Hope its just bullshit. He was a Chelsea player, then was involved in David Luiz deal. Now we just buy him back for 20m...it makes David Luiz the most expensive CB of all time.

Not sure if you're trolling with that comment, but I'll bite.

I don't know Matic as a player but people seem to rate him and if Jose/the scouting network thinks he's a good fit then why not go for him when CM is a glaring weakness for us? For the sake of pride/embarrassment? That is bullshit. We have to be ruthless to win, and that means not caring about what people think about us when we chuck a player away for peanuts and then buy him back for 5 x the price, hell even 10x the price -- it doesn't matter. I do not remember anyone believing Matic would reach this level and he has done amazingly well to improve so vastly that we are interested in bringing him back. Who cares about the effect it has on DL's price?

Ultimately, if he improves our team and does not have a detrimental effect on our finances then we should go for it; it really isn't an issue that he was once a Chelsea player or that it would make DL such an expensive player.

We are buying Matic because he is the best DM available out there and I don't object to that move in any way.

Our defence improved significantly and we conceded like 1 goal in last 6 matches including Arsenal and Liverpool and people feel offended when I say that defensive midfielder won't improve us dramatically.

About Matic he has his moments of brilliance and his pass range is better than Mikel but he ain't creative enough to solve our CM issues by himself or even with Ramires.

Matic is destoryer way more than a playmaker and Rami needs to run in order to pass long distance.

With two of them, imo, we have two central midfielders with ordinary passing abilities but nothing spectacular.

We will need better than that when new striker comes and to beat City in 38 games . Imo

I wonder what happened with MVG but even he fit could make better central midfield with Matic.

Out of players out there Rakitic would make good combo with Matic. He is quality CM who plays alongside destroyer.

Never mind, just because we are buying him due to his qualities as DM, does that really mean that he is what we need most atm?

Jose said in public that we need striker but we aren't buying one. Because DM is our priority?

Who can be sure that Jose thinks Matic is all it takes? He is not alergic to CMs, he bought Modric.

The fact is we didn't have proper DM, CM or striker and who knows who will we buy next.

These are the same people who thought Fernandinho would be a terrible signing, Javi Martinez was overpriced and Arsenal didn't "need" Ozil. Matic will prove the doubters wrong fairly quickly if he comes.

Funny thing is, I thought Fernandinho was a great signing albeit a bit overpriced, thought Javi Martinez was exactly what Bayern needed and wasn't really surprised at his price.

Ozil again was another signing I thought made sense, but I'm not really feeling the Matic signing, especially at 35m euros. I think he's worth 25m max. As someone else said above we'd still need another midfielder if we wanted to have a collective group as good as City's or Bayern's or Real's or Barca's etc.

It's an interesting signing though.

I don't know the man well enough to give a valid opinion, I'll stick to what Mou thinks.

I've watched enough Benfica games last season and this (around 10) to have a decent enough opinion on him.

He isn't a bad signing at all but some people seem to have a very different idea to the sort of player he is. Personally I think he's more of a pure CDM with a bit more finesse. He's not in the DLP category people seem to put him in IMO.

How exactly will this make Luiz the most expensive CB of all time? Matic wasn't worth 25m back then. Just because he's improved and is now more valuable than he was, that doesn't change the value he had at the time of his first transfer.

That said, Matic + 25m for Luiz was indeed a horrible deal.
