Great result, particularly considering those of Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool yesterday. Just confirmed what we knew, Eden Hazard is a star. Torres led the line well and was unlucky not to score. Mata played very well and interlinked with Hazard brilliantly. Mikel and Lampard looked pretty solid and improved in possession in the second half. Luiz was excellent at centre back as was Bertrand on the left flank. Oscar also with an encouraging cameo, a few flashes of quality, a sure sign of things to come.

Very good start, always nice to pick up 3 points in your first game and encouraging signs for the season.

Horrible performance but a win's a win. It will get better but while everyone's still settling in we're settling in as a team, it's imperative just to win. We killed the game in 10 minutes. No dramas, no Seattle 2-0 up winning 4-2 looking defensively hopeless. Just a routine win which was needed. Clean sheet too which will breed some confidence. Wigan away isn't easy. 1 down, 37 to go. Roll on Wednesday and Reading.

Sturridge will never be a 40 goal a season striker. Fact.

Quite obviously. The greatest strikers the league has seen in recent years; Drogba, Henry, van Nistelrooy, have between them only broken the 40 goal margin once (RvN got to 44).

Sturridge would be the best striker to grace the league, and the world in general, in decades if he regularly scores 40 a season. Which he obviously isn't; we're talking about Sturridge's potential as good, not all time great.

Very disappointed that Danny didn't get on tho. Just sends out the message saying 'you ain't part of my plans'. The last 20 minutes on for Bertrand wouldn't have hurt in the slightest. Pity.

Seriously good win, midfielders looked good but Torres did nothing to show he is going to take over the role of Drogba. He looked same as last season, was just listening to Tony Gale and fully agree with him. Torres had one good run nearing the end of the match and that was literally it. Good win but work still needs to be done IMO. Also for people who doubted inclusion of Bertrand, once again put in a brilliant shift. I still havent lost faith in him but I would of liked to see Sturridge come on his place today but he never came on. But surely as we go on and player harder games RDM must think that is a problem.

Agree! After Oscar subbed Hazard, Sturridge should sub Lampard.

Bad game but we won and kept a clean sheet, which is the most important. Our performance was a bit worrying but it's too early to draw conclusions due to the busy summer.

Luiz was very good though he needs to tone down the aggression a bit and try to win balls more cleanly.

Hazard won us this game so great start from him.

We had zero threat from the left. While Bertrand did cover and defend well, I hope we won't see him up front anymore as Wigan were allowed to solely focus on defending their left flank.
