Stats 7,147
Whatever his limitations, he showed exactly today, why it would be stupid to let him go. Games like this, he controls and dictates the tempo of the game. Created the best chance of the game in first half too. Excellent ball for Abraham. We definitely should not be looking to ship on any more midfielders or attackers now. 0007 and Fernando
OneMoSalah 8,886
Played excellent today. Proof of why in these sort of games where we dominate the ball throughout and teams try let us break them down, he is vital. Yet again though some people fail to see the value of having a player like this. Still think if he went to City instead of here the summer we got him that people would truly appreciate the quality he has. Suppose though typical Chelsea isnt it? Limited player or not - which players dont have some sort of limitations? Bar a handful - if you build a good system around any good players they will perform. If we get Declan Rice he wont be taking his role in the team in these games 100%. Stats
The Skipper 20,609
Best performance in 2020. Might be worth keeping around for just these types of games where we'll obviously dominate the ball. As long as he has Silva and Zouma behind him it might work well. Fernando
Fernando 6,585
Agreed, when there's no pressure in the ball we need these type of players in the team. Good game and hopefully he can keep it up. kellzfresh

When I saw Palace's lineup at the start, I was thinking to myself that its been ages since we've faced 4-4-2. More often than not, its been some clone of Antonio Conte's 3 at the back formation. Even Mourinho resorted to it in the league cup game.

Because too many teams will be focused on containing our attacking force so they won't want to press and leave gaps, so generally Jorginho will dominate most games he plays, especially at home. kellzfresh and Fernando

In theory, that may happen but we won't know for sure until we play more teams/games. Not every team is gonna be as obliging as Hodgson's Palace - sitting back with two banks of four and not bothered to press aggressively etc. And we saw what happened at Spurs in midweek. In the first half, Spurs just sat off us, defended deep and Jorginho and Kovacic looked comfortable and we controlled the game but in the second half, when they started to be more aggressive and press higher up the field, those two struggled. mkh
BXL70 396
Jorginho is not world-class but I hope we won't sell him or loan it out. We will have many games to play this season, almost 2 games a week on average and we'll need him to rotate with Kovacic, Kanté, and if injuries the situation could be worst. Instead loan out RLC. Yep, but I think he has shown enough in his time here that he is a really valuable squad player. We don't have anyone like him who can dictate the game the way he does so comfortably. For instance last season when we were 1-0 down to Arsenal last season and we couldn't get control of the game as we had no one who was assured in possession. Lamps brought Jorginho on during the first half and as soon as he came on, he changed that game. We controlled it. Would be ludicrous to let him go. bigbluewillie
YorkshireBlue 3,279
Kinda funny to read how shit he is and he shouldn't be playing here, then a sniff of another club and its the complete opposite lmao.

So lets not be too judgemental here. I think it is fair to say that Jorginho is quite good at what he does but overall rather limited so there will be games where he is completely useless and some where he will be bossing it. Given we did not bring a mdifielder and loaned out a few it would be madness to sell him right now, esp to a rival but at the same time we have to be looking out for a long-term upgrade. NikkiCFC 8,334
Jorginho-Kante Jorginho-Kovacic Or even in 4-3-3 with one player deeper... Everything looks better than Kova-Kante for some reason. 0007 and Strike

R2D2 368
Definitely wouldn't lose sleep if he left us, I though it was pretty classless from him not to give the penalty to Werner to get his monkey of his back and score his first PL goal, it was already 3-0 up. Abraham wanted to take penalty from Jorgi and Lamps said after the game all you need to know. He would be upset if Jorgi gave that penalty to anyone. I didn't create anything, he is like 2nd or 3rd in captaincy hierarchy, he obvious knew the score was 3-0 and it was already won, you'd expect him to hand it to someone that needs a confidence boost yet took it like a shameless guy to inflate his count. Lampard can say that after the game but I highly doubt he would be angry or upset if Jorginho let someone else take it at that score, he didn't seem to mind when Barkley took the ball and missed a penalty last season against Valencia I think. Would Lampard be upset had Jorginho given the penalty to someone else at 3-0 up with minutes to go? This was someone who gave a penalty to Drogba, in a similar situation to Saturday's although it was 4-0 back then, so that he could try and win the Golden Boot in the 8-0 win against Wigan. Think Lampard's main problem was that Abraham decided to take the penalty himself by taking the ball immediately. It didn't look as if he discussed it with Jorginho or was given the opportunity by Jorginho to take it, hence why Azpi stepped in and Lampard said players shouldn't be jumping ahead of the queue. It was kinda disappointing to see that Jorginho didn't give Werner the chance to take it but it was arguably even more disappointing when Abraham decided to take the penalty himself (even if he did jump ahead of the queue as Lampard alluded to), think Werner asked him if he could take it but was turned down. Talk about team goals there, eh? Strike
