RoyalBlues 4,050
I am still feeling there is sometimes an 'awkward' moments between Chelsea and Fabregas in his first season. The way he celebrate a goal, between want or holding back to kissed the badge, in the end kissing his shirt. Maybe in 2-3 years from now, he (and we) will get used to it. kellzfresh 7,229
Ouch. There's more too: http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2015/apr/26/arsenal-cesc-fabregas-chelseaI Just read the article. And so he has become a containable high-class player, a kind of footballing Stephen Hawking, the trundling mega‑brain in need of a supporting entourage to wheel him into place.Damn it's harsh... Blue-in-me-Veins 4,067
Dayum! Some harsh truths in that bit there..I think that's why JM has struggled in the big games, because he knows we need more 'steel' in the CM area, so he can push Cesc upwards, and his defensive contribution (or lack thereof) won't hurt us as much. I think it's clear JM wants another Luiz-Matic pairing (not another DM/CB but a more physical CM).But nobody can deny his immense contributions to helping us unlock the defenses to the lower teams..and for that we were able to win the league. There's more too: http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2015/apr/26/arsenal-cesc-fabregas-chelsea Isn't it a bit cheap for journalists to write such articles at a time like this? Would he have written that say in the first half of the season?? jeronimo, ILoveLamp and stroey
Barbara 15,149
yeah, let's put his every single mistake in 90 minutes of football under the microscope so maybe we could be convinced he didn't change our style completely and only when his own form dropped we looked so lost and uninspired. In the same breath let's all agree Coutinho has done much more than Fabregas and has way less deficiencies in his games (assisting seems one of them)... the things those journalists write. He played better some recent matches, but still not to the level of the first half of the season. His level dropped considerably, it's undeniable. It's also undeniable he led us for months in the competition we're about to be crowded champions. He has his shortcomings, but the improvement and quality his bring is much bigger and makes up for it. Bitter people are just that, bitter. Bir_CFC 3,455
The objective has been cleared explained by Jose. And it's to play a proactive passing fluent football, which we were in the beginning of the season. And in that system, which Jose wants, Cesc shines. Now if we're going to play reactive counter attacking, he isn't the best option. As witnessed by his drop in performances. Yeah he might be fitting in RIGHT NOW but the objective is not to play this way all the time. Jose is still building this team. We've played good football for longer periods than last season and I expect it to increase next season and so on.

MrExcalibur100 7,124
You should always take any Guardian related Chelsea/Mourinho article with a pinch of salt. Many of their writers don't like our club or/and manager. Yes, Fabregas has his strengths and weaknesses like every player in world football, but he's still had an excellent season and is the best central midfielder in the league. He's been a very vital cog in what has been a season of complete dominance from Chelsea, something Ronay states in the article. The article just has a "I've run out of content to write about, so let me pick on a popular player so my article can gain attention" vibe. Similar to the article the same writer did on Henry a couple of days ago. The line about Stephen Hawking's disability I thought was out of order and i'm surprised that past the persistently ultra-PC Guardian's editing staff. Barney Ronay is usually one of their better writers but that was a terrible, contradictory and pointless article from him. stroey
dmode 113
Does someone have a gif of his pass to Oscar ? I don't think any other present day footballer can play that pass. Very similar to his pass to Costa during the first leg vs Arsenal. The weight, the flight, and the accuracy from 40 yards out is just unbelievable. I am pretty sure Costa would have converted that. CeleryFC 373
Yellow card to be rescinded surely?I don't think they generally rescind yellow cards unless it was mistaken identity or something. Cescs yellow for "diving" against Southampton never got rescinded. We're top of the list for cards for diving, but most of them weren't even dives. mikeholiday

lionsden 4,689
Apart from his creative passing (when he's on form) what other apsect of his game actually stands out? He can be very sloppy in possession especially under pressure, he can't shield the ball at all (All that time he spent with the masters of the art of ball shielding Xavi and Iniesta counted for nothing), He can't dribble, He's very lightweight literally and in terms of his game play, His first overall passing can be inconsistent (I agree with styles here). It's fair to say he's one of the most limited high profile players around.
