FA Cup tie is a huge priority. We should play a weaker side.

Try Moses as a CF. Play Marin too so we can play Mata,Hazard, Oscar behind Ba on Monday

You start talking like Liverpool supporter last year. Winning fa cup is nice but playing in UCL is far more important both financially and for our ability to attract really good player

I know that UCL is far far more important, but what's wrong with playing Moses and Marin? Are they that bad that they can't even beat Southampton?

That game is our 'insurance policy' but no guarantee we'll win that game. It's Fulham at the Cottage as well!

On paper, maybe so but the truth is they're not our best players in the team. Play our strongest team here, win the game and then only start thinking about the FA Cup.

Yes but I would not risk dropping points here for the sake winning trophies by putting out a weaker team given the situation right now.

yes that's true. I'm not saying to field a really weak side. I am saying to field Moses and Marin (and maybe even Yossi). Moses can play as CF and Mata and Hazard can start and Oscar can replace one of them (or vice versa). We can field a strong side for both games since we've had more rest leading into the Southampton game (6 days)

Our finishing definitely needs to improve in comparison to last game.

Torres most likely going to start just because Ba had one bad game and that's a big no no for Benitez

Torres is a better player than BA . But he was rested even after a very good game last week. Torres should play against United, so it may be that Ba should play against Southampton to restore his confidence. You could see Ba's confidence leaking fast in the last game. But we can't afford to allow that to continue - we need at least two strikers. Besides we should be able to score against Southampton even with a stuttering Ba as long as he stretches the defence with his runs.

Torres is getting a good rest in the international break and should be fresh for Utd.

I'd certainly prioritize this one over the FA Cup tie but I have a feeling we'll play our strongest lineup in both.

Need 100% of the points from these poor sides before we play the likes of Spuds, United, and Everton again. We also have to hope Arse slips up in some of those games that they should be winning to give us a bit of room incase we fuck up and draw or lose a game we shouldn't.

Torres should start this one - we can bring Ba on if needed. Ba needs to be fit and ready for the United game, first and foremost. Plus Torres has been good enough in his last two/three games to lead the line successfully, IMO.

Yes. As has been said repeatedly by manager and players, his contributions are not restricted to goals. He plays his part in defence in dead-ball situations, in holding the ball in building an attack, drawing away defenders for Mata and the others and also he scores goals. Did you know he has 16 goals - one of the the highest scorers in the PL despite his recent barren spell? Just because he is not as successful as he was at LFC does not mean he is not successful. And he has done all this in the face of supporter booing and mockery and propaganda posters outside the ground etc. He didn't get any of that rubbish at Athletico Madrid or LFC where the supporters understand how to be supportive of a confidence player.

No please, let's not turn this into yet another Torres vs Ba thread. Take it to the players threads if you want..

Southampton should not be underestimated. They play some very good football and are in great form. They completely outplayed Liverpool at the weekend. Start a full strength team then take off key players if things are going well. Even if you have the Utd game in mind, I think going into it with momentum is more important than resting players.

You never fail to take a dig at Chelsea supporters, yet you say you are one. Isn't that a little bit strange?
