We are never gonna find a 3rd striker this good
robsblubot 3,595
yeah he's just too good to be third option as he shows for France (and for us not so long ago). IMO Giroud is a lot better than Abraham right now, but I do understand why the club is betting on Abraham to improve and become a better player. The thing with Abraham and Giroud is that they each have something that the other person lacks. For instance, Abraham's hold-up play isn't quite as good as Giroud (yet, maybe) but Giroud doesn't have Abraham's pace and mobility. Based on how Lampard wants us to play, having pace, mobility, agility etc is important and given he is also trying to build a team for the future, it's also clear why Abraham is preferred over Giroud. Giroud was never going to be part of our long term plan, especially where being first choice is concerned. Strangely enough, Abraham is also not an aerial threat, which makes him a hard pick against Werner, IMO. Werner has all that plus some (more skill, intensity, and pace)... can't see Abraham starting a lot of games when everybody is healthy, but good option to have. Magic Lamps 11,692
Justa beautiful headed goal. Super difficult to generate this much power and height on a balll that basically goes up and down vertically especially with a diagonal run up like Giroud had to take.Perfect timing as well. These kind of actions win you games. That is why we need to keep him at all costs. MoroccanBlue and Vesper
Vesper 30,213
Chelsea's Giroud getting better with age, says Lampard https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-soccer-champions-ren-che/chelseas-giroud-getting-better-with-age-says-lampard-idUKKBN2850C0 (Reuters) - Olivier Giroud is a model professional for the Chelsea squad and the 34-year-old striker seems to be getting better with age, manager Frank Lampard said after the Frenchman scored a late winner against Stade Rennais in the Champions League on Tuesday. Giroud has yet to start a Premier League or Champions League game this season but came on as a second-half substitute and scored in stoppage time to seal Chelsea’s 2-1 win and a place in the knockout stages. “Everybody kind of feels from the outside what a great professional he is, how highly-regarded he is by his team mates and myself,” Lampard told reporters. “He’s so professional in how he trains and looks after himself that age isn’t even a factor for him. He’s getting better with age if anything, in terms of how he looks after himself.” Lampard has preferred Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham ahead of Giroud and the striker’s lack of minutes prompted France coach Didier Deschamps to tell him to sort out his situation ahead of next year’s Euros. But with Chelsea set to play 10 games in six weeks, Lampard said more game time is in store for Giroud, who is France’s second-highest scorer with 44 goals. “He offers a lot for us and I keep saying it but the big schedule coming up and the way we play means I will rely on players,” Lampard added. “Thankfully for me he’s a player that always keeps the right attitude if he’s not playing regularly and I know when I call upon him that he comes in as he did today.” Atomiswave
Fulham Broadway 17,332
A few minutes at the back end of a game won't keep him at SB with the Euro's a few months away. Deschamps has already warned he needs games and I'm not sure Frank will give him much more than cameos as his career ebbs away. I think there will be a meeting between the 2 parties and Giroud will move on. The team selections suggest Tammy had edged ahead of OG. Great attitude from him all the way Atomiswave

Great attitude from him all the way He may have a dilemma if we're in a title race in January, he's not got close to a PL title yet and if there's a chance of winning one (which will probably be his only chance) even a a squad player he may choose to stay! Azul 1,615
I was frustated at how he was treated by the club, I'm happy to see that he is getting a chance now. He is clearly better than Tammy and he was dropped in the beginning of the season for no reason. Let's hope they give him more game time and he stays at the end of the day. Azul 1,615
And you thought he wouldn't be given game time [emoji38]Yes the way it was looking and the way his agent was talking I thought he'd leave. The only reason he is getting game time is because Tammy choked against Spurs by the way. The funny thing was that you didn't mind him rotting on the bench, yet I spoke out when I saw a player that was mistreated by the club. I stand by what I said, if Lampard would not have started him then we all should've respected Giroud's decision to leave. What happened today strenghtened my argument even more, he is a better player than Tammy. Yet he was dropped in the beginning of the season..... your argument for why he was dropped still doesn't make sense mate. Magic Lamps 11,692
I think we should let him start the next two games no matter what. Then rest him to have him fresh for the festive period.
