he looked what he’s been billed up to be? His goals and assists will get him some slack for last season and maybe rightfully so - but for this potentially great all round midfielder that he was meant to be coming in from Benfica, that “we couldn’t afford to miss out on” & that Eghbali/Boehly wanted desperately after the WC final, I really cannot remember many games against really decent teams where he really got to grips with it and ran the game for us. I am sure Poch also played him higher up a lot 2 seasons ago which didn’t really do much for his improving his consistency or defining his role in the team. I think the next 12 months is really really big for him. It may define whether or not he continues to be an enigma to us or actually becomes a really consistent footballer. When certain games/moments get more difficult, he needs to do more without the ball in terms of being competitive and aggressive. He is far too good at disappearing when things don’t go our way or the game gets that bit more physical and intense. Traditionally when you look at how competitive South American players are, its even more baffling. Edited June 21, 2025 by OneMoSalah

DDA 10,249
I bet many of these players feel lied to. Especially the likes of Palmer. They were sold the dream of us building for major trophies, to dominate football for years to come, to be a part of this ‘project’ and yet all we seem to do is gear up for profit margins by searching for the best talent in The World who we refuse to even use in ‘Mickey Mouse cup group stages’. no wonder Palmer is sitting in the dugout looking lost. This club is an absolute shambles. bigbluewillie, Laylabelle and cfccrost 2

I've never know a set of fans who are unable or unwilling to support their own players. If Chelsea were linked to the Premier League midfielder who's created more chances from open play calendar year than any other, you'd be all over it. When you find that that midfielder already pays for Chelsea, then you'll find excuses to rubbish him.
