Muzchap 8,966
Agreed. I think we should add an addendum to the over-30s contract rule.One-year extensions for players over the age of 30 UNLESS you are the best player in the world in your opinion (any poll involving Platini or Blatter is invalid). The only valid poll for those c**ts is a sacking poll!!!!

Bir_CFC 3,455
For all the big deal people are making about Frank, this is the guy we need to hold on to. You get him to sign a contract this January, or give Bertrand the lion's share of the playtime so he can do the job come next season. Good fullbacks are not easy to come by. They'll come at a premium, which in this already inflated market will not be good business.

They'll come at a premium, which in this already inflated market will not be good business. What do you mean 'good fullbacks' - Ashley Cole is the best left back in the world & in all reality has been for the last 6 years. You're a complete fool & severely lacking in actual understanding of football if you don't think he deserved to be in the team of the year ahead of Marcelo. The reality is that we need to keep hold of both of them at all costs, because it is just pure insolence to allow world class players to walk out the door for absolutely nothing. There is only more of a focus on Frank at the moment because he has been at the club for almost 12 years & is the greatest Chelsea player to have ever walked out at the Bridge - & he just happens to have hit top form & fitness after coming back from injury, making the club's stance even more perplexing & incomprehendable.Cole is a legend in his own right, but if JT is the current reigning king of Stamford Bridge - then Lamps is the half-blood prince. The fact is that if they don't get what they more than deserve & United manage to sign them both for free this summer, allowing them beef up their defense & invest in a world class keeper with all of the budget they have will have saved - then they are probably going to win everything for the next 3 seasons.I don't know about you, but I'm not really willing to allow two of our best players to just walk away at the end of their glorious glittering Chelsea careers - only for any one of our rivals to snap them up & give them a chance to show us just how grave a mistake we will have made. It is simply illogical in every sense of the word. That is why this entire situation with both of them is so maddening for even rival & neutral supporters, as well as world class players, revered managers & many of the few not-entirely-incompetant pundits.Any club in the world would jump at the chance to have them in their team - apart from their current one it seems. Cole's just getting older really. His technique and stuff is good, but honestly, between Baines's free kicks, experience, and leadership qualities, along with his excellence, I would choose him over Cole. His technique and stuff is good, but honestly, between Baines's free kicks, experience, and leadership qualities, along with his excellence, I would choose him over Cole.I rate Baines massively & have done for many years, there is no doubt in my mind that he is definitely only second best to Cole. However, as magnificent as Baines is going forward - Ashley's defensive ability is unrivalled.Do you remember the CL semis & final against Barca & Bayern, easily the two best teams in the world at the time? Cole was impeccable & managed to keep players like Messi, Iniesta, Lahm & Robben quiet for the vast majority of those matches, which played an enormous part in actually winning us the trophy. I'm not sure I've seen a more inspirational display from a defender in recent times. You could tell he played his heart out in those games - because he left it on the pitch for all to see.I would rather have that kind of quality & commitment at left back than Leighton Baines. As impressive as his constant & rapid improvement & growth as a player has been over the last few years, I don't think he's quite there yet.Baines will have a claim to best in the world if/when Ashley falls significantly below his own standards - but for now - only those who don't rate Cole in any case would choose to make such audacious statements. Jype 6,398
Do people seriously want Cole to stay? He's been absolutely horrible for the past couple of years in most matches. Of course there are occasionally glimpses of the best LB in the world Ashley was only a few years ago, including his heroics in the Champions League last season, but he's become lazy and most of the time he simply doesn't bother showing up anymore. Kind of like Patrice Evra, but without the constant attacking threat. Styles and Stats

Makes the few errors but overall very strong, fast, creates and has scored a few this season. Ashley Cole is just a shadow of his former self
OReillyD36 311
It's obvious his head isn't in it anymore, what has he to play for when he has been told that he no future at the club beyond this season. Should replace him now, while it's a hard thing to do better to do it now then wait till the summer. It's the same with Lampard, if he wasn't chasing that record would he play with the same desire? His future has only became unclear last season when AVB didn't fancy him anymore and the fact is that he simply isn't that good anymore. He won't all of a sudden start playing better again if he gets a new contract. If that was the case, shouldn't he be playing as well as he possibly can to ensure he gets the best deal from whichever club he decides to join in the summer? Can't imagine the likes of Real Madrid or PSG being too interested if he plays like shit for the rest of the season. Stats

Hes a legend but being a legend doesn't make him invincible to not having his contract renewed. Cole is needed more than Lampard at the moment, deny that and your nuts. I'd sacrifice Lamps for Cole right now, even though I hate to say such a thing, both would be great as long as you tell Lampard he won't be starting 40 games a season now but he feels he can play every game still so maybe its better he goes. This has been stated many times, AVB was turfed out because of him whinging about playing 150 mins over 3 games. I don't care who you install as manager, would Lamps accept that? Probably not. Corner
