Share Posted July 14, 2018 https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2018/7/14/sarri-joins-Chelsea Maurizio Sarri is the new Chelsea head coach. He moves to Stamford Bridge following a successful three-year spell at Serie A side Napoli. During his time there, the Italian, who is 59, revitalised the fortunes of the club and returned them to the Champions League while playing a scintillating brand of expansive, attacking football. In his three years at the helm, Napoli recorded two second-place finishes in their domestic league, including last season when they achieved a record points total for a runner-up, and one third place. In 2017, he won the Serie A Coach of the Year award. Sarri, who has signed a three-year contract, said: ‘I am very happy to be coming to Chelsea and the Premier League. It is an exciting new period in my career. ‘I look forward to starting work and meeting the players on Monday ahead of travelling to Australia, where I will be able to get to know the squad and begin our match action. ‘I hope we can provide some entertaining football for our fans, and that we will be competing for trophies at the end of the season, which is what this club deserves.’ Director Marina Granovskaia added: ‘We are delighted to welcome Maurizio and are looking forward to him bringing his football philosophy to Chelsea. ‘Maurizio’s Napoli side played some of the most exciting football in Europe, impressing with their attacking approach and dynamism, and his coaching methods significantly improved the players at his disposal. ‘He has plenty of experience in Serie A and the Champions League and we know he is relishing the chance to work in the Premier League.’ Along with the team’s improvement in results, Sarri’s reign in Naples will be remembered for the quality of Napoli’s play. The term ‘Sarri-ball’ was coined and he also earned praise for his ability to re-shape the structure of the squad, nurturing some of the club’s younger talents with hugely positive results. Popular Post! OneMoSalah 8,886 Posted July 14, 2018 Popular Post! Share Posted July 14, 2018 Abramovich gets his Pep Guardiola in a sense of the football philosophy he will bring to the club. Surely this gives him a bit more hold than what some other managers have had because we all know how crazy Roman was for Pep and Barcelona. Exciting move although there is a bigger pressure on him here but if he gets that "Sarriball" football on the go here we are in for an exciting 3 years. ulsterchelsea 3,221
A lot of work to do in very little time. Club need to get their fingers pulled right out their arses now and sort his squad out. Whoever is going get them gone and bring in what the man wants. Not long till start of season and this absolutely ridiculous Australia trip to come. Get it sorted lads

Pizy 18,903
"...his coaching methods significantly improved the players at his disposal." Clearly a not so subtle dig at Conte, but this better not be the boards excuse for not dipping into the market. They can't do to Sarri what they did to Mourinho after he won the league by thinking the squad was good enough. Supermonkey92
Superblue 6,372
I've already mentioned it on a previous thread and perhaps it's false optimism but I get the feeling that the club will give more time, patience and resources to Sarri. It's always been mentioned throughout the media that Roman was desperate for Guardiola and wanted to play an exciting brand of football. The way that Sarri plays is very unique and I think that is intriguing to Roman that if it works, could set Chelsea apart from everyone else. The time and patience they've showed to secure Sarri and Roman getting involved personally to sort out the appointment suggests a big support for him. The club could have easily taken the simple and cheaper route and appointed someone like Blanc who still is a big name with pedigree. The signing of Jorginho for me also suggests the club are prepared to significantly back Sarri by bringing in main components to help his style. I can't remember the last time Chelsea decided to go head to head with one of our main rivals and make an effort to outbid them. manpe

He essentially improved the players in 2016/17 and pretty sure at some point, we have all said that can only go so far before the lack of quality is exposed, which certainly was the case last season. Superblue 6,372
The one thing I have read which is a little bit of a worry is that he doesn't rotate his squad very often. Whilst I'd much prefer a settled side to constant tinkering, I do think a manager needs to have faith in a core group of about 18 players and use that group at key times to keep things fresh. The Premier League isn't just insanely intense and competitive every game, but with Europa League, domestic cup competitions, festive period, etc it's key that he understands the need at times to keep the squad fresh, especially if the team is playing high intense football. Hopefully he'll acknowledge the squad as a whole is stronger and deeper than he had at Napoli and can utilise it accordingly to his advantage. Jase 43,479
For all the talk of Sarri playing attacking football, the one thing I am curious is whether he is flexible or adaptable enough to change his tactics when things are not working. Has a lot more options here than at Napoli to try different approaches if Plan A isn't working. Unionjack and Dimitr

We are Evolving! "We are Evolving!" Hopefully in the right direction. I just hope that he is given the time for to mould the squad into his brand of football, and not sacked if we win nothing in the first year. Look at Pep at City, won nothing in his first season, but quietly went about building for season 2 and what a season he had. In my humble opinion we have been building our squad on sand for the past few years, propping it up with average signings. Some have worked, and some haven't (Barkley, Drinkwater, Bakayoko, Zappacosta). Sarri likes to train up the players he has, so maybe, just maybe, some of our youth can now make the breakthrough and the potential of the likes of Bakayoko can be brought out. I'm wandering here (it's my age!!) really what i'm saying is that I dont expect us to sweep the board this season, but let him build slowly, and set the proper foundations in place for years to come. Now that's not much to ask for.......or is it ??? Unionjack
