TheHulk 2,636
We can't lose Calafiori to Arsenal, can you imagine going through hell and earth to get that complete clown Mudryk over them only to lose out for an actual quality player. Go for an actual specialist LB instead rather than a CB who can also play LB. My thoughts as well, these clowns backed themselves in a corner burning all available money and now all they have left is offering player exchanges no one gives a fuck. If we’re both offering the same money and they’re actually speaking to the player first then I’m not sure we can win. It’s not like the Roman days where we can blow any competition out of the water with higher wages. Arse probably offer higher wages than us now. Add UCL football, the prospect of winning the PL, and them being much more stable than us and it’s kind of a no brainer to choose them over us at the moment. The player is just to sweeten the deal so Bologna has both cash and a replacement

robsblubot 3,595
Never heard of him. 😅 Fluminense above is the "geriatric" team of the Brazilian league; Marcelo former Real Madrid, now carrying a fat belly, is the left-back. Fluminense is dead last in the standings for that reason. Edited July 3, 2024 by robsblubot

Cue the "they sell all our players" but in reality we lose a ton to lower leagues, no contracts renewals etc. so I'm interested in a bit of a deeper reasoning then that. I posted a comment sometime in the last 24 hours in which I said that I wondered what Neil Bath thought of how Cobham youngsters were being managed by the club. I suppose this gives us a clue. The one thing I can say for the owners on this is that it shows a great deal of self confidence and a splash of ruthlessness. Not so long ago they were talking about Bath in a way which lead me to believe they agreed with my assessment that he was the club's most valuable employee. BlueCo keep rolling the dice. If they come up good all will be forgiven. If they don't all the owners have to lose are a few billions. We, on the other hand, have our hearts on the line. From a practical point of view I imagine they will have paid up Neil Bath's contract and placed him on gardening leave. I don't like to fall into conspiracy theories, like them wanting to get rid of anything and everything they inherited under Roman but it makes it that much harder to scoff at this when people like Neil Bath and Jim Fraser are leaving the club. I've been of the belief for years that the academy should be providing the squad depth for the first team, so we can concentrate on just buying players solely to focus on improving the starting XI, at most first 15-16 players in the squad. It's pretty clear that this ownership do not share the same views. For everything good that Roman did for this club, it gets more and more worrying that the biggest mistake he may have ever made here was locking this ownership into the club for at least 10 years. NikkiCFC 8,516
I imagine new owners are happy with academy because it brings pure profit which helps us massively. If that is all that we get from academy it's still worth it because let's be honest. Who from academy last 10 or so years was good enough for Chelsea starting 11? Only Reece and he is also not providing much last 2 seasons. Colwill may become another one.

All of these are arguable cases I grant you but; Abraham, Ake, Guehi, Livramento, Mount, Musiala, Rice, and Tomori are a few who could be discussed. All of these qualify as solid squad players at the least. That's not a bad record when you consider the level at which we were competing, and competing against sides which are basically drawn from the entire globe. Remember there are geographic restrictions concerning which players can be recruited by club academies. No club, not even the supergiants, will produce a world class first XI featuring a majority of homegrown players except in very rare circumstances.
