If we are going to continue playing 4-2-3-1, we need a player of his ilk and quality, well to be a top top top team we do. This team has so much potential so getting a playmaker and a striker is the next step now that we have the coach we want.

I don't think there's a player who could match his quality and he won't sign for us. Mayne we are reely reely screwed if We didn't get atleast someone half of his quality, LOL everyones so busy with Cavani and Hulk. FACT IS We could win the title with Torres, Ba and Lukaku. But we won't without a geniune DLP and DM.

I've been wanting Alonso for a while. It's a shame he doesn't have too many years left and his best is behind him. He can still be a classy midfielder for a couple years, maybe 3 even.

At his current level he'd be still one of the best Deep Lying playmakers/Midfielders in the League and hopefully can resist decline or even improve with Age ala Pirlo.

Pirlo has always been great, it's just that he gained more fame with the Panenka penalty in the Euros.

Would love to have Xabi Alonso here but as mentioned before it won't happen.

You also have to factor in that Pirlo's been able to go on so long because of Serie A. While it remains a cliché that Serie A is more slow paced than the other leagues, it doesn't mean it's not true. It's a more tactical league too, which is why Pirlo's been able to keep his fitness and tactical awareness sharp. Whether Xabi can replicate what Pirlo's been able to do will depend on a lot more variables.

Gica Craioveanu, former Sociedad, Villareal, Getafe and Romanian National Team player, football commentator in Spain and with some friends inside Real Madrid had an interview with Digi Sport, main and best rated sport channel in Romania: "Xabi Alonso has not extended his contract with Real Madrid because he'll go to Chelsea this summer. Real Madrid and Chelsea have agreed terms weeks ago and Xabi will sign with the blues. I can assure you this transfer will surely go through, Mou wants him badly knowing that he likes to variate tactics during games and play with three defensive minded midfielders at times, so Xabi couldn't miss from his squad."
