Probably have the biggest squad in PL history

The only way this is even bearable is if Willian becomes a squad player but if this season is anything to go by, Lampard will continue his love-in with Willian and play him in every game.

If that turns out to be the case, then the situation is stupid. One minute Lampard is preaching youth, and the next he is playing over-the-hill players over them. That is without mentioning the new signings - in Ziyech's case - may be blocked by Willian and may block others.

I do not see Willian on the bench, sadly and I would leave if I was CHO either on loan or getting sold. Ziyech will have to perform to his best asap or otherwise Willian will be playing every match.

We have way too many players. Ruben, Barkley, Mount, Havertz, Kante, Kova, Billy and Jorgi are just midfielders lol.
On the wing we have CHO, Puli, Willian, Ziyech and all of them apart from CHO expect to be a starter.
CF we have Werner, Tammy, Giroud for next season and either Tammy or Giroud will have to leave if they want to get some match time.

I think Willian will retire here at Chelsea lol.

Oh well... did not see that coming. Willian has been surprisingly durable but will continue to be one of the most frustrating players ever. I can see him starting a lot of games to give us ‘balance’ at least in the first half of next season.
Willian had one of the best seasons of his career and his his shoes exactly we we should let him go. The amount do goals created or scored Form open play by him is abysmal given the huge amounts of time he spends in the ball. Time he takes away from our actually creative players. Our attacks are considerable shorter lived without him still we have no issues scoring goals without him.  And it is not that he adds any form of leadership despite being one of the most senior guys on the squad

Exactly why I said I have no idea what squad is Lampard trying to build here.

And on top of that list, Werner and Havertz can also be options on the wing, which makes it all the more LOL!

I think what has happened with Willian is that he got some amazing offee pre-Covid and was going to roll with that - rumours had Le Arse offering 3 years + £200k+ a week. That deal must be off the table. My money is us giving him having something like £150k for 2 years + 1 year if he hits certain targets. That works out to about £15.5m for two years, which is probably cheaper than buying someone.

As for the squad, I do actually understand the need for Willian/AM4. In my opinion, people need to forget about Mount and Harvetz being AM's, those boys are going to be No.8/No.10, Mount may even end up No.6 if he can become more disciplined and improve his tackling.

For me, the squad will be;

CM: Mount, Harvetz, RLC, Kova, Kante, Gilmour/Jorgi*

* Jorgi sold or Gilmour loaned

AM: Puli, Willian, CHO, Ziyech

CF: Werner, Giroud, Tammy

For me, Barkley is a gonna and I cannot see Jorgi/Gilmour both being in the squad. Biggest worry is Kante, if his fitness doesn't return we could be easy prey without the ball in the middle. A real decision will need to be made on selling him. Partey still has a €45m buyout.

As for Willian, he is a very good bench option. I am not a massive fan of his owing to output but if you think of him as a bench player to be used to take sting out of games as he can come on and ball retain/help out the RB, he actually makes quite a bit of sense.

Willian's extension would be a total slap to the face for CHO. I for one don't think we even need a fourth winger because having Puli, Ziyech and CHO is already more than enough when Mount, Werner and potentially Havertz can fill in there when needed (which in turn would open up more game time for the likes of Tammy, RLC etc. in their respective positions).

Tammy / Werner / Pulisic / Ziyech / CHO / Havertz / Mount / RLC / Kovacic / Kante / Gilmour / Jorginho

That's 12 players for 6 positions in the team (assuming Havertz is completed) which would be quite good for squad depth and quality. If Willian continues who will be the odd man out? And that's even without counting players like Giroud, Barkley whose futures are still up in the air. If either of them are still part of the squad next season there will definitely not be enough game time for everyone to stay happy and keep developing.

Fact is with three new signings (Werner, Ziyech, Havertz) some will have to leave and I'd hate to lose or totally marginalize any of the academy lads (CHO, RLC) just to keep Willian around.

I.....actually don't mind it. We will have a squad that rivals City's in terms of outstanding depth.

Being able to completely rotate the attack and still having Willian, Giroud, CHO, RLC, and Barkley to bring in would be insane. Though surely 1 midfielder will have to be sold.

I dont see the harm. Willian takes Pedro's position on the bench. This is his last major contact. I imagine its a financial thing. Can't see him complaining.

CHO will be third choice winger. Willian fourth.

Why?  Just tell someone why he's deserving to stay?  He's been average player for us every year scoring 4-5 goals. Is it normal for winger to score few goals?  From the begining of 2013 when we signed him from Anzhi I had the feeling that he will be poor for us. And I was right. Instead paying 100k to him rather sign Boga someone else who will perform better then him. And i'm 100% sure we can find it. Seems like club offer him contract due to respect and nothing else. What a waste of money.
