Fabregas can play at the top level for at least 4/5 more years, would be ridiculously retarded if we sold him.

I guess the million dollar question would be, does he want to stay and fight for a part time role specially if we get more midfielders in?

It's tough. He could leave, to lets say AC Milan, but they're still just starting a new project. He'd have to wait/toil before AC Milan consistently challenge for trophies like we do. He's 30 now - he'll want to win as many trophies as he can before he ensues into garbage time. He could stay in a competitive squad at CFC, challenge for trophies consistently whilst being a pretty decisive player. The thing about Cesc, not many in the world can do what he does. His skillset is very unique, so it'd be difficult to replace him. Early indications show that he and Conte have a mutual respect for each other, and he seems to be a fantastic professional who understands that it's a squad game and sometimes you can't play, but who knows what he truly thinks?

I think the best thing for him to do is to stay here as the '6th man' if I may borrow the NBA term. He can become part of a fantastic Chelsea project, and genuinely write his name in the history books here if he wants, because no matter how many midfielders we bring in - unless its someone like Verratti or Thiago for example - he will always have a place.

Perfectly put. When you think about it, Cesc is one of our most irreplaceable players. You just can't find players that can read games, pass, and control matches like he does.

Theres absolutely no way we should even consider selling him unless Cesc himself demands it. And even then it has to be abroad. Will play huge part for us in Europe and the league next season.

First thing first ... I completely agree with u on the skill set thing and what he bring to the team is definitely unique. One of the difference between Spurs and us in terms of the title race has been the different profiles of players we have against them which is one of the reason we are ahead.  And I would want him to be part of the Chelsea even next yr because he can give a lot when used smartly.

However my worry is that he has now won what he was always missing in his resume infact it could be 2 of those now. He could well be thinking that I wouldnt be getting starting roles going forward so be part of a project where I can get more game time. At this age most of the players think that I could have 2-3-4 years left in me, make the most of it rather then being used less ... unless U have a long term association with the club which Cesc doesnt, I doubt he would stay which will be a loss.

I wish he stays and be part of this fantastic project like you mentioned.

Still one of the best playmakers in the world. I hope that Conte will use him in the same way as he used Pirlo because Fabregas is the one of few players that can play the "Regista" role perfectly. Chelsea need to keep him because his passing skills and vision will never go down. and only players who can replace him are Verratti and Thiago as someone said here before.

This is the other line of thinking Cesc could have, but from what we've seen it looks like he values trophies a lot. He still has a big, big role to play here. Don't forget - he hasn't won the CL yet. He has a chance to do so at CFC - he knows we need to improve the squad for that to happen which it looks like we will. He said this 2 years ago:

Quote

‘The Champions League is the competition I still need to win,’ he said. ‘It would give me enormous satisfaction.

'We have a great team. I do not know if it will happen this year, next year or in the next five years. That is football. Football will decide.

‘I’ve played in a Champions League final, four semi-finals. You are there, you practically touch it, you get so close… I hope I can experience that moment one day.’

If he still has the same ambitions, staying here is the best option for him IMO. Where else will he go? Real have Kroos, he won't go back to Barcelona, Juventus have a top playmaker in Pjanic, Bayern have plenty in midfield... PSG has Verratti. CFC is genuinely his best chance.

I hope so too that he stays with us ... Have my fingers crossed on him ...

Remember this...

PS - our away kit this season was incredibly sexy.

What a ball. And he makes it look so easy. When it comes to long passing he truly is a juggernaut.

When Messi and Fabregas made waves as teenagers I thought they were both going to be huge players. Messi exceeded expectations and turned into a football god. Fabregas didn't become a great as he never impacted the uper echelon of football and turned out to be a bit too flawed. But he's still one of the best midfielders of his generation and won almost everything there is to win. So yeah, plenty to be proud of and he will be remembered fondly.

But then again, at 30, he still has time to deliver a top CL campaign or excel at the World Cup. Who knows?

Conte can really prolong his career at the top level I think. Look what he did with Pirlo. He can still do more, he's matured very well as a guy... and like you said who knows? He could have a fantastic 3-5 years - let's say he wins the CL, some other cups and a league or two more here - if that's the case he can truly be remembered as a great.

I hope so. He should definitely start in the CL next season. At that tempo he definitely makes the team stronger.
