He is also wrong too. If i'm not mistaken when a buyout is triggered it is the player who has to pay the tax, not the club, we saw this with Cesc and Costa.

Having said that 200m plus wages and the tax(player paid) is a shit ton of money that I don't think Turkish Airlines or Adidas will pony up for.

If after the elections Messi decides he still wants to leave then and only then will they look to move him. clearly the buyout will not be triggered for any deal involving Messi because the amount of money associated with it will just astronomical.

Messi asks to be moved, board decide they've had enough, Messi is made available at a more affordable number.

Really?? How would any player be okay with that? It's a lot of money.

Even though Balague might not be the most credible person to listen to, what he said makes a lot of sense. I forgot that with the buy out clause, the buying club needs to give the money to the player to pay out his contract, so there will be tax in that transaction. It would cost any team hundreds of millions to get Messi and Barca wouldn't want to sell, so buy out is a must. That's alot of money for anyone to splash, maybe too much. Unless there are help from sponsors ;)

I thought it was the player?

So basically Messi's buyout will not be triggered(which is good news) if he's to be moved the club and the player will have to come to an agreement that they've had enough, or Messi will just come to them and demand a move. None of that will happen before the elections though... Messi moving is still just plausible as it was yesterday if you ask me. He wasn't gonna miss out on playing in the Champions League by moving in January anyways.

Agent usually pays it or clubs negotiate just below the buyout to avoid the tax.

That is if the club wants to negotiate. In this case, why would Barcelona want to sell the best player in the world? Obviously I don't know what they think but if they want to keep him then I imagine that they would reject even if the bid is $1 less than the buy out.

And I don't know how rich agents are to be able to pay millions of pounds/euros.

I really don't know myself, I just remember reading about the buy out clause months ago. I think it was in this forum when someone brought up that if Chelsea paid Costa's buy out clause, it would've been more than £32m since there will be the extra tax cost. I could remember wrong.

Because the best player in the world doesn't want to be there. He's getting killed on taxes, he's missing practices, he's hating the management and that generally doesn't end well for the club. If Messi forces their hand by airing his grievances they will have next to no choice but to appease him...

As far as agents go they have loads of money! and also keep in mind buyouts are rarely triggered, let alone a buyout the size of Messi's usually we're talking about a few million not 150m. When it comes to that I would assume the club will just accept a little less and let the disgruntled player leave.

almost sure it is the player who has to pay it.

Ah okay then, that makes sense.

Pogba, Reus & Varane or Messi?? ;)

I know you love Pogba.

It would be Messi in a heartbeat if we could get him in either this window or the next. He'd still have 4 quality years for us and having a living legend on our roster only boosts the club's overall appeal and value... anything after these two windows and I'm starting to question it.

Pogba is the next target on my books. He is a special talent and if you look at the midfield trio of Matic, Fab and Pogba you instantly salivate at the glands... The most dominant midfield for the next 5 yrs, no doubt.

Reus is next because his buyout is affordable. I don't like his injury history so he's not too high on my want list... I'd take a crack at him for 20m though.

Varane is a beast but in what world will Real Madrid sell?

Nobody with the right mind will spent 200m for one player. If that happened, it would be very easy for any defender to just break his leg and there goes 200m flying.

If we have that kind of money, we better spend it for 4 WC players to boost our squad greatly, rather than just add one superstar winger. With that money we could get Pogba, Varane, Reus and still have 70+ millions left, which I couldn't think any other player we need, because I think we will be 'complete' with only those 3.

For heavens sake! No team has 200m just lying around. The reason this deal hasn't been ruled off completely is because of our ties with Adidas and Turkish Airlines(who don't come into the equation until next year). If they come in, and many believe it would be in their interest to do so, then we can go ahead and think about messi's buyout. This wouldn't be true for any of Pogba, Varane or Reus so please stop throwing their names around as alternatives...

Also, a buyout clause is a deterrent, meaning the amount is set to ward off potential buyers. In Messi's case if he decides he doesn't want to be at Barca anymore then his release clause won't have to be triggered in order to get Barca to sell, an unhappy Messi would be enough to make sure the clubs involved can reach an agreement.

This is something for the summer now as it always was... I don't know why people think that because we're rumoured to be in for Messi it means we have 200m to spend, it doesn't.

I know. I still don't believe Messi want to go. He might be unhappy, yes, because he is still human. Barca will do anything to make him happy back, including getting rid of their manager.

About the Adidas or Turkish will help the fund, I don't believe it yet, as it is just a rumour created on Twitter. More like an assumption because those 2 are also Messi's sponsors. Also tbh, I don't think they will giving that crazy money to begin with.

We're not any closer to get Messi than any other club imo. Media distracted all of us, make it we are 'in front' to sign him, but in reality not. No evidence Messi want to leave, no indication Barca will let him go (Barca president confirmed it) below 200m, no evidence Adidas and Turkish will want to help the fund, no guarantee he will choose to go to Chelsea if he want to leave, and most importantly, no sign we (Jose) are interested to sign him. Nothing.

This is almost an impossible transfer for me. It needs to tick all the check boxes, to make this deal happening. At the moment, no check box has been tick, yet.
