Non European season just gives them time to gel as a team, not necessarily a bad thing, still have fa and league cup games.

Sure, but still feel like Santos and Lavia could be starter for a lot of other good teams.

Imagine being a Liverpool fan and hearing this news. They are only 5m short of Southamptons valuation and they are talking for weeks

I really really hope not.

While he technically can do it it would be a total waste of the game dictating qualities he has.

Either that or we're changing shape to 4-3-3 which just wouldn't make sense after a full preseason of 4-2-3-1...Very odd, but I'd still absolutely love it if we took him right from under Liverpool's noses and still got Caicedo

Anything in midfield after we secure Caicedo is icing on the cake. Just make sure to get him in first and foremost.

Getting Caicedo AND Lavia would make this a historically insane transfer window. But it seems almost impossible to believe.

Unless there’s some crazy agents fees involved that we’d pay and Liverpool refuse to, I don’t understand why Liverpool would be okay offering £46m but back out at £48m. It makes zero sense.

Surely Southampton wont aceept tho. They will at least wait for Liverpools response and hope for a bidding war.

Yep. Like I just said, this is Liverpool’s top target so this late in the summer there’s surely no way they’d walk away because of a few million.

At least we would have forced Liverpool to pay more than they wanted and forced them to play with no proper DM against us. Either way that Lavia bid is a good thing.

With the players we have, the players that might still come and with the loans, we are building a team that could be without any transfers for years.

Or equally we need to do another rebuild next year as most of them haven't developed as expected or aren't up to it.

People are talking about Caicedo as if he is some seasoned pro in his peak. Kid is 21 and had one season in the PL with a mid-table side who overperformed last season.

That's a risk in any context, we've signed multiple players with proven pedigree these last two years and look how that ended.

No point to continue with 4231 without Nkunku. We absolutely have no one to replace him. Maybe we are switching to 433 in which case 6 central and defensive midfielders would be ok. Caicedo, Enzo, Lavia, Adams, Santos, Gallagher. But if we are bringing 3 MFs Conor may leave. And Ugo is still here.
