Did simple things but at least didn't noticeably fuck up, so well played son. Still way off the pace though imo, but it’s a start. Even today he was a little bit sloppy but he had more positivity in his game, and he also had some good actions. If Bakayoko can start translating his presence on the pitch a bit better like today then I think people would have a bit more patience with him. bluesman2610, Beigl, Stats and 2 others

Popular Post! Sideshow Luiz 2,310 Posted January 20, 2018 Popular Post! Share Posted January 20, 2018 Thought he played okay today. We're a different midfield when we're not carrying a passenger.  Still needs to get himself in to better defensive position quicker. Too reactionary at time. Needs to be more proactive all over the pitch. manpe, BlueSunshine, yuvala and 4 others

Pizy 18,909
Quality of opposition and the form of Hazard and Willian should be taken into account. When he isn't asked to do anything difficult he's fine. When the level of opposition is better and he has to pick out tougher passes and be more than just someone who breaks up play that's the real test. xPetrCechx and Unionjack

What a shame...... 90% of your posts are either twitter posts or crap like the above. How about you construct a proper sentence as to why you arent impressed. He did really well today. Passing was decent, intercepted well, even had a decent attempt on goal. Beepu

Without knowing whether it was Bakayokos poor technique that did not impress xPerer today as it seems to impress a lot of folks here, and positively too! but perhaps because of the obvious: the level of the opposition, which led a number of our players to have outstanding games? Except of course Bakayoko who is being praised here for having been only good/decent - more like decent on my tv. But I can see now how this is going to turn into a new mikel thread, and rightfully so - Good for TC, not so much for chelsea fc. Unionjack 7,531
As said by some I dont see how peeps were impressed by him. Passes may have been decent but the vast majority were either sideways or backwards. And was against a very offencively weak team. I understand Contes need to try to get our moneys worth and bring him upto strength but I dont understand why he doesn't be similar with other players. The quicker we try to get Vidal in the better IMHO..

I don't think it's that people were particularly impressed with him in comparison to other players today, but I do feel that the last two games have shown improvement compared to recent weeks. I said the same after the Norwich game, and I stand by it again after today, I'm pleased that he seems to be growing in confidence. He was getting on the ball today and showing himself for it. It sounds ridiculous really, but his confidence has look shot in recent weeks. He's looked abysmal on the ball and been scared to receive it. A lot of his passes have been simple in the last couple of games but its important he goes back to basics, works hard and shows the strength of character to play himself out of the dreadful form he's been in. I do feel like he is taking these steps. In the long term we should all expect far more from him given the amount of money invested in him. But he's young and clearly taking time to adapt to a new league (remembering also he joined after surgery in the summer and was rushed back to play), and hopefully a little time and patience will see him still develop into the player we all hope he will be. Agree ith all you say but it just seems to me we dont give this time and patience to enough players. Theres some who get a couple of minutes here and there and not seen again. But we cant argue Baks has been diabolical some games yet out he trots the next game. I'm all for 2nd chances but not a believer in blind faith. Yes the past 2 games hes had odd moments but I'd upgrade him in a heartbeat.

Agreed but with Drinkwater and Fabregas out injured we don't have much choice but to play him at the moment. Conte has played 3 in midfield a lot this season too and we just haven't had enough midfielders fit to drop him. I personally think we look so much better in a 3-4-3 and our players are more suited to it. Reverting back to that formation will likely give chances to rest him when others are back fit. He did very well considering the circumstances (debut, derby, new league, no pre-season, recovered from injury), but overall it was not of bossing standard. It can work against weak opponents, but imagine this midfield against true powerhouses. It would be same old same old - constantly soaking pressure and unable to keep possession or do anything creative with it. If we want to evolve in our style of play then playing Kante and Baka together won't achieve that. Unionjack

I think a Bakayoko that played for Monaco last season would be suited to it, but he's nowhere near that level currently. I also don't think it completely depends on those two, but other players around them too. If the intention is for two midfielders who can get around the pitch, up and down, pressing and breaking up play, then I agree you need creativity in there too somewhere. But two in midfield gives the two in front complete freedom to drift around. I know Brighton are hardly a great team but Willian and Hazard seemed to flourish today having the freedom to float around and come deep at times to pick the ball up. There should also be a creative expectation on the wing backs to create chances too. At the moment, I don't think its just our midfield but other areas of the pitch that also need either improving or tactically tweaking to get more.

And we like building up from the back - alot of times passing to WBs. But I would happily donate my dangleys for a proper B2B CM. I know another Lamps would be hard to find but wouldn't that be perfect. We need creativity all over the pitch but you'r right. last season when Eden/Willi/Pedro was roaming all over wherever needed they couldn't be marked let alone 2 and 3 on him.But teams expected it at the end and formatted accordingly. Why Contes been so liquid in changing it thru the game. We could be right back on top ith 3/4 upgrades. Superblue
