Torres had years of support from the fans but people can barely afford a single season for Morata.

Torres had years of success in the premier league that the average fan had seen while he was struggling here too. Much easier to be patient with that than a guy most people on here had seen play 3-4 times at the most on here before we signed him.

And it's less justifiable to bash someone like Morata at this point of his career which is below the point Torres had reached upon signing for Chelsea.

Exactly. To think Morata went on a 27 game run without scoring whilst at Juve is unbelievable (currently on 13).

We have been spoilt with the CF successes of Drogba and Costa. Morata was supposed to be as good (or at least almost) as these guys. But he's not. He is weak and can be easily bullied by big central defenders.

It doesn't help that we are also in 5th place, losing silly games. At least with Torres we weren't as bad as this.

Nobody ever said Morata was as good or at least meant to be as good as Drogba and Costa. Drogba in his best years was undoubtedly world class and if anybody disagrees I'll argue to I am blue in the face, I mean 10 winning goals in 10 cup finals, if your not world class with that sort of record or never were then fuck knows (although he ever only scored 20 goals+ in the same season like twice). Costa is probably as close to world class without actually being world class, seeing as many people here believed he was a limited footballer or whatever, although in almost 3 months at Atletico without 6 months of football he has been absolutely crucial for them it just shows that he is a top player and now we've got a striker who is struggling, a huge miss. Morata is a good player and will eventually be an even better player but to even say hes as good as Diego Costa who was arguably the catalyst when Atletico won La Liga and has scored maybe 100 goals in the past 5 seasons is a bit much, although Alvaro is a good player in his own right and has huge potential to become a top top player.

Also at least with Torres we weren't as bad as this? Are you serious? We finished like 6th in 2012 and only qualified for the CL for the next season because we won it. I mean its okay to say we are struggling but that is an outrageous statement if I've ever seen one.

Torres, ironically, was supported thoroughly by probably 50% of the fan base on here for over 2 seasons and many believed that we needed to change our tactics to accommodate him to turn him back into the player he was despite the fact his knees were shot and he was fucking shit but Morata after 10 games without a goal is all of a sudden a Sunday league player. Or so I'm gathering from various posts on here.

Imagine after Stoke away that, come Feb, Chelsea fans would want Olivier 'Arsenal French Lampost' Giroud first name on the team sheet. Football is mental sometimes.

100% pal. Absolutely bonkers. It will change again, I think hes only a goal off changing his fortunes, if that goal v United counted it would of helped big time or if he stuck that one away in the first 5 mins but he was unlucky.

I still think he is going to be a success here and shut people up. I get he is not playing well, however he has had to cope with injuries and so on and has showed glimpses of how good he can be. Lukaku has played a lot more football than Morata for when people want to compare stats. Morata has played a lot of games and gone off injured and also has had issues with his back and hamstring. But seems people have completely wrote him off. He has missed easy chances but what I like is that he is getting himself in positions to score. He always offers a goalscoring threat. But I can understand but also not surprised that fans rave over a player when he does well, but completely write them off, when he is not performing. The contrasting comments on players throughout seasons is crazy.

I'm not so sure about that. Morata really only had one good season. People used to call Kane a "one-season wonder" before. Morata at the moment is a true definition of this.

Outrageous? Are you kidding me? Let me tell you something. You got it the opposite way round. In 2012 we were keeping our head above water. In 2012, we had an unproven manager, but managed to do a CL/FA Cup double. Beaten Spuds included 5-2 in the semis. We showed more heart and passion than the 2017/18 team we have now. This team is nowhere near the quality we had in 2012. This 17/18 team? I don't see us winning anything this season.

This team is near opposite of the 2012 team. Point to me a 2012 game that we lost 4-1 the way we did to Watford. Or 3-0 to Bournemouth. I can bet my ass this would never happen to the 2012 squad, even with Torres. And let's not forget again, in 2012 we had Di Matteo! This season we have Conte!

Don't get me wrong, Torres was one of the worst Chelsea CFs ever. But Morata is closer to Torres, then he is to Costa or Drogba or even Hasselbaink at the moment.

And I can't speak for Chelsea fans, but personally the reason why I'm fed up of Morata because he was suppose to be the lead CF. And Giroud (Giroud!) is currently better than him on what a CF is suppose to do. Then you have the bang average squad on top of that who went games without scoring and were spineless a number of times, making Morata's performances more visible than Torres'.

Not a chance, 2011-12 was shocking and even then the year under Jose/Hiddink was just as bad although we were on about Torres' time at the club. Sure, 11-12 was salvaged due to 2 cup wins but lets not even say that those two cup wins can just magically sweep the 6 months of utter shite that happened in that whole season under the rug. If this team or squad is nowhere near the quality we had in 2012, which had the likes of a 34 year old Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Florent Malouda, Michael Essien, Paulo Ferreira, Ryan Bertrand, Ashley Cole, Raul Meireles, Branislav Ivanovic, Jose Bosingwa, Solomon Kalou... then we are seriously fucked. Or you are just extremely over exaggerating. Maybe a bit more character than this team yes but quality? Not a fucking chance. 2011-12 despite the CL win was a very poor season by all accounts.

