I am losing faith in Matic with each game. Our problem in the team in my opinion comes from two parts; a lack of creativity in the middle, and a lack of pace from the defenders. Today was a good example of why both these issues will make a title challenge difficult. In terms of defenders I think we are in a better position now, but the midfield is still a huge issue. Fabregas has a lot of flaws, but he is the best passer we have, his presence makes a huge difference. If we are to truly become a challenger, we need to replace both Matic and Oscar, both are average at best right now. I dont know of Maia is the right solution, but Nainggolan would have been perfect. Regardless, I am really happy we got Kante, amazing player. 4 Amen. quickpassnmove

If he's decent, he's good. If he's good, he's great. If he's great, he's Makelele 2.0. It will wear off eventually. That's just how I see it anyway. Not to say he hasn't been good. He's been a valuable addition to the team. I'm just waiting for his form to drop, which is inevitable really, and I want to see how quickly he'll bounce back (if he bounces back at all). I desperately hope he is the real deal. I like his distribution btw. May he keep this simple and clever play on forever. quickpassnmove 924
Yeah, what they said above about having another good CM. Someone on a blog suggested Gana (Aston Villa, now Everton) earlier in the summer. Excellent idea IMO.  What a bargain buy for Everton! I just hope Chalobah gets time. I'm not an Oscar fan despite some of the skills he has. Matic... I just don't know what's going on with him, but it's not good enough. He doesn't combine well with anyone in build-up right now in my view.... so there's Azpi and Matic close to Hazard. Not good enough. Might as well sell the both of them to Italy (or China, elsewhere) and look for a better star MF to go with Kante and the potential we see in Chalobah. It's looking to me like Chelsea need to acquire another top defender, another CM, and another scoring foward (thus the rumours on Griezmann, I guess).  Koke would certainly fit in CM.
MefiX19 1,092
i did not see that when ge was at Leicester, but he can easily escape pressing. Liverpool few times tried to press him, but he just spins and easily escapes them. He is so good, it's unbelieveble that we got him. kellzfresh

Mceachran 109
Why is no one here talking about how kante got turned horribly by ozil and left our two CB's two on two with two of the most lethal players in the league when they're on? Â Why is no one talking about how he was incapable of coming deep into our end and receiving the ball from our CB's to get possession started? Â I think Kante is a solid player, but a lot of people want to hate on Oscar and Matic and say that Fabs doesn't deserve to start on these forums and then nothing on this player? Â Let's be consistent. Â Kante searches for tackles and exposes our defense. Â It worked with LCFC because they stayed so compact and sat back. Â It doesn't work sometimes for us, which means he is quite tactically faulty... something everyone wants to criticize DL for. Â

DYC. 7,542
Base of the pitch isn't his home. The subtleness, tactical discipline and the responsibility in the build-up play of the role doesn't suit him. He's much better with the tactical freedom to search and destroy. But he's the best option atm because the next best option in that role is Obi, but he's just too immobile (and too limited overall). But it wouldn't surprise me if Conte would turn to Obi at some point and move Kante to CM (not necessarily on permanent basis but for a while). As fans, we like to overrate young players, especially if they came through the academy. He did produce some decent stuff, I agree, and because of that I think he deserves a few chances, but he didn't ride that Napoli bench all of last season for nothing. Did not impress for years before that as well. Him coming in and somehow performing against all odds would be great but you have to be realistic. His mom dying is horrible (didn't know that) but that doesn't change the fact that he hasn't performed in years. My point is these young players get praised into the heavens by (most) fans because they lack that ability to be critical of 'their own' or fail to see the advantages of the physical qualities at youth level. Did not impress for years before that as well. Him coming in and somehow performing against all odds would be great but you have to be realistic. I'm talking about the attributes he has as a player more than anything. I've watched Chalobah for years and what he is, which is one thing we severely lack in the team at the moment, is a leader. Just a natural leader. He's defensively very adept having played as a CB for most of his youth career before moving up into midfield. He's got more than enough football IQ when it comes to positioning himself in front of the defence and has more than enough ability on the ball when it comes to distributing it from the back or base of the midfield. He's comfortable at that. My point is that he has the attributes to play the role well, it's a role that's quite natural to him and he could blossom. The most important thing is that it can free up Kante to become a destroyer all over the pitch. I'm not saying he'll come in and perform miracles but he can definitely do a job. The dude hasn't reached his full potential yet either, so could, as you said, blossom. I don't think him coming in and doing ok is against the odds though. I believe in his talent and just think he needs to be given a chance.  MefiX19, Amblève., Beepu and 1 other
BlueLyon 9,359
Why the fuck would our youth care and try if they know they will go straight on loan for next 4 years? They know they wont get the chance. The best way they succeed is if they have couple of good loans in some shithole and after they spent their youth in london at club like chelsea, the change is too much. And even then there is 5% chance they will succeed here. So why bother? Any ambitious player we have would FORCE a transfer away like Pogba did at united. BlueLyon 9,359
Our club is treating players like assets, tools, products. Not like humans and our future. Youth has all the right to treat the club in the same way back.
BoyBlue96 990
Kanté gets a lot of hate on social media and the media itself saying he's shit and nowhere near his Leicester form. I say: bullshit. He's doing just fine. It's just that our other midfielders and defenders are shit so he has to cover way too much ground.
