Jase 43,479
Hey? most think he is a good member to have around the squad but won't get further than the squad role, which is no shame, every squad needs a Ryan Bertrand in it.That part goes in hand with the point of the whole post. Don't quote it out of context..
Bir_CFC 3,455
It's pathetic just cause Jose doesn't play him people are now using that to say Ryan isn't a good defender. My criticism with him has always been his offensive contribution. I can't recall the last time he was found wanting in defence.<br />Azpi started out a little lost but he did very good overall but I don't see why Bertrand would have been a weakness. CHOULO19 24,332
I disagree on that; If I would want a very good one on one defender, I would pick Azpilicueta over Bertrand. At Marseille, there was a match where he kept Ribery in his pocket.I would to, but Jose said it in a manner to imply that Azpi is more physically fit. I'm not disagreeing with him because he obviously watches the training and knows best who's physically better, it's just that I would have thought it to be Ryan, not Cesar. YouNameIt 1,511
So what? People speak of Bertrand like as if he is a Conference level defender or one like Bosingwa. If we are to say whether a player should start the next game based on their performances like what Mourinho has supposedly been doing, then Bertrand certainly deserves one yesterday after the Cardiff game and he has proven himself more than good enough to play games like this last season in place of Cole.Getting to start a game doesnt have to do with what a player "deserves" or not. In a game of importance like this satisfying a player isnt relevant what so ever. Winning the game and implementing the tactics the manager is going for is, and by doing that he chooses the players who can do that/he thinks can do that the best. No. I said as much as Bertrand more shown he is more than equipped last season to be playing in such games..Winning the game and implementing the tactics the manager is going for is, and by doing that he chooses the players who can do that/he thinks can do that the best. Not that I'm disputing that point but it's all good that playing Azpi at LB worked on Tuesday. Had the selection failed then, I wonder what would have people made of it...Guess we'll never know..And just a side note, I wonder how many times in previous years with our other managers when they made selections like Mourinho has made this season, people used the same reason as you mentioned or the one Choulo stated above to justify their decision. I remember some getting sticks from the fans for making similar decisions even if those decisions worked out in the end...

I wasn't trying to justify his selection, I was telling you what Jose himself said about it after the match. I even questioned his reasoning by saying that I always thought that Ryan was the fitter between the two.Is this what I get for trying to help you out here! I was merely highlighting the part where you said "he obviously watches training and know who is psychically better" and in the context of my point, "Mourinho trains them and watches them in training. He knows best!" as a reason that people basically used these days to justify his selection/decision and anyone that questions him is wrong etc. But yet under our previous managers, you don't see many or the same people using the same reason to justify their decisions. Instead, all those managers got lambasted most of the time but because this is Mourinho, all sorts of leeway and reasons or even excuses are given.. Bosnian Blue 2,471
He had one bad game at LB in his entire Chelsea career, I thought he deserved a start against Schalke. But onwards and upwards, lets hope he'll play on Sunday.

I've been criticizing Jose on various subjects and decisions since he came back, but I said he knows best regarding this, not because he is Mourinho, but because we were talking about who is physically better. So I said Jose knows better because he gets to see the players train in the gym and make sprints and other physical trainings that we can't see in games. If we were talking about technical ability or any other skill I would not have sad so.

Popular Post! Stats 7,142 Posted October 29, 2013 Popular Post! Share Posted October 29, 2013 If there was ever a game that Bertrand could show he was capable of doing a shift at LB at the expense of Cole, this was it. Was superb. Was excellent in defence and done ever so well going forward. His work rate was phenomenal and made Myiachi look average. Like I said before, he is not a weak link for us and takes his chances when he gets them. Hope he can get more minutes. Capable of filling in when needed and generally doesn't get embarrassed by his opponent. It must be hard for Bertrand though...if he had asked for a move to a mid-table side, he'd most likely be the starting LB.. BlueLyon 9,359
I dont know why would he only be squad player? With more games given (talking about 20+), he will further develop and he clearly can put shift in games against bigger sides. But at Chelsea, he is marked as sub and Mou wont even realy test him I guess...This lad aint there yet, but you cant expect too much development from man who isnt being given enough time.