There's still so many aspects of Morata's game that trump Lukaku's, I think scoring 20 plus a season consistently might take a while for Morata but I reckon he'll get there eventually but again as a CF when you've got Willians, Pedros, Hazards, Cescs all playing you've got to be able to do more than just get on the end of things. I think despite the lack of goals Morata is better suited to our team than Lukaku would be. I think we'll see a difference next season, Morata has got a good level of ability and I think a years experience of ups and downs in the PL will go a long way in his progression.

I dont think people worry about Moratas qualities on the pitch. We all knew he is rather unreliable and inconsistent.

But fuck I hate his attitude and character. He just looks lost and disinterested, probably doesnt even want to be here and still dreams of playing for Real.

In case like this its better to have someone with less skill but actualy cares for the team and fights to win.

Morata has ability, but he is spineless.

You need someone who will give 110 percent all the time, in game, on training etc. Morata just goes sideways, he doesnt fight and work to improve.

Well according to Metro his teammates think he's a whinger. That might just be an outsider looking in guess but I would say a pretty accurate one. He's complained about English refs, opposition players and his own fitness. I remember when Robben made his debut against Bolton I thought along with everyone else fuck we've got a player here. Going even further back I saw Pat Nevin's debut at Craven Cottage and thought the exact same.

Has everyone forgotten Morata's debut in the Charity Shield ? he was totally unconvincing and has been pretty woeful not Torres standard but come on can anyone say that was 58 million quid well spent ?. The Norwich game was off the scale embarrassing for a so called professional footballer to act like that I think he's been booked in every game he's played in recently he's got to man up or fuck off. The Arsenal game if we'd won that I'm sure we wouldn't be in the position we are now he was again absolutely unconvincing and lightweight.

By the way anyone who thinks the fans should give their undying support for players and it's disloyal to slag them off well when I see a multi millionaire act like a petulant schoolboy I have absolutely no problem calling them out for it.

4-1 at Anfield to Kenny's Liverpool, 3-1 at home to Alex McLeish infected Aston Villa off the top of my head, could even say 3-0 at home to Sunderland the year before or the pitful run and bad displays we had vs United.  Go back to the match threads from the AVB and Carlo second season time and many our players were accused of lacking effort and character so lets not rewrite history here. This team while flawed are a whole lot better than our 2012 team, we were rubbish, the CL was devine intervention.

There’s a logical reason as to why imo. Torres came with the reputation of being one of the deadliest strikers on the planet (could argue that he was the best striker in the world in his prime) whereas Morata does not have the sort of rep and has a lot more to prove.

Given that, I’ve always said that he should be allowed a season or so to bed in anyway so it’s not a shock to see him struggling atm.

That Liverpool game was at the end of the season when we aren't guaranteed top 4 and had CL in our minds. Still disgraceful, but forgiven because we won the FA Cup final over the scousers the week before and I'll take the FA cup win over a useless league win anyday.

The Sunderland game doesn't count as it wasn't part of the 2011/12 season.

Villa game was horrific, sure. But it's not as horrific or a joke as Watford's 4-1 this season.

The 17/18 team is not just flawed, it's seriously flawed. We are toothless in attack. Moses and Alonso so poor. Midfield can easily be overrun.

I didn't say the 2012 team were fantastic. But they gave us the CL. We beat Barcelona, Bayern, Spuds 5-1, Liverpool in the final, 6-1 QPR. We won games that mattered. This 17/18 squad? Did they win ANY game that mattered so far?

Also I'm not rewriting history. I'm not talking about Carlo's season either. I'm comparing the 2011/12 squad to the 2017/18 squad. And I seriously think we will do better with the 2011/12 squad, even though we were awful until AVB's sacking.

I would say being outplayed by an Alex McLeish team on our own patch is a lot worse, that man doesn't know the meaning of the word attack yet cut us open at will. As embarrassing as the Watford game was, they have a good squad and capable players and manager, that Villa side didn't. The flaws you mention in this squad also existed in 2012, and unlike now, we didn't have a core of world class players to compensate. The reality is the situation we found ourselves in during 2012 in CL, we try that another 100 times and we don't as much as get past Napoli on 99 occasions.

Our current situation is not great, but a solid transfer window (big if i know) and we have a side capable of challenging next season. 2012 even with the CL win and arguably our best window ever following suit, we still needed a good few years to get back on our feet again. Imagine if we kept our best players this summer and found similar quality to 2012 versions of Hazard and Azpi, id go as far as saying we would be 2nd favorites right behind City.

That was Javi Gracia's first home game in charge of Watford and he humiliated us. But fine, even if Villa's win against us was worse, this Watford defeat isn't too far off. In fact, close because they both had a very similar story. 1-1, then in the dying minutes of the match the opposition scored a bucketload.

And there you have it. Both squads are flawed (I never said "the 2012 squad was not flawed") but 2012 had a lot of world-class players THEN to pull something out of the hat. We don't this time. I can never ever, expect Morata to pull something out of the hat like Drogba did for example.

And you brought up Napoli. Let's be honest. If this 17/18 squad met that same Napoli then, would you think we would beat them too? We don't have the players to make something happen like the 11/12 team did expect Hazard, but he can't do everything himself.

Well the core of this bunch held their nerve twice in title races, that alone suggests a hell of a lot off mental ability.

Napoli would probably beat us more times than not, but i feel we would do it a lot more than the 2012 side would.
