£60m layout, £300kpw~, and 27 in two days. Not to mention his only productive seasons have come in Portugal.

It shouldn't surprise anyone why people aren't jumping through hoops for him. Tell me the last 27 yr old to not have played in any of Europe's top leagues and delivered.

Drogba counts? 🙂

I am not saying we should go for him, just surprised about news being quiet on him. Press indicated all top teams are all over him.

Lukakuu springs to mind in a way he had a few good seasons at West Brom, but at Utd and Chelsea was utter shite, went to the Italian league and it just suits him, some players find there level in other leagues and thrive, premier league isn’t for everyone, that’s one good thing I see about bringing these kids in young to play in the league.

You forgot to mention Everton as well. I feel like he needs to be "that guy", and that wasn't the case, especially during his second spell at Chelsea. Had we signed him during Conte's spell, he might have proven to be a decent signing, nothing more.

I agree with your evaluation, though. Some players can't handle the speed or high tempo matches while they are afforded breathers in La Liga or Serie A. The physical aspect isn't as important as it was 20 years ago, but it will be interesting to see if Estevao bulks up from Aug to the start of next year.

Have to agree unless we were to sign Nico Williams which looks highly unlikely. Think Mbuemo is going to thrive in all the games against the other big teams for United where you would assume they’ll have less of the ball and he can use his pace and aggression on counter attacks just like at Brentford.

I wasn’t personally bothered whatsoever about them splashing on Cunha who is a good player. But Mbuemo I think will pretty scary if Amorim and their recruitment can nail this rebuild.

Rogers would do. I just feel like will continue to buy Conference/EL standard players that might suit the likes of Tottenham rather than us. We need someone that will show a real sign of intent.

I do wonder what will happen with Diallo should this signing be confirmed. He's one player I actually rank from their squad.

Last time I checked, Ligue 1 was considered one of the top five leagues especially during that period when you had the likes of Ronaldinho plying their trade there.

The press will print anything for clicks.

I have seen some rumours about Mitrovic to united. He is nowhere near the profile our board looks at, but I think he could be a Giroud level signing. Not happening I know. Only an interesting option to talk about.

As for the talk that the board are better at identifying good attackers than defenders. It is really nearly impossible to buy 20 year old defenders and manage to construct a good defence. Experience and squad chemistry is needed to have a competent back line. You can have an individual moment of brilliance in attack that makes you look brilliant and covers mistakes. That is simply impossible for defenders.

Mamadou Sarr will be made official by Chelsea soon. Enzo Maresca will evaluate the centre back at the Club World Cup, before deciding if he stays or goes back to Strasbourg on loan.

Last summer we started a new trend of going from 0 to full announcement on random names so I'm not listening that much to rumours

My guess is some name(s) we've no idea about at this moment will be the real signings and most of what we see in the press is just agents paying for PR

Confirmed by Ornstein Sancho is not joining we will pay 5M to United

Smart from us, very smart we need better than him

Were signing Gittens or Fart instead of him so not sure how smart we are.

I was fine with Sancho staying or going. But fuck sake, if we actually sign Gittens for £50m to replace him.

A 15th placed, broke, club in absolute shambles Man United are going to have more ambitious targets than us after finishing in the UCL and winning a trophy. 🤦‍♂️

I’d take Mbeumo a million times over Gittens or Garnacho.

Posted (edited)

Just received a BBC notification that we are sending Sancho back to ManU and paying what the report describes as a penalty. I heard one journo describe the payment as just the agreed loan fee, and not an additional penalty clause at all.

I confess that I had wondered if we might try to turn a profit on Sancho by doing a back-to-back buy from United and sell to X deal. In reality that was daft of me because United and club X would make sure that couldn't happen.

Since the original report claims that we've passed on Sancho because we failed to agree terms with him, I have to say that I don't really blame him for holding out. Although he's relatively young he has to face the reality that, outside of moving to Saudi, he will never get another contract to match his current deal with United. That being so, it makes sense not to give up that contract without a payoff or matching terms from his new employer.

Updated to take account of the report of the reason we did not sign Sancho.
