His movement is excellent, pace is frightening and from what I've seen he's pretty robust and a tireless worker. I think the key will be to get players in and around him so he's not left isolated. Full backs will be key here to give the width so the likes of Pulisic, Ziyech and CHO can all be used as inverted wingers with the option and threat to cut inside and the likes of Havertz and Mount will need to get up and down to support him too. Having said this, if Pulisic continues to be hindered with niggling injuries then Werner may find himself playing from the left quite frequently anyway, with Giroud or Tammy as the central striker. This made me think; Chilwell isnt brilliant crosser, but its not like we have Lewa in attack. So I guess the game will be played on the ground. Im not the biggest fan of this because there isnt enough versatility, but at least Kai is tall and might cause some danger in air.

Giroud still presents the "plan B" option of a target man and aerial threat in the box. I think the full backs though will be looking more regularly for cut backs or crosses driven across goal which will obviously suit the movement and size of Werner but also should benefit the midfielders expected to make the runs into the box for support (a la Lampard). To be honest though the more dangerous option is giving Ziyech, Pulisic, CHO, etc time and space to cut inside on to their stronger foot. It can't happen all the time otherwise it becomes predictable but two energetic, athletic full backs that are capable of consistently overlapping should help to create that space for it to be a regular option because somebody has to track them. I also think the tactical flexibility and versatility of our forward players creates so many options that can be exploited mid game without the need for subs. It's something that Lampard seems to want from his attacking players. Werner can drift to the left, and Pulisic can exploit the space centrally. Havertz and Ziyech can switch roles. Havertz can push up higher alongside Werner. Lots of interesting options.  kellzfresh

Pizy 18,909
Very weird seeing Che,sea with a smaller, lightning quick striker rather than the bigger, more traditional #9's that we've had for years and years. He popped up all over the pitch today. Should be awesome to watch when all of our attackers are fit and on form. Having 2 players with incredible vision and creativity like Havertz and Ziyech combined with two forwards who excell at making runs like Timo and CP will be lethal. And that would be a big problem if he kept drifting in middle. Thankfuly we will have Kai upfront in those moments. Timo works in two striker system, but two traditional strikers bring all sorts of tactical problems and you lose a pair of legs in midfield. So instead of getting another traditional striker to pair him with Timo,  we will have AM who is just as lethal upfront but can play across entire frontline. Could be ridiculously efficient.   Pizy, kellzfresh, Strike and 1 other

They are obviously different strikers and at different age but the contrast was so stark when we saw Werner and then Giroud upfront.

And it'll be that way with Tammy as well. If (heaven forbid) Timo gets injured the way our team plays will be completely different. We now have 3 strikers with vastly different qualities and skill sets. Plus the ability to play with a false 9 in Havertz if necessary. Bar Guardiola, what manager has ever successfully incorporated one in his team? And even then, he had the greatest player of all time in the role in one of the greatest club sides of all time where they had such qualities in various areas of the pitch to make it work so effectively. I get Havertz has played there, I do, but I dont think it should be a viable option, I know you said if necessary but I think even with Eden in that position we lacked so much and even more so, even with Havertz we still will lack. DDA, communicate, bigbluewillie and 1 other

And unlike Hazard or Pulisic he isn't small and easy to bottle up. But I don't ever think we'll see it. There's no way all 3 of Timo, Giroud, and Tamy will all be missing at once. Magic Lamps 11,692
Good debut. Surprised me a little with his link up play. Passing is actually not his forte but he has massively improved here the last few months. But it looks like he feels comfortable with the team and in our shirt. Blue is really his color, the kit suits him perfectly Johnnyeye, killer1257 and DDA

Jase 43,479
Werner on expectations after joining us and adapting to the Premier League... https://metro.co.uk/2020/09/01/timo-werner-issues-promise-to-frank-lampard-chelsea-goal-target-13206985/?ito=newsnow-feed ‘I think that’s more of an incentive. ‘What the club demands of me is no less than I demand of myself. ‘The club has brought me to score goals and after 28 [league] goals for Leipzig I have not come to London to say a few is enough for me now. ‘I want to prove it there as well as at Leipzig. ‘For me, this feels less like pressure, but also from the club side more like anticipation that I can help celebrate successes.’ Werner also admits he will need to physically adjust to the Premier League. ‘The defenders in England are more robust than in the Bundesliga,’ said Werner. ‘It’s very, very, much more physical in the Premier League. ‘I have to develop myself and take on this physical aspect. English football is very fast. ‘That suits me because I am too have reasonably good speed.’
Jase 43,479
Werner on settling in London and with the team... https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2020/09/02/timo-werner-exclusive--already-loving-london Chelsea’s summer-signed striker Timo Werner could hardly have enjoyed a better start to his time on the pitch with his new club when he found the net within five minutes at Brighton on Saturday, and he tells the official Chelsea website he has begun his new life away from the club and on the training pitch too. The 24-year-old commenced training at Cobham at the end of July having agreed to join the Blues in June, making the switch from RB Leipzig in his native Germany. Despite the break between seasons (albeit a shortened one), his sharpness was there to see when he raced into the box and finished from Callum Hudson-Odoi’s knockdown on Saturday. And the help from his team-mates stretches further than when they have the ball, he reveals after we ask him the question - how have you settled in at Chelsea? ‘Very good,’ Werner responds. ‘I know the way from my home to the training ground now, so that’s good! ‘That’s important, knowing your way around your new surroundings and we have also trained at the stadium so now I know my way to Stamford Bridge also. ‘My apartment is very nice, I feel happy there and also the city of London is brilliant. For me, London is one of the best cities in the world so I’m really happy. When you take a few days away, the weather was also very good! Yes, I’m very happy and settling in well. ‘When I first came to England it was hard to understand everyone’s English,’ he admits, ‘because I haven’t had to speak this language since my school days. It’s not been as hard as I expected though, everyone has helped me settle in. People have spoken very slowly so I can understand and right now I feel very happy. I can understand everything and communicate in English.’ Another German at Chelsea, Toni Rudiger, had spoken to Werner about the club around the time of his signing, and the striker confirms it is assisting him in settling now, having a friendly face like Rudiger around. ‘Having someone who can speak German always helps, and also Kova [Mateo Kovacic] can speak German too, so he’s helped me settle in. They have helped me around the training ground but also in explaining to me where is good to go for dinner, where is good to live, things like this. ‘I didn’t know London very well, I’d only visited a few times, so it was really important to have two guys like this helping me settle in.’ When it comes down to the serious business of preparing for the new season, it is of course Frank Lampard with whom Werner has been liaising closely. ‘The work with the manager recently has been really good,’ says the striker. ‘He’s been showing and explaining to the whole team, not just me, what we can do on the pitch and how to improve on last season. ‘He’s been great to work with and he’s been discussing his plans for the future, and how we want to battle with teams like Man City and Liverpool. I think Chelsea is a big club and with this team that we have, I think we can reach a new level. We have some very good players here and the manager is there to show us the way, and help us improve. We’ve worked a lot on tactical things, as well as our strength and fitness, to make sure we are ready for the start of the season.’ Atomiswave
