Fernando Torres

Have said this and bummed to yet to be proved wrong, but I just don't think they can play together. And even if they could play together a bit--they naturally have huge oversize number one striker egos that prevents the little bit of cooperation. I don't think that's something that can be changed. I'd rather one of them sit. I love Torres and of course want him to play but I'd rather he sit than play in a screwed up formation that only adds to his off form. It's the story of his national team career. Too talented to leave on the bench but completely unsuited to the style of play--so he's used to drag and stretch defenses. Every now and then, he latches onto a goal. And in the case of the Euro Final, through Villa's injury, Spain played him in his favored lone striker role and he delivered.

His presence has clearly put some people off (again, understandably so, it may not be right, but it's human nature) and he's finding it hard to fully integrate into the team and its play. I stand by my belief that he offers a lot to the team but if what he's offering isn't being taken advantage of, then it only hurts the team. If that's the end result, then he should sit. That or the coach does something about it but 2 months in, I haven't seen much evidence of Ancelotti doing anything to address the issue. Granted he's between a rock, a hard place and the deep blue sea with winning, pleasing the owner and keeping the dressing room.

I love Fernando but right now it's just not working for him. A combination of factors (him, the team, the tactics, voodoo, the moon and stars not being aligned, who knows what else). His movement is good but nobody seems to understand it except Pat Nevin. His understanding with the other forwards and midfielders is non-existent at times.

I'd rather Carlo use him as a supersub. Let Drogba and Anekla/Kalou do their thing out there. Then bring Torres on with the other subs.

Yes, Torres is the new flavor of the month. Yes, Torres is expensive. Yes, Torres is not setting the world on fire.

But... they're all highly paid professionals and they can't put aside their angst, ego, hurt feelings, to try and play as a team? United may have players older than dirt, Shrek, and that putz Ferdinand, but at least they play as a team.

I noticed that Torres wore his customary long sleeve shirt in the first half and then switched to a short sleeve shirt and long sleeve undershirt in the second half. Anyone hear why he made the switch?

In the photos with the short sleeve shirt, Torres' left wrist is heavily taped. I did notice during the game he was holding it at one point, like he was stretching out an injury. Maybe he had to ditch the long sleeve jersey to accommodate the tape?

Not in my good books atm but i certainly don't want to see Torres made a scapegoat.I've always said on this forum that i will judge him from next season and i still stand by the assumption that he must be benched for Tuesday, this game is just too important to start with a striker that is yet to score for us,regardless of his price tag. That is something the media keep drumming up and a subject that i will not get drawn into.

True Mike.

Never fear he'll come good just like Sheva. No i mean Fleck...er not him ...er Furlong thats it. No I mean that Italian bloke...Casiragi....no Pizzarro.

Oh .....he'll come good anyway :smiliecap1:

I remember reading a paper when we first signed Gigi and in it he said he couldn't remember the last time he scored a goal.

Filled me with confidence straight away.

It's really easy to write Torres off now because it isn't happening for him. But when the tide turns, and it will, I wonder how fast the hymn sheets will be changed over for the new tunes to be sung. But I suppose in the meantime, the naysayers will continue to have a field day.

Scored once for us 1-1 with the bindippers if I remember rightly. :whistling:
