I like when some of them refer to is as renters. That Chelsea doesn't develop talent, we just rent it for the prime years and then send them on their way.

Ummm doesn't all pro teams do that?

that relates to what I said how?

Come on now... We usually make at least 4 signings.

In 17/18 season we bought: Rudiger, Bakayoko, Morata, Drinkwater, Zappacosta and Caballero on free. And in winter Giroud, Emerson and Barkley. More than 250m pounds all together.

And this is all in normal situation. We had transfer ban so I expect even more activity now.

Ziyech was bought in January.

Only Werner this summer. After Havertz I can easily see us buying 3 or 4 more players. Not all of them are going to be expensive like Oblak, Chilwell, Gimenez and Rice but some cheaper players like Reguilon and cheaper GK or CB will definitely come.

After Kai new GK, CB and LB is least we can expect.

Terry left we need Rudiger, costa left we need morata, matic left we we need bakayoko. Those three are must signing. Drinkwater and Zappacosta are stupid forced signing.

Willian and Pedro gone but we have puli, cho and ziyech ready and werner.

I don't understand making signing for the sake of signing. That lead to drinkwater, Zappacosta, and also to some degree emerson.

Other than ball winner we don't have depth problem whatsoever. I'll take a ballwinner if we can but that's it.

I am a big fan of offensive type full back but it is all about balance now. So I am guessing this is why we are after Tagliafico?

With Pulisic, Havertz, Ziyech and Werner all starting do we really need offensive FBs?

Liverpool and City both have 5 offensively oriented players but in different systems. City 3 strikers (wingers) and two attacking midfielders. But Liverpool do not play with any attacking midfielders. Instead they use two really offensive full backs.

City won 100 points in the league with Delph as LB. Also when we play James (not good defensively) we use Azpi as LB or we go with wing backs system to protect defense.

I am hearing Tagliafico is very good defensively.

Quote I found:

Stylistically, Tagliafico is part of an increasingly rare breed of full-backs in that his primary assets lie in his defensive capabilities, a precise tackler with impressive stamina, able to traverse the touchline relentlessly for 90 minutes.

He has been likened to compatriot and Internazionale legend Javier Zanetti, owing to the pair having both started at Banfield and sharing a no-nonsense, uncompromising style blended with understated technical skill.

We need to upgrade GK, LB and CB urgently! It is not for the sake of it. Some players will leave, new ones will come here. Hopefully much better.

Red Cafe is full of numpty cunts, I see so much poor football knowledge there

Sadly once some people there assumed negotiations were finished there were a lot of comments like the following tweet. If ManU sends the €120, they will still buy him.

Better options you say?

Upgrade is difficult. Let's say cb. I will never say you can't get good player cheaply, but we don't need good cb we need leading cb.

GK is feasible, but you need to handle kepa situation first.

Lb, what do you want your lb to do. Let say we play

Puli - Werner - Ziyech

Mount

Kova - Kante

Lb - zouma - rudiger - james

You better want a lb that has aerial ability otherwise good luck on set pieces.

It will be interesting to see what the club's transfer strategy regarding the defence is this window.

I think most of us are in agreement that at minimum we need a GK, LB, CB and preferably an alternative to Kante to play the holding role (or possibly replacement for him).

We are not going to raise enough in my opinion to go for the most expensive targets in each position that we are being heavily linked with. (Based on the rumours if we moved for Pope, Rice and Chilwell that would be around £200m).

So somewhere there needs to be a compromise. Either it's in the way of the 2017 summer window where we settle on alternative targets to our first choice ones. Obviously that window was a disaster, although in this situation I think that potentially better targets can be secured over the likes of Chilwell and Pope for example for a fraction of their prices quoted. We're also not trying to fill the squad like Conte was trying to do in that summer so our focus is on improving the starting XI, not beefing up the squad.

Or the other option is to sort out a couple of these positions this window, whilst making do in the other areas before correcting them next summer. It's interesting that a lot of articles have talked about a 3 year plan which is what has been sold to the likes of Werner and Havertz (whether that is challenging back at the top in the third year or at the end of three years I'm not quite sure). Lampard still has to be hitting and achieving targets to stay in the job to see us through to that point but it's the first time in a long while where there seems to be a much longer term plan in place rather than a shorter term focus and it makes me wonder whether the second option may happen.

If we're not going to sort everything out this window I would much rather sort out the keeper situation over the left back situation and if we were able to get Rice his versatility would help next season at playing centre back or an alternative to Kante in defensive midfield depending on circumstances.

I guess the other option is to not pursue Havertz and instead focus on the defensive areas of the squad but I think this is a unique opportunity to snap up one of the best young players in world football. I think if he were to develop into a world superstar over the next 3-4 years, it would be gutting to know we had a free run at him and didn't take the chance.

Only stats I want to see from a GK are:

1) Average shots per game faced and save percentage

2) Cross collection per game and success rate (with details on how many faced per game on average.)

3) Long range pass completion.

4) Overall pass completion.

The stats above are poor indicators as we do not know what their respective defensive units are like.

Personally from that list I have only seen Donnarumma play enough, whilst I have seen a bit of Onana. Personally, I am not sold on Onana as he has poor handling (he saves stuff but palms it into danger a lot and he doesn't get his hands on enough so has to push/punch too much for my liking.) Donnarumma, I was quite a big fan of a couple of years ago but he hasn't progressed as much as I thought he would've by now.

As for the others, I am really interested to know how many people have seen these boys play more than 5 full 90 minute games. People these days tout players having only watched match highlights/youtube clips and looked at their stats. That for me, isn't enough.
